To not shower every day

AngryGinger · 07/01/2017 11:18

To make it clear, I do have a wash every day but I don't see the need to actually shower or bathe every single morning. was talking to people at work about it, most of the women seemed to agree with me whilst the men thought it was weird that we didn't have a whose presence every single morning. Aibu to be washed but not showered every day?

Livia, phew, I'm not a total loon! I'm really not so new age, I understand we have modern lifestyles and certain things damage the environment but that we can and will do these things as part of a normal modern life.

I also know people are different and have their little idiosyncrasies, like if you really can't cope not showering every day - FINE. I just want to tear my hair out when I read a thread where if you don't so something (like wash your towels after every use of launder your bedsheets weekly - or even daily!) you're gross. You're probably not gross. Don't be wasteful just to avoid some societal delusion that you might be minging.

Natsku · 07/01/2017 20:13

Good points Epoxy

Don't understand people that wash towels after a single use - I wash them after 3 or 4 uses, they don't get smelly or nasty in that time.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/01/2017 20:14

My washing machine gets used once a week and I don't have a tumble dryer so again i think I might be forgiven for that Grin

Natsku · 07/01/2017 20:17

Damn, mine gets used nearly every day, my family just creates too much laundry. No tumble dryer though, everything gets hung up to dry.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/01/2017 20:22

Epoxy Can I just say that I haven't heard the word 'spaff' in ages - it really made me laugh Grin

EpoxyResin · 07/01/2017 20:26

Hahaha, ace, I love the word spaff :D

ChickenVindaloo2 · 07/01/2017 22:02

Merlot - good news, you don't need to scrub behind your knees (or the soles of your feet), the suds should just run down from ahem, other areas. That's the beauty of a shower as opposed to a strip wash. Pits and bits, however, need a scrub for 30 seconds each and then a rinse under the flowing water ;-)

Similarly with hair - you don't need to pile all your hair on your head, just wash the scalp and let the suds run down the lengths. (tip for stopping long hair getting tangled up when washing!)

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 07/01/2017 22:09

Pits and bits need a 30 second scrub? With soap? You need to scrub your fanjo for half a minute on a daily basis?

Where are you getting this information from? Sounds like a short cut to a galloping case of thrush to me.

gottachangethename1 · 07/01/2017 22:11

Baffles me when people don't bath or shower daily. Yes, years ago we generally washed less, but we didn't have the modern conveniences we have now. If one has time to check their mobile, iPad in the morning, then they have time to shower or bath.

AccioMerlot · 07/01/2017 22:46

No, I am well aware of stinky feet, I was just unaware of stinky knees...

Bananabread123 · 08/01/2017 00:05

In summer, every day. At other times, most days but some days use wipes to clean face/pits/groin etc.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/01/2017 00:27

Wipes? Shock Fair play to you if you are okay with that - I would feel grotty I think

CaraAspen · 08/01/2017 00:36

WIPES? Eh??????

Urgh

hollinhurst84 · 08/01/2017 01:26

It depends really on each individual? I showered this morning, I won't shower tomorrow morning as I'm going to muck a load of horses out and then ride. So I'll shower and wash hair when I'm home
Then I'll get up for work and won't shower because I've had one the night before

Armpits get scrubbed with hibiscrub daily anyway due to medical condition (usually at sink as its easier to see in mirror) , soap doesn't go near my lower bits, water only

thetis · 08/01/2017 16:42

My hair's a poker traitor too!

exaltedwombat · 08/01/2017 16:51

A little muskiness can be very sexy. Napoleon is said to have sent a message ahead to Josephine 'Back in three days. Don't wash'.
What IS horrible is muskiness plus perfume. Train-loads of office workers at the end of the day, please note. If you can't wash, please don't just spray more smells on top.

Craigie · 08/01/2017 17:02

As long as you don't smell, who cares. Makes my flesh crawl if I go longer than 24 hours between showers, and I don't know anybody who doesn't shower every morning, but if you're happy....

bitteroulbag · 08/01/2017 17:12

OMG first world entitlement. State of the planet would dictate face, oxters, fanny, feet every day. Shower once a week at pool. Clothes washed at 30. Ultra-reliable sources assure me this more than sufficient from an olfactory perspective.

Shona52 · 08/01/2017 17:15

I bath every night but that's more to relax and chill out rather then to wash. UANBU it's a personal choice

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/01/2017 17:42

bitter That's fine if you don't think you smell. Btw what are 'ultra reliable sources'?

And first world entitlement? Really? Nobody is suggesting having 15 baths a day, just once so people don't offend those around them

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/01/2017 17:43

And I presume you don't have children? Because I believe that isn't a very environmentally good thing to do. And do you have a car? Fly? Have electric in your house?

Angelil · 08/01/2017 17:46

I suppose it depends how much you sweat. I have hyperhydrosis and particularly sweat a lot at night so could not physically get away with not showering every day. I also have a long commute via public transport, and walk around a lot at work too, which doesn't help.
However, I don't always use deodorant every day, as I use Driclor and when you use that you don't have to :p

StarlingMurderation · 08/01/2017 17:51

I shower every day. I have to wash my hair every day anyway, so it would be more more of a faff to do a basin wash plus wash my hair, than just jump in the shower and do it all together.

bitteroulbag · 08/01/2017 17:58

Every small gesture counts. Such ludicrous self-serving arguments. And as reliable as reliable can be.

cheval · 08/01/2017 18:12

I have to smear myself with moisturiser after every shower otherwise skin gets as itchy as hell, particularly in winter with central heating. So I'm happy to skip all of that faff and just have a posh wash. In summer, it's different when you get sweaty, then it's nice to ablute in the shower daily. Also don't have to moisturise so much then. Cold weather is hell.
