Just that, really? For how many people and does that include cleaning stuff/toiletries? Just stuff bought in supermarkets/online/small shops etc not including any meals out/coffees etc. We seem to spend a lot and I'm beginning to think IABU about the amount... Interested to hear what everyone roughly spends.

Interesting. We are a family of 4, and both kids are at school/nursery full time (school hours). We spend approx. £125-150 a week, depending, including toiletries and cleaning stuff, like someone said we don't need toiletries and cleaning stuff each week, obviously.

I buy whatever Shampoo/shower gel/toothpaste is on offer, there's little or no booze in there as I rarely drink, so sometimes just a bit of beer for DH. We almost never throw any food away though and I plan the meals and food shop religiously!

Between £50 and £70 a week at Lidl with maybe one or two tops, usually about £5 each, although if we've spent £70 in Lidl there's no need to top up. There's 4 of us, 2 adults (one with a special diet), DS who's currently eating us out of house and home and DD.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 06/01/2017 18:25

Oh that doesn't include school dinners but does include toiletries and cleaning products.

Stiddleficks · 06/01/2017 18:26

£40-£60 a week in Aldi, for 2 adults, a 6 yr old and 1yr old.

NapQueen · 06/01/2017 18:26

Where do you shop OP?

Aldi or lidl and that's probably as low as you are going to be able to go, unless you become veggie.

Sainsbos/ocado etc the you could deffo cut it down.

formerbabe · 06/01/2017 18:28

Family of 4. I used to spend £200 a week Shock. I've got it down to about £50/60 by shopping in lidl, planning our meals and not wasting anything.

Dionysuss · 06/01/2017 18:31

£60 a week for two adults and three dc. Includes toiletries, cleaning stuff and lunches for dh and 2x dc.

One top up midweek. Usually only bagged salad for the tortoise!

LobsterQuadrille · 06/01/2017 18:31

£40 a week including everything - cleaning, shampoo, toothbrushes, toiletries. One adult and one 19 year old (only during Uni holidays). And a cat but she costs about 50p a week.

Fivetoomany · 06/01/2017 18:32

Family of 7 all dc under 10 though.
I budget £100 a week but always go over and usually comes in around £125-£150 at Morrisons/Tesco.
I'm going to Aldi on Sunday to see if that will make a difference.

early30smum · 06/01/2017 18:33

Waitrose/Ocado mainly but go to Asda maybe once a month for cleaning stuff/some branded stuff unless on offer at waitrose or ocado. Sometimes co op for top ups but that seems v expensive.

JennyOnAPlate · 06/01/2017 18:35

£120ish on a main shop plus probably a £30 top up shoo. 2 adults and 2 dc.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 06/01/2017 18:36

We are about 120.00-130.00 per week for a family of 4 including toiletries, cleaning products and alcohol. I tend to buy the same stuff and its crept up and up over the last year.

NapQueen · 06/01/2017 18:37

Maybe do an experiment and swap to Aldi or lidl for the week and see how you fair?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 06/01/2017 18:37

Dionysus that's so low, where do you shop? Do you buy alcohol?

Rixera · 06/01/2017 18:39

£60 a month for family of 3. Includes everything.

Blankscreen · 06/01/2017 18:40

£150 approx a week including toiletries and cleaning products. That's for 4 of us ds is at school, dh buys lunch at work.and we eat out at least once at thre weekend. I'm clearly going wrong somewhere.

Toomanywheeliebinsagain · 06/01/2017 18:41

2 adults, 2 children both at school, nursery. Probably spent £130-140 easily with Sainsburys and ocado. Probably one top up as well (10-15)!My DH is stopping work for a bit on a career break and so we are now shopping at Lidl. Saving nearly 60 pounds a week plus this includes our lunches. We are eating better than ever

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 06/01/2017 18:45

nap people on this thread seem to be spending the same at aldi and lidl as people shopping at waitrose...

fj3568 · 06/01/2017 18:45

Around £60 for 2 adults, a teenager and small dog. Buy meat at Costco and freeze every 2 months. Also buy toiletries soft drink, wine and beer there. Spend around £35 at the weekend with 2x £5-8 top ups in Sainsbury, tesco I or lidl. Don't buy sweets or cookies or many snacks. Cook everything from scratch and eat out mostly at the weekends.

MycatsaPirate · 06/01/2017 18:45

I do a lot of bulk buying of things on Amazon and get them delivered every 2 to 3 months to save me carrying them - so toilet rolls are every two months, cat food monthly, cat biscuits three monthly. Then I do an Amazon Pantry shop every other month and buy things like washing powder, coffee and hot chocolate, rice (huge, huge bag), squash and anything else we need that's non perishable.

Then weekly I spend about £40 to £50 in the shops on actual food. We are three adults, one child and four cats.

I actually don't know how much it works out at weekly but probably about £100 at least.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 06/01/2017 18:46

I wonder as well - when people spend X on shopping then swop and save, are you buying similar amounts OR I wonder is it because your really taking note of what you buy and therefore buy less anyway?

isseywithcats · 06/01/2017 18:46

£120 a fortnight do a big shop between aldi and iceland for everything including cleaning gear and cat food for three cats two people and then in between just bread and milk maybe £3 a week

Cheby · 06/01/2017 18:52

Waitrose/Ocado mainly

Therein lies your problem. Grin

I don't think £125-150 is that bad for a family of 4 though.

We are a family of 3 plus 3 cats (one of which still has litter as well) and we spend about £80-100 a week maybe.

SleightOfMind · 06/01/2017 18:53

Littlepeas Thank fuck for that. Was going to post £200ish but was too ashamed after I saw yours!
Family of 6 & two large (spoilt) dogs.

Playdoughinthecarpet · 06/01/2017 18:55

Up to £85 a week on tesco delivery including cleaning stuff, nappies etc and a takeaway for about £15. Family of 4. Have tried to get cheaper stuff but like nice meat, fruit and veg so stick to a budget and cut out the 'treats' if it goes over.
