Just that, really? For how many people and does that include cleaning stuff/toiletries? Just stuff bought in supermarkets/online/small shops etc not including any meals out/coffees etc. We seem to spend a lot and I'm beginning to think IABU about the amount... Interested to hear what everyone roughly spends.

2 adults and a baby and maybe £300 a month? Don't really keep track if I'm honest.

SharkSkinThing · 06/01/2017 17:37

Around £70 for two adults and a six y/o. I aim to stay under £300 a month.

I meal plan and batch cook and we take left overs for lunch the next day.

I do a weekly click and collect shop which helps stop me impulse buying in store. We shop at Sainsbury's and I use my local Iceland for top up bits as they are brilliant for cheaper milk and bread.

Pinkheart5915 · 06/01/2017 17:37

£180 This week it's normally between 140-180 That includes;

Nappies/wipes for 2 dc
Formula for 1 dc ( she only has Breast milk in the morning)
Toiletries ( obviously we don't need all toiletries every week)

Cleaning stuff ( again we don't need all cleaning stuff each week)

We buy meat from butcher ( we only have meat twice a week) & we buy an awful lot of fresh veg & fruit which pushes the shopping up

Chocolatecake12 · 06/01/2017 17:38

I spend around £65 a week for one adult, one teenager and ds and a cat!
That's about a £50 spend in Lidl and then £15 top ups for things I forget or we run out of.
BTW aren't light bulbs expensive?!! I needed them this week and was surprised at how much they were!

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 06/01/2017 17:39

£100 per week, precisely sometimes less never more. £60 for main shop then £40 top up.

Waitrose for main shop! Then shop around, all other places as needed. I buy stuff in bulk when half price so don't need to buy toothpaste, washing liquid for ages....

LiquoriceFrittata17 · 06/01/2017 17:39

We are a family of 4 (plus bump) and spend between £40-£60 pw. I meal plan and then use mysupermarket website to make sure my food shop is the cheapest I can get it. Oh and I don't buy big brands, I have label checked everything and more often than not, shop own brand products are slightly healthier as they usually (but not always) contain less salt and sugar.
It is all a bit of work but worth it for the savings :-)

£80 that is everything including the milkman bill 2 Adults and 1 dog. I use COOP so not the cheapest but we don't eat meat so that keeps it down.

JaniceBattersby · 06/01/2017 17:41

£120 per week (sometimes a bit less) on a Sainsbury's delivery for two adults and three kids. We very rarely have to top up and if we do, it's just the very odd pint of milk. That includes toiletries, nappies for one child and all cleaning products. We don't really drink and I don't try to budget really: we largely eat what we fancy although we do meal plan.

I don't like going into shops as I spend more so it's much cheaper for me to get an online delivery from Sainsbo's than to go to Aldi.

littlepeas · 06/01/2017 17:41

madhouse I thought you were being sarcastic, then I saw my typo! Unfortunately it should have said £200 a week!

Normally around £70 a week for me and 2 teenage DS. I shop at Lidl and top up at Asda or Sainsbury's. This doesn't include any wine I may buy at the weekend. I make lunches for work for myself but DS both have lunch at school/ college which is an additional £30 a week.

Chickydoo · 06/01/2017 17:46

£150 (ish) pw family of 6 & 4 cats

Violetcharlotte · 06/01/2017 17:46

This also doesn't include dog food which comes to around £50 a month

BrieAndChilli · 06/01/2017 18:03

I've noticed a real difference lately as the kids are slightly older (primary age) dreading the teen years!!
When thy were toddlers we could have 1 tin of beans between us, now that's not enough and we need to open 2. Whereas I would make a lasagne and there be enough for a second meal, there now isn't enough for us all to eat again etc!

It's about £100 a week but we do eat meat at most meals (although i would use 2 chicken breasts in a curry or risotto etc not 1 breast each, roast chicken does a roast and then something like sweet and sour or a pie (used to be able to make 3 meals out of it but kids eat a lot more during the roast than they used to!!)

Juanbablo · 06/01/2017 18:07

Family of 5 plus cat and Guinea pigs. We spend around £70 a week in Aldi.

Babyroobs · 06/01/2017 18:11

We are a family of 6 ( including 3 teenage boys), and one dog. We spend around £150 a week which I know is way to much and I am trying to get it down. My ds3 can go through a packet of branded cereal in a couple of says ( and remains super skinny). The boys eat a lot and go through orange juice/ sports drinks etc.

yummycake123 · 06/01/2017 18:13

We're 2 adults, DS (3.5) and a cat.
Weekly shop is about £50- that includes food and cleaning products/toiletries some weeks (if we need to buy laundry/cleaning/toiletries/cat food at the same time the shop might go up to £70)We shop online at Tesco.
We also get a Musclefood order every 6-8 weeks for £50. We freeze all the meat and that usually lasts us for 1.5/2 months. We don't eat meat everyday.

So we spend about £250-300 a month on groceries... I have tried to reduce it to £200 but I find it impossible...

budgiegirl · 06/01/2017 18:14

£100-£120, mostly at Aldi with a top up at Morrisons.
Includes toiletries, dog food etc, packed lunches 4 days a week etc.
We are a family of 5, two of which are ravenous teenagers.

CommunionHelp · 06/01/2017 18:15

About £180 - £200 per week including all booze, all meals for family of 5 people, cleaning stuff, baby stuff, nappies, wipes, and toiletries etc. Literally everything really. It's split into four deliveries over the week so no top ups for fresh stuff.

Lndnmummy · 06/01/2017 18:16

We spend 50-60£ a week mainly sainsburys. It includes packed lunch for ds who is refusing school lunch. We do ok but spend too much on lunch and take away coffees. I am determined to make savings here this year.

Fluffy24 · 06/01/2017 18:17

I have absolutely no idea. I feel a bit unhappy about that but I buy carefully, take advantage of offers, compare prices, buy own brands, bulk cook and freeze etc so I'm not sure I could reduce it any. DH buys too much junk food but it's not worth falling out over it so it's probably best not to know how much he spends keeping the snacks larder full!

If I had to guess I'd say probably £150/week for 2 adults and a toddler but it could be a bit more.

NapQueen · 06/01/2017 18:17

Family of four here, kids are 2 and 5. All in we probably spend 100 a week. I usually do a top up shop at 10.00 3 times, and a "big shop" at Aldi or lidl is about 60. We also buy cat litter, cat food, toiletries and cleaning stuff once a fortnight.

NapQueen · 06/01/2017 18:18

Dh and I have a whatsapp group purely for daily spending and post everything on there as we really need to establish where all our disposable income is going.

Fluffy24 · 06/01/2017 18:19

What makes it hard to calculate is that it's two of us shopping separately (DH also buys groceries because otherwise he'd not get so much junk food) and is probably several smaller shops each per week.
