Today I recieved a parcel from a nc relative who doesn't seem to have quite got the message. Every year I get a passive aggressive christmas card which I duly ignore. Now I have a box. I've been informed by another relative it's a birthday gift. Do I open it? Send it back? Confused

At first I was going to join in with the 'open the box' comments, but in all seriousness I would send it back. If the intermediary is a winged monkey, then by pushing you to open the box, then we risk becoming winged monkeys. What's worse, OP, not knowing what's in the box or risking this person getting back into your life again?

Open the box.
Tell us (with pictures)
Chuck the contents in the bin.
(Unless something with sentimental.value in which case send to intermediary relative)

Maybe it's something the person who died wanted you to have and it's just being passed on to you, the rightful owner, bloody well open it now

TheMrsD · 05/01/2017 21:49

What the knickers is EA?

TitaniasCloset · 05/01/2017 21:50

What's EA????

QueenMortifauxcado · 05/01/2017 21:50

The death doesn't change reasons for nc but does make me less inclined to send it back, I don't think it would be taken well. I'm leaning towards sending a blunt thank you and polite request not to send anything else in future. Is that a bad idea?

Open it.
Tell us what it is.
Tell intermediary that you took it to a charity shop without opening it.

Think by opening it will help decide how best to proceed, either as you said thank you but no more or to just tell relative you gave to charity shop without opening.
Basically open the box Grin

CommunionHelp · 05/01/2017 21:53

Big risk of milking it too much here, OP...

InterchangeableEmma · 05/01/2017 21:54

EA is emotionally abusive jamdonut

To my mind sending / accepting post is accepting direct communication. There seems to (maybe) be a degree of indirect manipulation contact via at least one other relative. Better to follow channels already in use than to open new ones, I think. I attach your note to the parcel and give it to your mum.

Sorry you're being put through this OP.

TheMrsD · 05/01/2017 21:54

Will set alarm for a few hours time to see what was in box.... or photo of burnt out box?

QueenMortificado · 05/01/2017 21:55

Hello second Queen Morty

Open it to relieve us of our suspense then return depending on what it is

InterchangeableEmma · 05/01/2017 21:55

mum?? sorry. meant the other relative obvs Blush

PovertyPain · 05/01/2017 21:56

EA = Emotional Abuse

Open it, only if you really want to, but for goodness sake do not, on ANY account send a note or any response. They WILL respond and before you know what has happened, they will be back in your life. You went NC for a good reason, I assume, and got on with your life. Why open the door to all that misery again. Is there part of you that wants them back in your life?

PoloZolo · 05/01/2017 21:56

Yes that's a bad idea.
Open the box then ignore

HorridHenryrule · 05/01/2017 21:57

Apart from her sending it because its your birthday is there a hidden agenda to her sending it to you?
