Today I recieved a parcel from a nc relative who doesn't seem to have quite got the message. Every year I get a passive aggressive christmas card which I duly ignore. Now I have a box. I've been informed by another relative it's a birthday gift. Do I open it? Send it back?

Why don't you put the box back outside, wait 5 mins, then open the door and pretend it's just a mystery parcel?

I would give the parcel to intermediary relative & say postman left it when you weren't in so you couldn't refuse to accept it. You are not being out of pocket to return unwanted gift by post so they can collect it or relative can pass it on along with all the gossip

No I sent the photo to intermediary. Emma talks a lot of sense - I was just reminded ncrs parent recently died which might be a motivation for contact appearing now. I don't know if that makes it better or worse

I'm also gagging to know what is inside . However if the NC is EA then I would assume its designed to make you open it and would think it better to send it back unopened via the intermediary.

It's human nature to feel sympathy for someone who has recently lost a parent. Does the death materially change your reasons for wanting nc though? Human sympathy is a known weakness.

NC already has you, other relative and 1/2 of MN dancing to their tune. I don't believe you wish to allow that.
