AIBU to present you with a mystery box and not open it?

Today I recieved a parcel from a nc relative who doesn't seem to have quite got the message. Every year I get a passive aggressive christmas card which I duly ignore. Now I have a box. I've been informed by another relative it's a birthday gift. Do I open it? Send it back? Confused

She could Tudor but that'd be kind of like saying she might have kept it if it were something she'd wanted to keep. It would also appear to confirm that she will open (ergo be open to) postal communications.

Are you sure you still have gerbils, OP? I predict they're now in the box...

Do you also have a locked Victorian safe in your cellar?

That's true Emma. We xposted and having read your post, I can see what you are saying.
I change my mind. Just give it to the intermediary unopened.

Ah now, you can ignore the collective nosiness of MN, but if the cat wants the parcel open you'd better shape up & obey your feline overlord...

Of course, you can always open it, put a note in to tell them to feck off & leave you alone forever, reseal, readdress, then drop off at the post office. Oh dear, you forgot to put any stamps on/put a 1p stamp on? Well if they want it they'll have to pay for it. Plus a big fat handling fee on top. Pity that. Think how much worse the torment will be for them, because they'll be bound to suspect it's the parcel they sent you. But not simply returned, so what message might you have included in it? Should they pay out for it? Your turn to mess with them. I appreciate it would be be going against being NC - but it must be a tiny bit tempting to be the one playing with post...

Was really hopeful by the time I got to the end of the thread the box would be open...I can't real life until I know!

Umm...
Does the other relative who you think will report back KNOW that you received it?
As in, even though the NC party may have told them they had sent; did you tell/show the middleman that it was here?
It's just that you said the postie left it in your safe place, so how do either of them know it has been delivered?

I'm betting OP's already opened the box that she wrapped up herself and already knows whats inside, but want to build up tension.

Reason for nc is ea. Ncr has form for trying to reinstate contact when someone else is in the bad books. Shortly after nc I apparently didn't exist according to ncr Hmm but still got passive aggressive christmas cards so I presume they got bored of that one.

I would hand it unopened to intermediary relative. You really don't want to get caught up in the ea again.

FFS Mortifauxcado The sender is EA, ignores boundaries and has form? So, this is about control and manipulation not only of you but also of others through you?

You seem to be serious about NC, if you really are you need to be seen not to accept this. I'd hand it over to 'other relative' NC's flying monkey sharpish. The card thing is trickier IMO.
