To never let my children eat roast chicken skin

So that I get it all to myself to scoff in the kitchen whilst carving the chicken? Crispy, juicy, amazing stuff. Not sure the kids even realise the chicken comes with a skin.......

DD knows M&S puddings and cakes exist, but she never gets to eat any. I'm probably doing her a favour by eating them all.

mummyneedssupport · 05/01/2017 18:18

I've only just roasted a chicken this afternoon for that purpose. I skinned the whole thing once it was crispy (oil, chicken stock cube, s+p rub) and ate it all. On my own. All to myself. Mwah-ha-ha-haaaaa Grin

BubbleFairy · 05/01/2017 18:36

genzymo I'll make sure the children are raised with the understanding that, just like you can get hairless cats, you can get skinless chickens.

Ha ha ha, brilliant!

I just had the leftovers for tea. And found a couple of wings with skin..... Scoffed.

When I can throw away all the other planned meals and buy more chicken??

OP, you are my food soulmate!
Fortunately my DP only likes skinless breast meat, so I get first choice of all the best bits like the skin and oysters. I do give a bit of skin to the DC, but only to educate them in the ways of right thinking about chicken. Wink

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 05/01/2017 18:47

dh and I hid in the utility room to test the crackling from the pork on christmas day.

and the chicken skin bits mentioned upthread n fancy NYC restaurants are technically the same as @porkyscratchings grandmothers recipe....also known as GRIBENES a traditional jewish recipe

and never delve deeply into the Mrs Doubtfire joke regarding buying gribenes from a mohel .

Purplealienpuke · 05/01/2017 18:48

Having just scoffed my (rather large) share of chicken skin you are definitely in the right! Cooks perks! I wholeheartedly agree about crackling too! (Though thankfully mine is 100 times nicer than carvery offerings 😊)

Pixiebutterfly83 · 05/01/2017 18:51

Nope not at all, all chicken skin and pork crackling is mine mwahahahaha

SherbrookeFosterer · 05/01/2017 18:53

Haha! Tempting as it is to scoff the lot, you should encourage your children to eat chicken skin, and for that matter pork crackling, as both are good natural and delicious sources of serotonin, unless you want them scoffing Citalopram when they get older!

RubbishMantra · 05/01/2017 19:03

But but... the parsons nose is the chicken's bum! Or the correct term, cloaca.

Agree skin most delicious though, but KFC skin is all horrible and flabby, hidden under the crispy coating.

Someone asked how to do the crispy skin shards - I think you season them up then put them between 2 baking trays (the flat ones) with something heavy on top, then pop in the oven. Never had chicken skin that way, but duck skin shards truly are food of the Gods.

Lweji · 05/01/2017 19:07

No. The cloaca is the exit, which is located below.

Parson's nose is where the chicken tail feathers are fixed. It is quite tasty when crisp.

Clarabellb · 05/01/2017 19:29

This thread is giving me the dry boke. Eating skin is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard Shock

BubbleFairy · 05/01/2017 19:43

If it weren't edible it wouldnt be so nice.......

OP posts:
zukiecat · 05/01/2017 19:43

Me too Clarabellb

I had better not think of this thread next time I have roast chicken, my nice white skinless, black bits free breast fillets, or it really will put me off

BubbleFairy · 05/01/2017 19:47

Are they not dry and dull zukie?

I admit I'm not a breast lover. Can you tell?

OP posts:
Booboo66 · 05/01/2017 19:47

I hate all skin and fat... All gets placed on my 6 year old DD's plate so no waste

MrsWeasley · 05/01/2017 19:48

Chefs privilege 😊

Soubriquet · 05/01/2017 19:49

You must create a lot of waste zukie if you only like the white breast meat

FurryLittleTwerp · 05/01/2017 20:04

I don't like the breast meat much - tolerable in a stir-fry but otherwise dark meat all the way Grin

NotCitrus · 05/01/2017 20:05

When I was growing up my dad and I fought over the tasty skin-laden legs and wings (obviously compromising on one each), and my mum oddly liked the breast meat.

MrNC likes the breast meat best too, though at least I buy MN-approved huge slow-reared chickens so even the breast tastes of something. And I get all the skin to myself! (another reason why I love him... Smile ) After the roast meal I dissect all the meat off and do stir fries which include huge bits of skin (so he can dump them on my plate).

MOISTGUSSET · 05/01/2017 20:09

Waitrose sell skinless and boneless chicken thighs which are great when you need some meat for a stir fry. Much tastier than breast

Oysterbabe · 05/01/2017 20:11

You know asda sell those too. Grin

MOISTGUSSET · 05/01/2017 20:13

No Asda near me so I have to make do with Waitrose 😄

Oblomov16 · 05/01/2017 20:16

I don't like it. Ds1 loves it. Works well.
