To never let my children eat roast chicken skin

So that I get it all to myself to scoff in the kitchen whilst carving the chicken? Crispy, juicy, amazing stuff. Not sure the kids even realise the chicken comes with a skin.......

One of mine is a muck savage. He eats chicken skin, and cartilige and bone! I think he'd eat me if he was hungry enough....

WorraLiberty · 04/01/2017 23:52

Niggit, I'm really lucky my DH doesn't like any sort of skin or fat and we have a tiny kitchen, so I ban the teenagers from it while I'm dishing up Wink

gettingbythistime · 05/01/2017 00:14

i do the same OP. bloody love the stuff despite having raised cholesterol

zukiecat · 05/01/2017 00:15

I don't know anyone in RL that eats the chicken skin

I only buy skinless breast fillets as I'm really funny about chicken, I can't stand bones or any black or brown bits, it has to be white meat only for me

I feel sick just thinking about the skin, in the days where I used to buy whole chickens, before I realised how much of them I was throwing away, even my cats wouldn't touch the skin

MitzyLeFrouf · 05/01/2017 00:21

'I don't know anyone in RL that eats the chicken'

😂

I bet if you did a quick poll you'd soon discover that you are actually acquainted with lots of skin scoffers!

zukiecat · 05/01/2017 01:12

Mitzy

The topic has come up in a few conversations, and the consensus is that no-one likes the skin!

It's the work of the devil as far as me, my friends and work colleagues are concerned!

Just horrible evil stuff!

LockedOutOfMN · 05/01/2017 01:16

BubbleFairy Are you my mum?

I never knew chickens had skin on when they were cooked until I was old enough to buy and cook one myself (at university). However, I had eaten MANY a chicken in childhood. My mum does indeed scoff all the skin!

However, from 20 years of not eating the stuff I've never developed a taste for it and so, because it's not particularly healthy, I don't actually mind not eating it!

She did the same thing with marzipan...denied it to us and by the time I got to taste it at someone else's house my tastebuds wouldn't accept it.

And she told me Coke was gross. And I believed her. And refused to try it until I was an adult at which point I agreed it was gross (she doesn't think it's gross but was brainwashing me to keep down the costs of dentists' bills).

LockedOutOfMN · 05/01/2017 01:17

Forgot to add - my best friend is also a skin scoffer. I think she may have been attracted to become my friend because I always leave my skin for her to eat.

KeyserSophie · 05/01/2017 01:22

I recently had chicken skin crisps at a winery in Australia, served with this delicious chili and broad bean dip. Most delicious thing ever.

Skin great but must be crispy, Soggy skin=gross.

The white meat preference is a western thing. In HK, the locals would always ask for brown meat. I told them in Uk curry houses there's a supplement for white meat. They were like wtf??

Grindelwaldswand · 05/01/2017 01:43

I wish chicken skin was sold in packs by itself its so unhealthy but god its sooo damn good !! How can you not love it

Cantthinkofanynewnames · 05/01/2017 01:44

@Grindelwaldswand you can get chicken skin from your local butcher and roast it up separately

Grindelwaldswand · 05/01/2017 01:52

Seriously ?? They will actually give you chicken skin on its own !! Sweet Jesus I need to try this asap Shock

Clandestino · 05/01/2017 06:21

*Clandestino..... there is never a neck or "neck bit "on a chicken

There is crispy bit... ehm around the other end though wink*

Not true. Next time, when your chicken is roasted, try the other area. They normally chop off the neck which is a pity but the skin around the cavity is ever so yummy.

BubbleFairy · 05/01/2017 06:30

Foggymorn

I've just been to our local Wing Yip (oriental supermarket in the U.K.), they have huge bags of frozen chicken feet for about a fiver. I didn't buy any but I'm regretting it now.

MyBreadIsEggy · 05/01/2017 11:24

I do it too Blush
It's the only bit of the chicken my DH won't eat Grin yay for me! Grin
He eats literally everything else though Hmm he comes from a Thai family, and his mum will not waste anything. They both sit and crack the bones so they can suck the marrow out Confused its grim!

LockedOutOfMN · 05/01/2017 12:05

Bubble Mine too!

What do you do with the juices that come off the roast chicken?

FishinthePerculator · 05/01/2017 15:32

It's because of this thread that I've announced to DH that we are now having roast chicken this weekend instead of the chilli he'd been craving. I can't wait! Chicken skin, oysters and the first roast potato - ultimate cook's perks!

I still remember (sad, I know), tasting chicken skin for the first time. We had those skinless chickens at home but I was at my grandparents' house aged 10ish when grandma took a chicken out of the oven and offered me the skin. I was both disgusted and intrigued but I tried it and have never looked back! Mum was quite upset when I told her about the delicious chicken skin that grandma and I had peeled and scoffed between us. Turns out she and my dad would normally eat it between them and were not keen on sharing. She did dress it up and being bad for my health though.

When I moved in with DH, I tried to do the nice thing and ensure he had a good helping of skin when serving roast chicken (after quietly scoffing the parson's nose and oysters myself, out of sight ). He dumped it all on the side of his plate and then scraped into the bin! No more chances; it has been all mine ever since.

BubbleFairy · 05/01/2017 15:43

mrskoala that is the food of the gods. My chicken noodle salad was nothing compared to your lunch.

OP posts:
MrsKoala · 05/01/2017 15:46

I didn't have just that. I had a Kit Kat too.

Badcat666 · 05/01/2017 15:51

I have 2 chickens sitting in my fridge... 2!!!!

One will be roasted at weekend... the other I'm going to cut up and bung in the freezer. Normally I leave the skin on but am pondering skinning the thing so I can just cook the skin and snaffle it all up.

Would that be wrong??
