To never let my children eat roast chicken skin

So that I get it all to myself to scoff in the kitchen whilst carving the chicken? Crispy, juicy, amazing stuff. Not sure the kids even realise the chicken comes with a skin.......

I actually drink the juices sometimes with a tablespoon Grin but then i use the rest for gravy before DP catches me being disgusting again

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/01/2017 16:27

I cooked a goose for Christmas dinner and ate all of the skin myself.
I'm not even sorry, it was delicious.

Soubriquet · 05/01/2017 16:28

Oh Grindel

That's just gross... any respect we had as chicken skin eaters has just dissapeared...

MrsKoala · 05/01/2017 16:38

Fil eats no skin or trace of fat (neither do my parents). When I used to do a roast chicken for us I would serve his breast with the skin on and he would look at it disgusted and scrape it off. So now he gets pasty bland looking white chicken breast which looks so plaid and horrible- but he seems to like it.

He is a pain to cook for because I have to buy really expensive lean s that take effort to cook rather than my usual cheap fatty slow cooked cuts.

MackerelOfFact · 05/01/2017 16:40

Bone Daddies ramen chain does 'cock scratchings' which are chicken skin.

Damn you all. I am going to have to scrap tonight's planned falafel dinner and roast up some crispy cajun-seasoned chicken thighs instead.

ozboomoo · 05/01/2017 16:50

God no!!!! I am a pick off and put straight in the bin along with the crackling and any other fat or skin from an animal!!!

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 05/01/2017 16:56

You bin the chicken skin?!?!

But that's where all the flavour is!

A kindred spirit ozbomoo!Smile

I also cannot bear any fat or skin or other gross disgusting things,

😱 to drinking the juice from a teaspoon

BubbleFairy · 05/01/2017 17:16

badcat it depends with the skin - wouldn't it be awful to get the frozen out and realise there was no skin goodness to be had. Although current skin consumption could double. It's a hard choice.

I'm a weird one who also likes offal. Liver, kidney, heart.... I'm disgusting for sure.

😂 I was all ready for a rant on how the skin was the best bit and it would be fine to give them! YANBU at all, in fact in going to take a leaf from your book... You can buy skinless chickens you say, will definitely be using that line with my two minis!

Craigie · 05/01/2017 17:38

YES!! Cruel mother, that's my kids favourite bit.

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 05/01/2017 17:43

Ds2 is mad for chicken skin so I kindly let him have the lot don't like it. I do however go and hide in the garage to eat a whole pig worth of crackling when we have pork Blush

Loreleigh · 05/01/2017 17:44

I've always thought that cook's perks like scoffing the roast chicken skin, pork crackling etc were a done deal - unless someone wanders in the kitchen when I'm basting or carving, and specifically asks for some, it's all mine. My better half does like both, but has bad teeth so often passes on the crackling - that I make sure is extra crispy ;) If you cook you get to select what you want as far as I'm concerned.

SooBee61 · 05/01/2017 17:46

Chicken skin - ugh. Horrible and full of fat!

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 05/01/2017 17:50

Nothing wrong with fat.

Genzymoo · 05/01/2017 17:50

I am always worried about giving people food poisoning when i cook, so I think its important to try a bit of the skin. And one of the chicken oysters. And the super crispy bits from t he bottom of the roast potato tray. And a spoonful of stuffing. I think get to look health conscious when i can only manage a small plate for dinner.

Very sadly, DP doesn't like chicken skin. Or pork crackling. Or the knobbly bits on the end of the KFC pieces that are all crispy coating and no chicken, and i currently have no other competition so get to snaffle the lot. Thanks for the warning though - I'll make sure the children are raised with the understanding that, just like you can get hairless cats, you can get skinless chickens.

Dragonbait · 05/01/2017 17:53

YANBU. I am gutted because both my kids - including the fussiest eater in the whole world - like chicken skin. It's know supposed to go 3 ways 😭

riceuten · 05/01/2017 17:55

I think the Chinese do it as a separate dish - deep fried-' in some restaurants.

HappyFlappy · 05/01/2017 17:58

It's the only bit of the chicken I want!

You ANBU.

Chicken skin is not a gift. It must be earned . . . .

Confusednotcom · 05/01/2017 17:59

I have a friend who deep fries it - after it's been roasted. Never tried. It's probably stronger than crack cocaine.

5000candlesinthewind · 05/01/2017 18:00

Yanbu chicken skin is one of my favourite things! I do an amazing mix of seasoning and butter, it makes the skin so crispy and delicious. I have to hide in the utility to scoff it all

HappyFlappy · 05/01/2017 18:00

Bone Daddies ramen chain does 'cock scratchings'

I'm sorry Mackeral, but I couldn't eat anything called "cock scratchings", no matter how delicious.

Touchmybum · 05/01/2017 18:02

Chicken skin is disgusting, ohhh so gross! And KFC, the very thought makes me want to barf!

I hate even touching raw chicken and I don't like the darker greasy meat, so I only buy chicken breasts.

I've nearly gone off my dinner now. Nearly...

angelfacecuti75 · 05/01/2017 18:05

This made me smile :)
