To never let my children eat roast chicken skin

So that I get it all to myself to scoff in the kitchen whilst carving the chicken? Crispy, juicy, amazing stuff. Not sure the kids even realise the chicken comes with a skin.......

Aww I can't afford NYC Sad

BubbleFairy · 04/01/2017 20:53

Alice I'm in my thirties and often IDd and mistaken for mid twenties. Despite two kids. So I am putting it down to the collagen in the chicken skin. Go me.

YANBU the skin is the best bit by far. And monounsaturated, so guilt free.

Can't they breed chickens with more skin and thighs, and no dry tasteless breast?

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 04/01/2017 20:54

The crispy skin, the oysters and the wings are all mine.

The DTS eat the rest.

They do trays of crackling to roast in Morrisons. My 2 had no turkey but cracking, pigs in blankets and skin. Don't know where they get it from ...

BubbleFairy · 04/01/2017 20:55

Brassica - chicken skin popcorn??? I demand a link!!!

After a decade more or less on Mumsnet, I finally feel I have found my people. God love the chicken skin.

MERLY - they do trays of crackling to roast?? How have I never seen this in Morrison's?! In chilled, or frozen - where where where?!

Soubriquet · 04/01/2017 20:58

Ok what are the oysters?

Everyone you mention oysters I keep thinking rocky mountain oysters and I KNOW it can't be that

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 04/01/2017 20:59

DP hates it so I get it all. DD doesn't even get a look in Grin she can have as much meat as she wants but the skin is mine!

mommybunny · 04/01/2017 21:00

Ecumenical you can get 10 articles a month from the New York Times for free. Go on and start to use this month's allowance on chicken skin - can't think of a better use of it...

HandsomeDevil · 04/01/2017 21:02

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter a restaurant near me used to serve Rooster Scratchings i.e. a big bowl of perfectly seasoned crispy chicken skin scraps.

I nearly cried when they changed the menu and stopped serving them.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/01/2017 21:04

mommybunny DH thinks I'm weird enough even though he's the weird chicken skin hater Grin

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/01/2017 21:06

HandsomeDevil I bet it was because the chef couldn't take sharing his chicken skin anymore, not through lack of anyone ordering it.

BubbleFairy · 04/01/2017 21:09

estelle I find the breast dull too. I'm one who sniggers at the KFC notice saying one piece of breast per bucket, and offers to swap mine for some better skinned piece

Greenleave · 04/01/2017 21:10

My husband needs to lower his cholesterol and the kids were told that skin is bad for their health so I had to sacrifice and eat the skin too.

Soubriquet · 04/01/2017 21:12

I always want drumsticks at KFC

My mum always wanted the breast. But I found the breast really dry

AliceInUnderpants · 04/01/2017 21:13

I usually do a chicken in the slow cooker, so the skin doesn't tempt me as it doesn't crisp up the same way.
I feed it to the dog instead, and sometimes the cat gets a bit that isn't stolen from her. They love it.

glitterazi · 04/01/2017 21:13

Ugh. Love chicken, but the skin is horrible! Too fatty and greasy tasting for me.

Blacksox · 04/01/2017 21:14

Blee! All skin goes in the bin here or the dog's bowl.

RubyWinterstorm · 04/01/2017 21:15

chicken skin is only nice when crispy!

flabby and placid it's awful.

That's why I can't eat KFC....

BubbleFairy · 04/01/2017 21:18

Our KFC is crispy and salty. Maybe it's because the fryers are three hundred years old and they over cook it, but by god the skin is amazing.

Slow cooker skin is eugh. Had to dump the fat from the slow cooked gammon at Christmas - though I have in the past put it on tin foil in the oven on its own!

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 04/01/2017 21:19

Peeling the hot crispy skin off a chicken fresh out of the oven and scoffing it before anyone else gets a look in is a chef's perk. I've never asked DH whether he likes the skin, I'm afraid of the answer.

hollinhurst84 · 04/01/2017 21:19

MERLY COME BACK NOW
And tell me about the trays of crackling. I have a morrisons 3 miles away...

Cantthinkofanynewnames · 04/01/2017 21:20

The Nigella recipe for chicken skin crackling in Simply Nigella is life changing..

BubbleFairy · 04/01/2017 21:22
