To think DD is not entirely to blame for this?

I got up with DD 14 months this morning and whilst sat on my knee she knocked over an almost full cup of coffee left there by DH the day before, (definitely was him as noone else drinks it.) It went over DH's mac which is looking broken. We won't be able to afford to replace it anytime soon.
He is understandably devastated and is blaming the baby. Not himself at all for the two cold cups of coffee left around.
AIBU to say he is partly to blame for leaving full cups around?

He is fully to blame and also incredibly lucky your dd didn't knock over a hot drink.

ghostspirit · 02/01/2017 10:29

A hot drink should not be within baby reach. And a baby can't be one oz to blame.

greenfolder · 02/01/2017 10:29

He is not blaming the baby though really is he? He is blaming you for not scouring the environment and cleaning up his mess.
Does your insurance really not cover accidental damage?

luckylucky24 · 02/01/2017 10:29

Mac was on table next to the full cup. Baby sat on my knee at the table and knocked over the cup.

He has know gone out.

Mostly his fault for leaving the cup near his computer, partly yours for not noticing it and moving it beyond reach of your DD.

rollonthesummer · 02/01/2017 10:30

What an arse. Maybe he should tidy up after himself!!

Toadinthehole · 02/01/2017 10:30

Who left the mac there?

HappyFlappy · 02/01/2017 10:30

DD is quite destructive by nature and grabs, knocks, and throws most stuff she can get to.

Of course she does - she's a baby!

There shouldn't be cuts left where she can reach them. What if the next one is full of HOT liquid, and goes all over her?

luckylucky24 · 02/01/2017 10:30

The drink wasn't hot ghost. It was there from yesterday as he couldn't be arsed to walk the 8 paces to the sink. In fact he could reach the kitchen workshop from where he sits at the table.

BreconBeBuggered · 02/01/2017 10:30

Not entirely to blame? WTAF? Are you taking the piss? 'Destructive' is what babies often do when they're exploring the world around them. Can't believe an adult would leave a cup of (formerly) hot drink lying around where it can be swiped at by a baby.

Merrylegs · 02/01/2017 10:31

Yeah he should totally make her buy him a new one.
I mean, really.
Poor baby.

luckylucky24 · 02/01/2017 10:32

He leaves it there constantly toad. It only moves from that spot when he eats and then he puts it back after dinner.

The baby isn't in any way, shape or form even slightly to blame. I'm really struggling to see how anyone could think they were. His Mac, his coffee, his not putting it all away, his fault 100%

Babies grab stuff, that's what they do. Surely he knows that so even more reason to put things away. He's taking out his guilt/shame about knowing it was his fault on a 24 month old baby.

VladmirsPoutine · 02/01/2017 10:32

It's an annoying accident but blaming a 14month old for knocking something over is ridiculous. That's pretty much what they do - anything in the vicinity of a toddler is fair game in their eyes.

hellsbells99 · 02/01/2017 10:32

Clean as much liquid off the MacBook as you can. Do not switch it on. Put it in a radiator to start drying it. Phone round quickly to see if any iPhone repair places are open. They may be able to dry it out using isopropyl alcohol.

HappyFlappy · 02/01/2017 10:32

Rufus I thought the same at first - old age is a bugger!

Longdistance · 02/01/2017 10:32

Your dp is a complete dick. A lazy one at that. Blames a baby for knocking HIS cold coffee on his expensive laptop which isn't insured.

Maybe blame the baby for not insuring the contents of the property.

I just could help shouting at an idiot like your dp and telling him he's to blame.

ThePinkOcelot · 02/01/2017 10:32

Definitely his fault.

GlitterGlue · 02/01/2017 10:33

Has he tried doing this? m.wikihow.com/Save-a-Laptop-from-Liquid-Damage

Marmalade85 · 02/01/2017 10:33

Wtf? It's an adults job to make sure a baby can't reach things. Has he stopped talking to the baby now? I would curb this behaviour as it will be very damaging to a child to get the silent treatment from a parent.

hotdiggedy · 02/01/2017 10:34

This is exactly why I get cross with my children when they leave cups lying around - an accident Waitrose happen!

hotdiggedy · 02/01/2017 10:34

Waiting to , not Waitrose!

Ellisandra · 02/01/2017 10:34

The baby isn't to blame at all.

I'd understand more if he was blaming you! If my MacBook was ruined by a wriggly baby near a cold cup of coffee, I would partly blame you for not looking around as you sat down (sorry if you don't want to hear that, but that's how I'd feel) then I'd calm down and think it was 50/50 my fault vs just one of those shitty things.

Do you think he'll start clearing up his cups now?

harderandharder2breathe · 02/01/2017 10:35

DD is a baby being a baby.

DH shouldn't have left it lying around, you could've noticed it and put it out of her reach

But it's an accident, they just happen

luckylucky24 · 02/01/2017 10:37

It could be partly my fault but I couldn't actually see the cup as it was behind my open laptop. DD was sat facing me so could see it from her angle.
I knew that none of the cups were hot as DH was still in bed when it happened and I don't drink hot drinks. I also cannot remember the last time he left a coffee undrank to think to check any of the cups left lying around.
