having 2 couples round for dinner tonight. this was arranged about 3 weeks ago.

just had text message from Mrs W

"hi lists just to let you know I decided to turn vegeterian just before Christmas.. so no meat, fish, gelatine , meat fat etc. Thanks."

AIBU to serve jersey a tin of macaroni cheese while everyone else enjoys starter of smoked salmon followed by roast lamb and all the trimmings?

kali I get the same reactions when I tell people I don't consume caffeine.

Polkadot1974 · 01/01/2017 19:28

I don't eat meat. Haven't for 25 years but do eat some fish - this is a compromise with meat eating husband who doesn't want to eat veggie every day. I don't call myself a vegetarian because I'm not. But I have friends who don't eat any meat or fish but wear leather or have leather bags
The point about doing something is so true. If the world reduced its meat consumption it would be a good thing according to radio 4 (vague on facts here sorry but it's also cheaper!)
I would never expect someone to cater for me at short notice though and back to the original text, it seems to have almost been a challenge "what do you think about that then" type statement. I hope it went well and I think you were right to try and accommodate

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/01/2017 21:45

Thanks kali. I would love to be able to eat whatever was put in front of me and not have to worry about how I'll be feeling afterwards but sadly my digestive system doesn't work like that! I do make sure I give plenty of notice though and would always be happy to take my own food or, if that was a problem, not go somewhere.

Do we have any update ?

CauliflowerSqueeze · 02/01/2017 00:33

Presumably the OP heated up the nut roast she bought her and they all had a pleasant evening.

GlobalTechIndustries · 02/01/2017 00:47

CauliflowerSqueeze One could assume but you never know.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 02/01/2017 00:51

Very true.

Veggie lady turned up stinking of vodka and singing "I will survive" at the top of her voice. She threw the nut roast across the room and then gorged herself on the roast lamb, gulping and belching frantically as she ravaged the meat, to the horror of the other guests. She then vomited on the dog and say crying in the corner that she wished she hadn't come and how her new veggie habit has been broken and what was the point of living. OP spent the evening mopping up sick and trying to order take out pizza for the other guests.

Cauliflower

Sounds like another great night out to me Grin

Being vegetarian is not 'attention seeking'

No it isn't. Telling people you are vegetarian when you eat meat products is though.

PlymouthMaid1 · 02/01/2017 19:30

Ha ha Cauliflower. I thought you were the OP for a moment. That would be so funny.

987flowers · 02/01/2017 21:18

I really want an update!

I've found this thread really has been really interesting. I eat a mix of vegetarian food and meat dishes as I like all food ! This woman however was immensely rude asking to change at the last hour! Can't believe the cheek of some people. You are a bigger person than me heading out and getting her something different.

Cagliostro · 02/01/2017 21:20

Very silly to tell you on the dsy

Cagliostro · 02/01/2017 21:20

Day* clearly hitting post before autocorrect kicks in was a bad idea
