Dh and I visited a local Italian restaurant for dinner tonight. Couple
In with a young baby (about 3/4 months I think)
Baby started crying then mum started crying, seemed embarrassed. I offered to walk about with baby an managed to get her back to sleep while parents finished their meal.
Dh said I was embarrassing and now I am worried they thought I was weird!

As well as being a European/British difference in attitude, I wonder if there is a North/South divide in the UK. I have offered help in situations like op did numerous times and been helped out similarly when my dcs were younger. I am in the North, but I know from my Northern relatives living in the South that people tend to be a bit more reserved about accepting help from strangers.

Of course you weren't unreasonable Star
You are a breath of fresh air and I wish there were more tolerant, lovely people like you around. Smile

You were bloody lovely OP. If I was the crying mum (and I've been there) - i would have fallen in love with you a little bit.
So there.

What a lovely thing to do.. well done you!

BaublesandBells · 31/12/2016 22:38

Amazing, I would have cried if you did this for me in the early days! How lovely!

I thought it was normal too! I've had this done for me and have done it myself. A lady on the bus and a waiter in a restaurant did the same for me and I've held a random baby a couple of times so parents can eat hot food! It's a common thing to do at least round here.
Not weird or U at all.
