My DH has just come back from the shops with 14 sprouts

He was shopping for New Year's Day dinner while I did the housework. There will be 7 of us for dinner, all adults. We are having steak with pepper sauce and steak pie. He bought four sachets of pepper sauce and 14 sprouts. When I asked why he only bought 14 sprouts his answer was "who eats more than 2 sprouts?" If you were going somewhere for dinner would you not expect to at least have the option of having half a dozen?

Yep me too. I see nothing wrong with offering people a choice of dishes, and it could also be that the OP's husband hasn't decided yet whether to do steak pie or the steak in pepper sauce. Either way both meals sound very nice and Id happily tuck in.

I would have been more inclined to do mushrooms and green beans or peas not sprouts. Sprouts are for roast dinners (only Xmas tho)

I'd be so disappointed if the only veg served was sprouts. Especially as so many people hate them, me included. I'd do some carrots as well or something.

Just to clarify - we are all family and I know what they want to eat. Five of us are having steak and me and my mum are having steak pie - we are not that keen on steak. The packet pepper sauce is just the base - cream will be added - it just makes it easier. We are also having carrots and broccoli in case you were wondering. I don't really care about the sprouts but he does the exact same thing every flaming year!

Changing the subject, where do you manage to get decent broccoli outside of those magical two weeks in summer? I like that, too, but it seems growing my own is the only answer. The worst I've come across is in Waitrose, those white stems are a dead giveaway that the beast is nothing like ripe and will be disgusting when cooked. I don't know how they have the nerve to sell it.
