My DH has just come back from the shops with 14 sprouts

He was shopping for New Year's Day dinner while I did the housework. There will be 7 of us for dinner, all adults. We are having steak with pepper sauce and steak pie. He bought four sachets of pepper sauce and 14 sprouts. When I asked why he only bought 14 sprouts his answer was "who eats more than 2 sprouts?" If you were going somewhere for dinner would you not expect to at least have the option of having half a dozen?

Can't have too many sprouts. You've now made me question why we haven't got more sprouts

bluebellsparklypants · 30/12/2016 23:05

Ha! Least he'd given it some thought 2each can just imagine them being counted out in the in the shop!
You'l have to do more veg or be creative can you do like mash sprouts/with bacon or something to speard them out?!

Grindelwaldswand · 30/12/2016 23:16

You need to boil sprouts and then fry them in butter and lardons to make them super tasty Wink if you don't like them normally you'll love them done like that

MyCatLikesToSitInBoxes · 30/12/2016 23:36

Op, the sprouts are the least of your worries. Steak and steak pie is just crackers, frankly. What if you don't like steak? Why such a steak-based menu? What about steak or fish pie?

PyongyangKipperbang · 30/12/2016 23:40

Well mycat presumably she hasnt invited a bunch of strangers and knows what they like and so has catered to the preferences of those attending Hmm

JustAnotherPoster00 · 30/12/2016 23:56

Like this OP? Grin

Grindelwaldswand · 31/12/2016 00:06

Oh my god that video is amazing Grin need to add that show to my list

CakesRUs · 31/12/2016 00:45

Chop them into quarters and you'll have 56 morsels of sprouts to go round your 14 people, spread them out a bit, put a bit of sauce over them... Bob's your Uncle.

CakesRUs · 31/12/2016 00:46

7 people even...

MrsPeelyWally · 31/12/2016 02:52

OP, have a lovely New Years dinner with your family and friends. Smile

Thalissadaan97 · 31/12/2016 08:02

I sent my son to buy 4 parsnips for christmas dinner, he came back with 16 big ones 😱They were packed per 4 so he thought better to be safe than sorry and got 4 packets!! We're a family of 4 so 4 parsnips would have been a lot, boiled, baked, mashed we've had it all and still they're not finished!
It's definately a man thing😂😂😂

Meridien · 31/12/2016 09:02

One sprout or two? ROFL!

I love 'em. Seven or eight for me, please, small ones best, and they're still a bit crunchy and bright green, not going a putrid yellowy colour. I'm not sure about pepper sauce on sprouts, though...

myoriginal3 · 31/12/2016 09:18

Reminds me of late Christmas eve when my aunt sent my uncle out to get some more Philadelphia for whatever dessert she was making and he came back with garlic and chive Philadelphia.
I'm surprised they are still married lol

diddl · 31/12/2016 09:31

I reckon on 6 each & eat what anyone else doesn't want.

I'd save the sprouts for another meal that they will go with!

FrancesNiadova · 31/12/2016 09:39

Well, I'm supposed to be making a raised game pie, cooking a side of salmon, roasting a honey glazed gammon & making a chestnut vacherin today.......whilst DH goes for cream, salad, bread & other bits. Worried now! (I wouldn't put the ice-pick past him!)

TheNaze73 · 31/12/2016 09:45

I think the menu choice is equally as odd as the 14 sprouts

Lessthanaballpark · 31/12/2016 09:47

Maybe you could have a raffle as they come in to see which guests get to have sprouts!

marhav999 · 31/12/2016 10:17

I love sprouts but appreciate that many people do not, even when fresh and properly cooked so would always offer an alternative vegetable.
As to whether steak pie, steak and sprouts go together, if you like it serve it. I would be more than happy to be offered this.

Temporaryname137 · 31/12/2016 10:26

OP didn't ask for criticism of her menu, no need to make her feel like shit before hosting a party!

Her DP, however, has made a very weird decision. They're not bottles of wine. Sprouts are vile and belong in the bin, however

Ibelieve123 · 31/12/2016 11:01

That's so funny.😂😂😂

Lostpangolin · 31/12/2016 11:20

I want roasted sprout recipes. Oh, I got a bag for 10 p yesterday # winningGrin

AlpacaPicnic · 31/12/2016 13:11

My roasted sprouts goes something like...

Cut the end nib off a sprout, then peel off the yucky outer leaves.
Cut sprouts in half, then tip into a roasting tray with a thin coating of hot lard or goose fat (left over from your potatoes)
Shiggle them round a bit so the fat coats them, then into a hot oven for 30 minutes until caramelised.

Lostpangolin · 31/12/2016 14:56

Thanks alpaca I'll be trying that!

bbcessex · 31/12/2016 15:14

I reckon that as OPs DH is shopping for AND cooking the meal, he can do what he wants imo.

Good man 👍

Coulddowithanap · 31/12/2016 15:47

I would have counted out at least 3 sprouts each!
