So many 'nethun' type posts on here just lately

I've seen so many posts recently with kisses on, not just after a post but after every sentence. I hate it.

Also words such as bubba and hubby have been creeping in.

Does it bother anyone else or aibu to want to punch my computer every time I see it?

Ah, sorry.

But the usual criticism of hun and LOL and all the xxxs is that it's overdoing it. Most people won't actually LOL. Maybe smile. The hun (apart from being a weird shorter version of honey) tends to sound too nicey and the same with all the kisses. So, it seems fake. All of them.

It's like the famous unmumsnetty hugs.

Lol, honey, xs, hugs, are fine. Just don't put them in or after every sentence or for no reason at all. It sounds, well, fake.

But, we're all different. I can't stand mushy FB posts, but some people love them. It's just that MN seems to have more of the unmushy people who really don't like mushy conversations.

Can someone who doesn't like the term LO tell me why it's worse than DC?

nethunsreject · 31/12/2016 14:46

It's a fair reason, to say that it's about helping convey tone and intention in the absence of visual communication, but with a bit of thought, one can do this without resorting to hun talk, or lol, etc. It requires a bit more thought and time but to me, it's worth it.
Just use words and the occasional emoji!

ChristmasTreats · 31/12/2016 14:48

They had a thread recently about a unicorn cake where the horn looked like a cock, I think all the posters have swapped sites and not told me.

I don't like LO, LB and LG but I have no real reason not to. I do hate when people write it in lower case as it reads as lo as in lo and behold.

steggers123 · 31/12/2016 16:46

What the fuck is 'the quintessential mner'? I'm sorry but this thread is awash with snobbery, ok so a poster using the words 'hun' and 'bubba' might offend your sensibilities, but does that give you the right to judge them and make assumptions about their class? If someone is well meaning and trying to help does it really matter if they finish a sentence with a x?

Steggers you've got the nail on the head for me.

Soubriquet · 31/12/2016 17:05

What on earth has class got to with it?

I'm working class. Well dh is anyway.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/12/2016 17:08

I know people from all walks of life who 'hun' and glitter the shit out of everything. As a working class woman I hate it when we get the blame for its rise. Its not my style but let them crack on. MN isn't an exclusive club, its an open forum.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/12/2016 17:10

It's nothing to do with class of snobbery , why bring that up ?

Bubba is a 'nails down the blackboard' bloody awful word and addressing strangers online as Hun is also shite.

I wouldn't pull up a poster on a thread for writing it but it's crap anc gets on my tits but it's not snobbery from me.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/12/2016 17:10

*or

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/12/2016 17:16

I have a close relative I love dearly who calls her partner Hubster. It used to make me want to tear my face off, now I think of mn and try to not snigger. I'm no snob, far from it. Its a taste issue I suppose. I can't read netmums, it makes me go queasy with all those banners and emojis.

Lweji · 31/12/2016 17:17

Like I said earlier, it's about personality. Nothing to do with class.

I cringe at bubbas and huns and all the mushy stuff from anyone, anywhere, not even just MN.
I'm sure I probably seem cold and insensitive to most such people. In RL too.

Soubriquet · 31/12/2016 17:20

I don't even use hun and all that tosh on FB

Everyone I message do and I just ignore the Hun and be polite and friendly back

I don't need to use Hun, bubz and hubster to be nice

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/12/2016 17:20

I never sign off a text message with a x and I'm loathe to do it in cards for a work colleague's birthday, just relatives get a xx.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/12/2016 17:21

I'd hit myself with a wet fish if I ever hunned anyone.

Soubriquet · 31/12/2016 17:24

It does annoy me on FB when every single sentence has a Hun in it

"Is this still for sale?"
"Yes it is Hun xx"
"Could I have this please"
"Course Hun! When can you collect"
"I'll be down around 4 if that's ok"
"No problem Hun! See you then"
"Thank you"
"You're welcome Hun xx"

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/12/2016 17:26

I don't do FB and that would drive me crackers Grin

Soubriquet · 31/12/2016 17:27

It does

Especially when you actually get the item and they throw it at you with a grunt. Not so polite in real life

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/12/2016 17:47

I'd hit myself with a wet fish if I ever hunned anyone
Your fishy, your roolz hun xx
