To expect people to be dressed if they've invited people round

Just that really- got invited round for Xmas drinks at some friends at 4pm and they were in their pjs and stayed like that for a 2 hour visit - Aibu to feel uncomfortable with the extreme casual-ness of it all. Even my kids asked why they were in their pjs Confused

I'm changing....
Beautiful word that encapsulates this behaviour.

Yes, I am a stalwart of the right to host in pyjamas community, that is exactly what my posts said. Hmm

Wookiecookies · 30/12/2016 21:21

Ooooh... "irritant"! do I make your teeth itch Cara? in a totally mumsnetty way of course Grin

Haven't , been back for a bit because I was too busy buying pyjamas for my next afternoon drinks and nibbles occasion.

Wookiecookies · 30/12/2016 21:23

In all seriousness, how many times do I need to make this clear. I wouldn't FECKING do it personally, but I dont believe that it makes the OPs hosts dreadful people.

Adnerb95 · 30/12/2016 21:30

Unless you go commando in your jeans or wear knickers under your jimjams, wearing jeans 2 days running is NOT remotely the same as wearing pjs both night and day horatio

1horatio · 30/12/2016 21:42

adner

I'm not talking about wearing pyjamas night and day. I'm talking about wearing pyjamas one night and the next morning... ;)

So, in conclusion.
Some think it's grim (can't help you there).
Some say I must have made my family uncomfortable and that they don't care about it being possibly grim... well, these people have seen me in a bra and shorts I highly doubt they were uncomfortable. Plus, DD was still so little that they probably thought it was because of her anyway 😉

1horatio · 30/12/2016 21:44

But yes, I wouldn't host a party in pyjamas either. But if that's something somebody else wants to do? Fine by me.

I feel like Wookie and I have made this thread much more interesting. Without us you would have been stuck agreeing with each other 😉

Wookiecookies · 30/12/2016 21:46

high fives 1horatio Grin

Ohyesiam · 30/12/2016 21:52

It's unusual, and maybe a bit surprising , but ok, surely?

Mindtrope · 30/12/2016 21:53

As I said, attention seeking.

1horatio · 30/12/2016 22:00

mind

But didn't you just say it was grim?

So what is your issue? The perceived grimness or people being in your opinion attention seeking?

Whatever. The brunch DH and I hosted was quite lovely and I don't think anybody felt uncomfortable. DD being still so little would have most likely also excused me in the eyes of some anti-Pyjama wearers here. Or maybe not.

I'm very tempted to just give them a call and ask whether I made them feel uncomfortable...

Mindtrope · 30/12/2016 22:02

I'm very tempted to just give them a call and ask whether I made them feel uncomfortable..

You do that horatio. Gives you a chance to savour your pyjama moment again.

Wookiecookies · 30/12/2016 22:06

"You do that horatio. Gives you a chance to savour your pyjama moment again."

WTF? Hmm

1horatio · 30/12/2016 22:13

wookie

Because my description of the brunch I kind of accidentally hosted in pyjamas (I could have opened the door and then gotten back up to get dressed, yes. But why? They're family.)

So, I have no idea how representative the people of this thread are...

But it seems like I may have found a cultural difference.

Roussette · 30/12/2016 22:14

Even when my lot were little, I still got dressed! Not sure what that has to do with the price of fish Grin

I know you are joking 1horatio about asking them if you in your pj's made them feel uncomfortable...
But... even if you asked them, they're hardly likely to say yes I thought it was bang out of order, they'd probably say 'it was fine' surely....

It;s a bit of a loaded question!

1horatio · 30/12/2016 22:15

*Because my description of the brunch I kind of accidentally hosted in pyjamas apparently means I'm attention seeking.

1horatio · 30/12/2016 22:16

Rou

True. But they've seen me dressed like that:

1horatio · 30/12/2016 22:18

So, I'd be rather surprised if they'd be uncomfortable seeing me in something like that (but with Pyjama bottoms underneath)

To expect people to be dressed if they've invited people round
Mindtrope · 30/12/2016 22:19

I kind of accidentally hosted in pyjamas

Laughing at the idea of " accidentally hosting in pyjamas".

Like accidentally going to the dentist wearing scuba gear- whoops silly me, must have forgotten to change.

Roussette · 30/12/2016 22:23

I can only just about tolerate this horatio

They came earlier, I was still in pyjamas and then idk. It wasn't a conscious decision to not get changed. That's just how it happened....?

That's why I wrote kind of accidentally? Because it wasn't planned?

roussette I don't smoke, sorry.

But my mother has certainly opened the door like this.😅 Other shoes, however. And more of an updo. Well, just a bit more stereotypically Italian looking, I guess 😂

Mindtrope · 30/12/2016 22:33

Yeas, sure horatio.

How long does it take to dress?

1horatio · 30/12/2016 22:36

I was in the bathroom when they rang the bell doing the cat washing.

It wouldn't have taken very long but I didn't have my clothes with me in the bathroom.

I'm not saying I couldn't have gone to get dressed after letting them in. I'm saying that it just didn't occur to me that this could be an issue. Because they're family?

hollinhurst84 · 30/12/2016 22:37

My poor postman sees me in my pjs every day. He seems to turn up at 3pm which is usually when I'm mid makeup and not yet dressed! I am fully covered, just sporting fetching pineapple print top and pj bottoms

Mindtrope · 30/12/2016 22:40

I was in the bathroom when they rang the bell doing the cat washing.

Don't you have staff for that kind of thing?

You couldn't make this up.

Hilarious.
Visions of some mad old bat washing a cat in her pyjamas before brunch.

Are you on drugs horatio?
