To want to take down my christmas tree

I have been jolly. Had a lovely few festive days. But we are going away in a couple of days for New Year and only home the evening before we are back to school/work.

I want to take it down today, but husband thinks I am being a bit of a misbag.

I am in the school of bday cards up only on the day of your bday, then into the recycling, so I do like these things to be short lived, but I want my living room back now the day is over. Aibu?

Oops-I've written the opposite of what j meant to say! Too early...

I can't understand why anyone would be pissed off with what anyone else does with their Christmas tree.

DameXanaduBramble · 27/12/2016 10:03

Rules are made to be broken and it's your house, so just do as you please!

MrsExpo · 27/12/2016 10:03

Not U at all. If that's how you feel, then take it down. i do have some sympathy with your views. Mine is still up, but it looks a bit surplus to requirements now the day is actually over. Might leave it til NY as i didn't actually put it up til the 23rd, but it will be well gone by 12th night.

pinkmagic1 · 27/12/2016 10:05

Exactly maybe. Many people are back at work tomorrow, myself included. My sister, bil and dm were back yesterday.

Lweji · 27/12/2016 10:06

If your husband doesn't want to take it down now, I'd make it his responsibility to do it when you return.
IME, after getting back to school and jobs it will take a long time till its taken down.

OTOH, it's Christmas till the 6th of January. Grin

Violetcharlotte · 27/12/2016 10:06

It's your house so do what you like, but I agree with others who say that now is the Christmas period, not the 'run up'. I'll be taking mine down on the 2nd before I go back to work.

OneLongDay · 27/12/2016 10:06

I normally leave mine up as late as possibly but this year I have the itch. The house is full of toys and boxes and I just want it packing away tidying up trip to IKEA for more bloody plastic boxes and have a tidy home

ClashCityRocker · 27/12/2016 10:16

I don't take mine down til after New Years.

For me, New Years is part of the Christmas season. Whilst the 25th is the main day, we still have various family gatherings, celebrations, friends round under the guise of it being Christmas before New Years.

Tis your house though, so do what you want.

bellie710 · 27/12/2016 10:18

We have friends for New Year and they always go home the day before they go back to work so they always take the decorations down before they leave.

Notmyname123 · 27/12/2016 10:19

I never get this thing about wanting your living room back. You have your living room as its normal boring self for 48/49 weeks of the year. Is it really so dreadful to leave it decorated for a few more days?

PurpleDaisies · 27/12/2016 10:20

My normal living room isn't boring-it's very nice. Smile

Much as decorations look lovely they do take up surfaces and space.

kitnkaboodle · 27/12/2016 10:22

Notmy ... I think people who want to rip down the decs do tend to be those who get a but twitchy if they can't hoover behind the tree ... I'm loving the prettiness/chaos/laziness and am quite happy not to 'get back to normal'. Btw, why do you have to take down the decs if you're back at work??

mummyplus7 · 27/12/2016 10:23

YANBU but I am the opposite of this. I like to keep my trees up from October through March.

TrippyMcTrapFace · 27/12/2016 10:24

YANBU.
I want to take mine down (along with everything else) but it's all only actually been up since the 23rd so I reckon I'll have to put up with it for a few more days. You know, in the spirit of the season. Xmas Wink

deblet · 27/12/2016 10:24

We always take ours down Christmas Eve. I like the house to be all clean and tidy for New Years Day I could not wait until the 6th we are all back at work and school then it would just be another job to squeeze in.

Ankleswingers · 27/12/2016 10:24

There is always a thread about this. Every year.

Depressing really.

PurpleDaisies · 27/12/2016 10:25

What's depressing about it ankles?

NightWanderer · 27/12/2016 10:25

I put my tree up on November 30th and take it down around the 27th Dec. It's more of an advent tree. We really need the space for the toys to go away as the tree was blocking the toy shelf.

PaulDacresConscience · 27/12/2016 10:27

Mine doesn't go up until Christmas Eve and comes down on NYD. My neighbours take their tree and decs down on BD but then they've had them up since the first week of December, so I am not surprised they want to get them cleared away.

Take your tree down when you want to take it down. It's your house.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 27/12/2016 10:27

Tree and leaving room decorations will be left up until the 2nd of january

All other decorations in the other rooms will be taken down day by day starting tomorrow with the childrens bedrooms and the playroom

FurryLittleTwerp · 27/12/2016 10:27

I'll keep mine up till the New Year - it's only been up for 10 days though & still looks fresh. I hate putting it up too early Xmas Grin

Blacksox · 27/12/2016 10:28

Ours has only be up 9 days! This whole week is Christmas as far as we're concerned; we've still got friends coming over and family to see.

My swag of fresh greenery is looking a bit crispy but I'll let it stay as I only made it on Saturday. Everything comes down on New Year's Day.

However, if we were going away for NY, I'd take everything down before we left.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 27/12/2016 10:28

I once put mine up one year on Christmas Eve and took it down on the 27th. Tbf, it was a very bad year. Mine is coming down on Sunday as I'm back to work Tuesday.

Konyaa · 27/12/2016 10:33

Ours went down yesterday!

DrCoconut · 27/12/2016 10:34

Decorations go up when school breaks up and come down on 6th January. When I was little the tree was put up on the 4th Sunday of Advent as a family thing. I moved it a bit earlier as the weekend before Christmas now gets taken up with other preparations. I like Advent in its own right and I like a 12th night cake too so each part of the season can be enjoyed. What others do is up to them.
