To want to take down my christmas tree

I have been jolly. Had a lovely few festive days. But we are going away in a couple of days for New Year and only home the evening before we are back to school/work.

I want to take it down today, but husband thinks I am being a bit of a misbag.

I am in the school of bday cards up only on the day of your bday, then into the recycling, so I do like these things to be short lived, but I want my living room back now the day is over. Aibu?

I will leave it till 12th night. Like having the decorations up.

Beardsareweird · 27/12/2016 17:29

I'm back in work on Jan 3rd, so I'll be taking the tree down before then.
YANBU.

Yoarchie · 27/12/2016 17:30

Mine's down
Takes up space!

I think too many people live the Asda lifestyle.
Whatever is on promotion is where they're at in their lives.
Xmas shit hits the shelves end of August when the school uniforms dissappear a week before the school holidays end. That's when Christmas starts for a lot of people. No wonder by boxing day their pissed off with it. Who wouldn't be?
Christmas has just become a huge consumer festival.
I'm an old boring old fart who doesn't spend much on gifts. I start xmas shopping end of November tree goes up a few days before. I try my best to give people my time over Christmas- which is now.
To be fair though I don't go mad on decorations. 1 tree in the lounge and An advent candle. Dining room has a smaller tree on the sideboard and a table decoration. It's not a big task setting up or taking down really. I imagine if you have lots of de s it must be a bit of an ordeal to get them down and an way an Wayne wonder if that's part of the reason some people class xmas as over at the very start?

5OBalesofHay · 27/12/2016 17:37

Ours is starting to look a bit past its best so may take it down tomorrow.' If it gets too dry our goats won't eat it and I'll have to take it to the tip and have needles all over the car

SovietKitsch · 27/12/2016 17:47

We put the tree up the last weekend before Christmas, and take it down the nearest weekend to the Epiphany - so shock horror this is sometimes after the 6th Jan. Saying Christmas is now over is really weird to me - it only started 2/3 days ago!

TheLaundryLady · 27/12/2016 17:50

YANBU - mine is coming down tomorrow as I'm fed up of the bloody dog trying to eat it !!

TheLaundryLady · 27/12/2016 17:52

Birthday cards stay up for weeks in this house though 😀

PlumsGalore · 27/12/2016 17:53

Mine is down. The garland from the fireplace and the staircase, the lit ivy from the window sills, the wreath, the lit up church, the hanging mistletoe, the gold bowl and plate chargers. The whose bloody lot. Been up since the first of December and Christmas is over now.

Did a tip run this morning, took the tree in a large duvet cover to save the car, and all the boxes and extra rubbish.

And relax, I am happy as a pig in a blanket now.

KookSpook · 27/12/2016 17:55

Mine go up on the 1st Dec & down on 1st Jan. I like to get my moneys worth. Xmas Wink

SheldonCRules · 27/12/2016 18:00

Plan to take ours down by Friday, hate it up for new year as it seems wrong.

Cards came down today for recycling.

WritingHome · 27/12/2016 18:04

God, this is a very depressing thread. I just can't believe that people want to take their trees down on boxing day (or before!)

But I also feel old as we only put our up on 18th and they will stay up till 2nd Jan. We have a big family dinner on NYD and will have them up for that.

THIS is the Christmas period for us. Not November!

WildBelle · 27/12/2016 18:05

I took mine down at about 6pm on Christmas Day!

Mosschopz · 27/12/2016 18:11

No no no no no!

It is the Christmas period not a day.

Twelfth night is the tradition, people who take them down this early reveal themselves as being nothing but shallow mercenaries.

PurpleDaisies · 27/12/2016 18:12

Shallow mercenaries?! Seriously?

Blacksox · 27/12/2016 18:21

Shallow mercenaries? That has made me laugh!

Mrscog · 27/12/2016 18:29

We're a mid December put up take down early Jan here. Christmas definitely a week of celebrating!

I would do tree 20th December if it was up to me but DH likes to be really early so we've compromised on 12th ish which seems to please everyone!

blibblibs · 27/12/2016 18:29

Ours went up on the 1st December and they'll be staying up for a little while longer. We've moved and the room is huge and I've nothing else to put in the place of the decorations so they can stay for the time being, should probably give them a dust though Smile

ZefStar · 27/12/2016 18:40

I agree with WetNovember, it makes me really sad there's no time for Christmas anymore. Lots of people just do all the twatty, consumer based shite that media tells us we have to do like elf on the bastard shelf crap , sitting round in onesies talking about how much we love home alone, taking pictures of ourselves so everyone knows how much fun we're having, and as soon as the gifts and overeating are finished with it's time to move onto the next thing. Cleaning your house to a ridiculous standard and talking about how busy you are or how 'OCD' you are or some other self diagnosed self obsessed wankery (I know OCD is a real thing btw), modern life can be pretty darn grim

ZefStar · 27/12/2016 18:41

We should all stay off work until the 6th December, sing carols round the piano and give tangerines as gifts dammit!!

PurpleDaisies · 27/12/2016 18:44

It's a huge assumption that people wanting to take their trees down now are living a consumerist lifestyle, put them up at the beginning of November and have somehow lost the real meaning of Christmas.

snowone · 27/12/2016 18:46

YANBU - get it down!! Mine will be coming down tomorrow - we are also going away!! Xmas Grin

CaraAspen · 27/12/2016 18:47

Some people put the tree etc up far too early and surprise surprise are fed up of it now. Poor tree.

Writerwannabe83 · 27/12/2016 18:49

I took my tree down today. I took it down on the 27th last year too. Once Christmas Day is over I kind of find the tree an annoying eye sore that takes up room where presents could go Grin

5moreminutes · 27/12/2016 18:54

Tree goes up on Christmas Eve, take it down on 6 the Jan.

This is correct. 14 days is just right. More would be dreary. Excessive tidy and sorting and chopping up the tree for fire wood (which is also correct) and "getting back to normal" before 6th is incorrect.

Xmas GrinXmas Wink
