Mushy peas.

I know I'm right on this and dh is a loon. He wants mushy peas with Christmas dinner!

That's just all kinds of wrong.

No meal should include mushy peas

RayofFuckingSunshine · 23/12/2016 10:07

DH insists on mushy peas with Christmas dinner.

PurpleMcPants · 23/12/2016 10:07

I was all ready to say Christmas dinner can contain anything you like but no, you're right, mushy peas is a step too far.
LTB.

ChippyMinton · 23/12/2016 10:07

Have them with chips and ham on Boxing Day instead?
Although it it Christmas so why not?

Bluntness100 · 23/12/2016 10:08

That's disgusting, he's being highly unreasonable and I would strongly advocate LTB.😂

Seriously, though, yes it's wrong.

Rainmaker1 · 23/12/2016 10:08

Why not? Not my bag but at Xmas anything goes! Yorkshire puddings here on Xmas day, not traditional but I love em so we're having.

liz70 · 23/12/2016 10:08

"No meal should include mushy peas"

^^ This.

FlyingElbows · 23/12/2016 10:08

Mushy peas should be illegal and there's something very wrong with anyone who would eat them. Peas are the most wonderful things and should be left as the glorious orbs they are. Imo.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 23/12/2016 10:11

So glad I'm right and dh is bonkers, a long with rays dh.

I'm all up for yorkshires for Christmas but I despise mushy peas at all times.

Or spicy onion rings! MIL used to put spicy onion rings on the plates at Christmas dinner. I'm still mentally scarred

ChuckSnowballs · 23/12/2016 10:11

If he is cooking it then he can have what he wants.

If I was cooking it and he wanted Mushy Peas, I'd give him the whole lot, and it means that I would get more stuffing and roast spuds. Win win.

Boogers · 23/12/2016 10:11

Mushy peas and Brussels sprouts - your husband is going to be jet propelled on Boxing Day!

Wolfiefan · 23/12/2016 10:11

Peas should not be mushy.

HoHoHammered · 23/12/2016 10:13

Mushy peas with Christmas dinner?! Envy

Emochild · 23/12/2016 10:14

Christmas dinner there should be a rule that you can eat what you like

We are having patatas bravas with ours -they are beautiful with turkey

Kel1234 · 23/12/2016 10:14

I don't have mushy peas, but I do love marrofat peas cooked until they are so soft they are almost mushy

HerBluebiro · 23/12/2016 10:15

I was initially with you op. It instinctively felt wrong for Christmas day.

But the more I thought about it. The more I thought why not? They are scummy. And roast potatoes are quite like chips. And now I want chips and mushy peas. Although this may have more to do with the fact that I haven't had breakfast yet

I don't want to get into veg variety geek mode here, [years too late for that love] but there are specific peas that are grown for fresh [the glorious obs of which you speak], those which are marrowfat and for mushing, and even others which are for drying, and for use during the winter in stews etc eg the Latvian Pea. Plus others such as the Eat All pea which can be used as Mange Tout [which means Eat All], and Sugar Snap which are a rounded mange tout. The Mange tout can be eaten as a pod because the pod is not all mealy [which occurs in 'normal' peas], but also left for the peas inside.

Very versatile, the pea.

MIL served tinned marrowfat peas as her Xmas veg of choice -Urgh....

HerBluebiro · 23/12/2016 10:22

Chuck. I had to scroll up to see if I had missed a pay from op, as I thought it an extreme reaction to no mushy peas. Glad it was in error. Took the thread on a dark turn!

ispymincepie · 23/12/2016 10:22

This will totally out me but we have Hawaiian salad with ours. It's a mixture of crushed pineapple, desiccated coconut, sour cream and marshmallows. Yes, you read that right. On the turkey.

HolidaySpiritsReinbeerAndWhine · 23/12/2016 10:23

My partner will be having ketchup with his Christmas dinner, no gravy. I've put my foot down about baked beans over veg the bloody overgrown child.

MerylPeril · 23/12/2016 10:24

I think Hawaiians don't get what a salad is....
