Aside from the UK, where would you want to live?

Inspired by my other thread.

I'm from Australia, and I would live in the UK in a heartbeat.

I've spent extended periods in some of the places mentioned. They were lovely and had many advantages.

I've now found a part of England that has many of those advantages. Obviously weather not great at this time of year (roll on January, bring on lighter evenings and bye-bye tatmas) but there is so much that is good here.

scaryteacher · 23/12/2016 17:15

Vancouver Island, Washington State, Copenhagen, possibly NZ, but as I am currently in Belgium, I cannot wait to move back to Cornwall and my own four walls. Roll on late 2019.

oliversmum I liked that area too, lucky you if you have been able to spend lots of time there! I like oz but felt too cut off there to live there, major FOM there!

MeadowHay · 23/12/2016 17:22

Ugh idk. I lived in France for awhile and I liked that. I'm not sure if I liked it more than the UK or not. Actually I think I did if it weren't for the pull of family & friends in the UK and the language difficulties. So France.

Otherwise would consider Canada, Australia and New Zealand. But I've never even visited any of these places so maybe romanticising! Also would consider Finland and Sweden but the language barrier puts me off.

Lordofmyflies · 23/12/2016 17:38

Canada (BC) or Iceland.

expatinscotland · 23/12/2016 17:40

France.

TheSlaughterOfHerodificado · 23/12/2016 17:40

Italy.

Or Italy.

And Italy is nice.

No- definitely Italy. I've finally made my mind up.

needsahalo · 23/12/2016 17:48

In order of preference...Argentina, Nepal, Peru, Sri Lanka, Mexico

daisypond · 23/12/2016 18:33

Italy. Crossing the border between France into Italy feels like coming home.

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/12/2016 18:36

France.

Tamberlane · 23/12/2016 22:05

Im Irish born and bred and I moved to Australia two years ago.
Im never going back!....well bar for visits!
This place is paradise.
I'm 15 minutes from an airport so can gwt pretty much anywhere.30 minutes to a massibe skyscraper full urban centre and still get to enjoy beachside living in a small town.
Finishing work at half 5(because they do work life balance!) And going for a swim in the sea in crystal clear water and 28 degree heat.....bliss. my only regret is not leaving earlier!

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 23/12/2016 22:14

I'm quite surprised at all the people wanting to live in Switzerland. What's the pull?

I think I'd like to have a few apartments around the world and float around them:

Salo in Italy with a lake view
A New York loft
Amsterdam canal boat with hot tub
London penthouse
On the beach in Gower, Wales
A little house in Cape Cod

And my current house.

I haven't dreamed about this at all. Xmas Blush

AteRiri · 23/12/2016 22:27

I want to live in Wales too - neighbor to Uncle Bryn, Nessa and Gwen!

Essex neighbor to Pam and Smitthy is nice too!

VodkaJelly · 23/12/2016 22:36

New Zealand - lots of family there, or the canaries, love it there.

counterpoint · 23/12/2016 22:38

Greece or Cyprus. The ultimate weather.

Civilized, hospitable people with a great history and lovely traditions. Oh, and the best (and healthiest) food in the world!

Did I mention among the safest sea swimming ...

pinkhousesarebest · 23/12/2016 22:40

Surprised at so many choosing Ireland...why? (am Irish).

oldlaundbooth · 23/12/2016 22:44

Yes to the patchwork of green fields. Always makes me cry a bit Blush

I live in USA, just outside Boston. Im originally from just outside Edinburgh in Scotland. I dont think I could go home now, its not the country I left behind 30 years ago. I dont LOVE where I live now, its just a place. I have NO idea where would work better for me though, this country has been very good to me.
Im of the opinion that if you have to work it doesnt matter where you live. If I didnt have to work, I think Id go to the BVI and spend my days on a boat, think about opening a nice rum bar someplace ( if I didnt have to rely on the income as they are EVERYWHERE) just to keep in touch with humanity when I felt like it. Either that or a small holding in the arse end of Vermont where I could potter about making sausage and bacon and pies and chutneys to my hearts content. Depending on the day I could go either way Grin

Araminta99 · 23/12/2016 23:04

I wouldn't leave London. Also agree about the view from a plane of coming home... it's really emotional for me too.

Becca8675309 · 23/12/2016 23:08

I currently live in London and do enjoy it, but would move back to any of my favourite cities in a heartbeat - Sydney, Tokyo, or Palm Beach

PuppetInParadize · 23/12/2016 23:42

I'd like to be in a small-ish city in Germany - so not rural and not a big city. Or the Netherlands, somewhere with canals (lots of choice then!! ones that appeal include Delft and Haarlem). Other ideas, all kiboshed by fecking Brexit and my chronic ill health combined, include western Poland or the Czech Republic. If willing to leave the continent of Europe in an aeroplane, then NZ or Canada - but I am not sure I'd want to be in a canadian winter. Scottish ones are enough.

ginghambox · 23/12/2016 23:45

Samoa

Shosha1 · 23/12/2016 23:59

Live in U.K.

But in my dreams I would live in Australia.
Perth in particular.

Grew up a RAF brat, following Dad all around the middle and Far East.

Definitely prefer the Southern Hemisphere

JoyLibs · 24/12/2016 00:00

I live in NYC now but I get a little nostalgic and sad every time I go home. The green fields and the mountains in the distance and tons of farms and cows dotted all over the countryside...I'm from a rural state in the northeast, and it was just an amazing place to grow up. Great community and so much freedom to run around. Unfortunately, the job market isn't great. That, and well, I can't imagine living in such a small place anymore!

I studied abroad in London though and absolutely loved it (so if this were a question about where you'd live outside of your home country, that'd be my answer). It felt like a cleaner and quieter version of NYC.

BigBangTheory789 · 24/12/2016 01:01

I would move to Dubai or Canada. Saying that I'm a London girl and love it so don't think I will ever leave...
