To disbelief this is something people buy? A waste of a good idea?

Amazon dash, personally yes I think it's a great idea. Essentially it's a push button that auto orders things for you so like toiletries, condoms, fairy liquid.

Now I think awesome that would be handy, but then I saw the price they are £5 each so to put that into perspective you would need one each for:

Toilet paper
Deodorant
Mouthwash
Toothpaste
Shaving cream
razor blades
Shower gel
Shampoo
Washing up liquid
Washing detergent
Dishwasher soap
Etc

That would be £55 plus the £80 prime membership you need to even order the items you need.

In a way it's a shame I could imagine this becoming a really useful product that could generate a lot of sales for Amazon with so many people having these buttons in their house but I can't see many people paying £5 per button

£5 isn't very much for what it is and you wouldn't need to buy them all at once.

I think it is actually a pretty useless product and they will not be around in a year or so.

Personally though I'd take the £55 to Costco and buy enough of all those things to last 5/6 months.

But those are the sorts of things I never buy full price. I buy whatever loo roll is on offer.

I agree £5 isn't that much for one, but for what it is I think it's expensive if you were to have it for all the essentials. I also think if they were free. £5 pales in comparison to what most people would buy in a year clicking it

You get a £5 discount after your first press, so in effect as long as you use it the button thing is free.

Allegreto I disagree because many people forget and so a button would mean that they don't have to think about it later it's oh we're almost out...click also there's people who are computer illiterate and may have issues leaving the house

They were reduced for black Friday to 99p. Got my DH one as he said he wanted an amazon dot thought it would be funny to give him this first. Grin

I just think it is really wasteful. The material involves in making them so that once a month at most you save yourself the hassle of having to order online- two or three clicks at most (though you still have to approve the ordrer I think). Also I doubt most people are totally brand loyal or always buy the same sized pack etc- so will still want to choose what they buy. I think most will just end up in landfill in a year or two.

I got some when they went down to 99p. Amazon we're still offering £4.99 off the first order so it made the products cheaper than usual.

I agree it's useless in the current form. The quantities are just too high. I would be up for a button which delivers say a 4 pack of toilet rolls within the hour but the minimum order size for loo rolls is something like 45 which is just insane.

You get the fiver back, though - they take it off your first order of each product.

I do think there are lots of things about it that sound crap - but the cost of the buttons isn't one of them, as that cost is refunded.

I seem to remember when the Guardian reviewed it that the biggest problems with it were the ease of pressing the buttons by mistake and ordering stuff you didn't need, or the fact that they kept falling off wherever they'd been stuck and ordering items as they hit the floor (and anything they bounced off on the way down).

We have one for the coffee machine pods at work and it is really handy because previously no one could be arsed to order or go out and buy them. Now we press the button and if one has already been ordered it doesn't let you accidentally double order.

It doesn't seem very environmentally friendly, getting all these individual things sent instead of getting a shop all at once.

I can't say I was impressed with the range of products either. Plus you have to actually be in to receive the delivery. Easier to run into mini Sainsbury's on the way home and grab stuff.

I very much doubt people buy prime solely for the use of the dash buttons when it comes with free next day delivery for everything else, prime instant video and so on, so that's a bit of an irrelevant point.

DS and DiL got one for laundry detergent and loo roll. They said it was fun as a 'novelty' for awhile, then got 'boring' and much easier to just pick some up (cheaper) at the store.

Well I've been suckered in and got one for an elderly family member who doesn't even really use the internet but is very forgetful. Seems like finish products are gonna be on me. I have Prime anyway, buy out of principle I was a little miffed at the thought of buying a button that would help them sell me more stuff.

Looks like finish dishwasher soap is on me for the foreseeable future Xmas Blush

I wouldn't have one because it relies on brand loyalty, I get whatever is the best value for everything.
