WIBU to leave 10 year old at home with his nan while the rest of us go to Florida?

10 year old son has caught a nasty bug and he is pretty much in bed 24/7 and has been for a couple of days. He has been having lots of fluids but has the full d & v. He is ok though but no way is he ok to come away. We rarely go on big holidays but do go to somewhere in Europe every year. We are going to Orlando for Christmas I have 5 children and I think it will be really magical. He is very close to my nan and they spend a lot of time together. The last thing I want to do is leave him but I do have 4 other children that cannot wait for this holiday and I don't really know what to do. WIBU to go away with other children and leave him here with his nan?

Hi I'm really sorry for not getting on everything has been very hectic it wasn't that I wasn't going to return or being rude Hmm he didn't vomit at all from 11 am and took him to GP at 3, who said that it's most likely at the end but that he should rest and won't advise that we fly but also said that he wouldn't say he isn't fit to fly - he still had D but only when he went to the toilet, he didn't need to go constantly (sorry if TMI). I still wanted my mum to come because of all the reasons stated about us getting it etc. and tbh I know my mum will really miss us this Christmas - there are other family members so she was in a bit of a position to say yes but she ended up agreeing. DS wasn't feeling amazing and because it was a night flight (you always feel more crap) he wasn't feeling that well when we left. Was able to get a relatively good deal on business and upgraded me and DS. Mum and other DC were happy in PE. Don't worry before you all moan at me, my mum was happy with this arrangement and I specifically asked her lots! I said she could go with DS but said I would hate for her to get ill and she said she would rather be with other DC in PE Smile it was good for DS as he could sleep just like his own bed and feel all revived and better and also you're less compact with other people so less chance of them getting anything I suppose? I'm probably going to be called all kinds of names for this but I did what I thought was best for everyone. I am just so happy with everything. The DC are jumping out their pants they're so excited. Thank you all so much for the help.

I'm ready to be slated but tbh I could have asked for a better outcome and you were right about the ESTA.

Great that you got there and DS is feeling better.

Hope you all have an amazing Christmas, and that the bug bypasses all the rest of you! Xmas Smile

As long you made / make sure his hygiene was / is absolutely impeccable hopefully all will be well x

TwentyCups · 21/12/2016 14:34

So pleased for you. Enjoy your holiday.
I also would like to say I think you've done an amazing thing taking them all away for Christmas. It would be far harder at home where the memories of your husband are everywhere. Hopefully it will be easier in fresh surroundings. Hugs for you, and wishes for a better 2017.

Aeroflotgirl · 21/12/2016 14:34

Hope you all have an amazing time Flowers

He's at the end, now, it sounds as though it is mostly out of his system. Carry lots of anti bac wipes for hygiene.

Christmasmice · 21/12/2016 14:37

So great you all got there. Have a lovely trip.
Realistically there are all sorts of bugs on airplanes and as long as you were very over cautious with hygiene hopefully it will have been OK.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 21/12/2016 14:41

I'm so glad you made it, you really didn't deserve that to happen to you.

I'm on immunosuppressants and no flaming will come from me, I'm sure you will use good hand hygiene for you and DS, and that will drastically reduce the chance of anyone catching anything. The other 4 members of my family had d&v and I nursed them for a week without catching it, I'm convinced because I washed my hands constantly.

I hope you and DC and nan have a wonderful Christmas!

Daisyfrumps · 21/12/2016 14:41

Carry lots of anti bac wipes for hygiene.

Incorrect - she needs antiviral wipes / spray / foam - antibac is absolutely useless for gastro viruses.

SparklyMagpie · 21/12/2016 14:42

Oh wow ! Brilliant outcome! Smile

I hope you, your mum and your children have a wonderful, magical Christmas!!

And fingers crossed you are all well!

What a rough year, this will be the start of an amazing new year for you all!

Brilliant !! SmileFlowers

Daisyfrumps · 21/12/2016 14:43

Or anything bleach-based.

Anyway - sure OP is sensible - enjoy :)

ShelaghTurner · 21/12/2016 14:52

Have a lovely time! Sounds like you certainly all deserve it Xmas Smile

ReggaeShark · 21/12/2016 15:24

Hooray. Happy Christmas OP.
