There we have it Devi. While the sheltered middle class feminists are talking about gym equipment there are women in the middle east with hardly any food or training that are picking up rifles to fight their oppressors

missswatch and you are literally here complaining about people on a message board. So how is that better? Are you saying you do not care about the middle east women either as people can only care about one thing at a time?

user1482025636 · 18/12/2016 17:28

"Why dont men do more to help other men?
Women have spent decades raising money for shelters and Rape Crisis. Why dont men do that?"

Because DJBaggy we live in a capitalist system where no one, including Theresa May, gives a fuck about the poor.

"According to homelessness agencies, 12 per cent of rough sleepers in London are women but this is likely to be an underestimate. Rough sleeping is extremely dangerous for homeless women - many have been physically attacked, verbally abused and sexually assaulted. Women respond to these dangers by making efforts to 'remain invisible', choosing places to sleep which are hidden from view and disguising their homeless status in some way.

Not only does this make it difficult to estimate the numbers of women rough sleepers, it also means that those women who are sleeping rough are less likely to be accessing the help and support they need. Whilst 60 per cent of homeless women have slept rough, only 12 per cent had engaged with street outreach teams."

Missswatch
Do you expect men of today to speak for men of the past?

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 17:29

women in the middle east are at war and non-feminists are here arguing (very poorly) about what people type on a message board. disgusting.

Boundaries · 18/12/2016 17:29

The biggest reason for women to be homeless is as a result of DV. They also have higher levels of mental illness due to historic abuse. That leaves them vulnerable.
They also have particular vulnerabilities whilst on the streets, in terms of sexual assault and coercion into the sex industry.
So yes, men on the streets have a "privilege".

The traditional "strong man" is also less likely to be able to ask for help, if life is going up shit creek - look at the numbers of ex forces who end up on the street. That strong man shit is all part of the same issue.

Missswatch · 18/12/2016 17:29

I do care about middle eastern women. They would rather fight their oppressors than moan about gym equipment or pink shoes for girls. Mad respect to those women

EnormousTiger · 18/12/2016 17:30

Equality between the sexes is also about ensuring fairness for men too as most feminists agree. Many of us are delighted with the new 50% leave rights after babies are born. I would like to see more 50% care on divorce both as a male right and something forced on men (plenty just run off of course and a good few are unfairly denied contact). Lots of us feminist lobby for those rights.

Yes, men are on the streets. We do nto have a massive problem of homelessness and in fact some on the streets, male and female prefer not to be in hostels for all kinds of reasons although I am not saying everyone has a hostel place who needs one.

However on the whole even in the UK women suffer more discrimination than men. So boards like mumsnet not surprisingly work hard ot try to ensure a better position for women. Men of course also can lobby to improve their own rights and we can all use any names we choose for these things.

If you are strong and independent enough you don't need to be one

If you are strong and independent, you perhaps might need to thank one. Or a thousand. Or more.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 17:31

Here's one. Men have male privilege right? So homeless men have more privilege that middle class SAHM women?

Can you add this to the list of sources you're currently compiling - where have you seen this stated?
your imagination is quite something

Missswatch · 18/12/2016 17:31

Grandma fallacy again

No, you have said that people can only be concerned about one thing. You are concerned with this message board therefore you are happy that middle eastern women are being slaughtered.

BertrandRussell · 18/12/2016 17:32

"This old chestnut. The white feather campaign. Feminists would shame men for not going to war. Why didn't they push women to go to war?

Feminists did that? Any evidence for that?

Boundaries · 18/12/2016 17:32

WTAF is the Grandma fallacy?

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 17:33

No. Thats not good enough.
Rape Crisis and womens shelters have not been funded or run exclusively by or for middle class women.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 17:33

bertrandrussell, why are you asking for evidence? miss said feminists don't like science Confused

Missswatch · 18/12/2016 17:34

No, you have said that people can only be concerned about one thing. You are concerned with this message board therefore you are happy that middle eastern women are being slaughtered

I am happy they stood up and are fighting their oppressors. Very strange you think I am happy about them getting slaughtered, maybe you are happy about that?

Boundaries · 18/12/2016 17:34

Ok. Have googled.

Grandma fallacy seems to be that you shouldn't assume that because a movement did good in the past it continues to do good now?

Riiiiiight.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 17:36

can't believe that missswatch is happy to watch women and children die because she'd rather complain about a message board. Typical non-feminist, they're always going on about how rape and murder are brilliant.

Missswatch · 18/12/2016 17:37

Really black? When did I say I was happy about it?

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 18/12/2016 17:37

Yep, clearly doesn't care about women in the Middle East or would be doing something about it, not arguing here. Perhaps bringing down their governments single handedly.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 17:40

missswatch you said that people can only be concerned about one thing. Gym equipment, apparently. I happen to disagree and believe that sometimes, someone can care passionately about two... maybe even three things simultaneously.

As you are demonstrating that your single problem in life is what feminists say on a messageboard, then by your logic the middle east is a far lesser problem for you.

user1482025636 · 18/12/2016 17:40

Well according to my source:

"in 2011 the housing charity Crisis found that 84% of the hidden homeless were male. And the latest CHAIN figures suggest that 9 out of 10 people sleeping rough are male."

www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/may/07/men-gender-divide-feminism

But this isn't the point. We know that at least as many homeless men as women are sleeping rough - very possibly more. So therefore this is an example of men being completely disempowered. If feminists factored class and wealth disparity into their intersectional analysis then they would have to acknowledge this. They'd have to acknowledge power is a dynamic, shifting Venn diagram - not a fixed binary. As most of them are academics on salaries these men could never dream of they are in general not that bothered though. They aren't even that bothered about homeless women. Which is why you rarely hear mention of them.

In fact, the whole of the middle-class liberal left is not that bothered about homelessness - or for all their fixation with racial politics, the BAME poor. They prefer poncing about deconstructing novels and having stupid Oxford Union debates.
