to be mystified at people obsessed by prosecco?

Fully expecting to get a kicking for this.
On Facebook, in shops. People who seem to have their entire sense of humour based around wine.
Every post on Facebook is some crappy meme about wine o' clock, prosecco or a 'cheeky' glass of wine.

lois Can I just break off on a tangent and say I read in one of the Sunday supplements today 'curating your stocking'
Yes really.

MysticTwat · 11/12/2016 14:19

I don't mind proseco, I don't get the hype though.

Last year I was in a wine sellers getting the christmas booze. I asked for some proseco, that was nice and refined a little less harsh than the bog standard stuff. She brought a bottle of champagne over Grin

I don't remember which champagne it was but it was really nice and not that much more then the proseco in there.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 11/12/2016 14:19

Ah c'mon. You just need to Keep Calm and Drink Prosecco...

We had our first bottle of Prosecco last year (in our 50s). It was a freebie from the wine shop Blush We were very surprised at just how much nicer than champage and cava it was.

But it is only a wine. Once a year if it is lucky! Not sure I have ever understood bandwagonning!

DorothyHarris · 11/12/2016 14:20

pencil early middle aged! You've just ruined my day Shock

CrystalMcPistol · 11/12/2016 14:21

I don't mind prosecco but much prefer a nice dry cava.

Prosecco is having its moment as the 'girlie' wine of choice much like chardonnay did 15 years or so ago.

SpookyPotato · 11/12/2016 14:21

Yeah some people are obsessed with posting about alcohol on facebook, I know someone who posts about cheeky vodkas at least twice a week to show she's had a stressful day. Or an arty photo of a glass of wine. It's such a fixture in life now.. well it always was, but it's acceptable to open about it now.

Kel1234 · 11/12/2016 14:22

It's nice as a cheaper option than champagne, and slightly nicer than cava or sparking wine. But I wouldn't go mad over it.

liebstraumNo3 · 11/12/2016 14:22

Talking about alcohol gives people a bit of personality I guess. I agree it's dull as dishwater.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 11/12/2016 14:23

I do like this though...

Move to Canada. They don't have prosecco.

SpookyPotato · 11/12/2016 14:23

Double whammy Diseases, good work.

Twogoats · 11/12/2016 14:24

Wahay! I'm out having a few cheeky proseccos with the girlies!

Told the boy I'll be back by 11pm, but Mandy just got another round of cocktails in!

"I never used to really drink prosecco but I've discovered Aperol Spritz since having a few holidays in Germany and Austria and as an essential ingredient in said spritz it's now on the weekly shopping list"

Bakingaddict I thought it was an Italian thing. I first tried Aperol spritz on holiday at Lake Garda and loved it.

A girl I used to work with now lives in France and she often posts pictures of her drinking wine out of large containers of different descriptions. I don't get it. It is like we hero worship drinking these days.

Oh I love an aperol spritz.

SapphireStrange · 11/12/2016 14:28

It's not specifically or exclusively prosecco, though; it's a general obsession with having a 'cheeky' drink or 'is it beer o'clock yet?', isn't it?

Which I don't really get. Grown-ups giggling about how drunk they are/plan to be.

On prosecco, though, I have to say I prefer it to cava or champagne.

1DAD2KIDS · 11/12/2016 14:29

I remember my mate's (now) wife was a few years ahead of the curve. We would go to the pub and all use men and women would order pretty normal drinks, she would order a bottle of prosecco and insist on it in a bucket on the table. My ex wife would tell me who does she think she is trying to show off. I would just say if that's her thing what harm is there. To be fair my ex wife was probably right about her showing off. Which is stupid because although we are all fairly normal people in our mid 20s (at the time) most of us had been pretty successful and were fairly well off so no need to impress. I wonder how she feels now that prosecco is so ordinary now?

Do you think prosecco is the only thing keeping Italy's crumbling economy afloat?

MysticTwat · 11/12/2016 14:30

Yeah some people are obsessed with posting about alcohol on facebook

Yes I have a few people on fb like that, I think they have a serious problem with alcohol, but seem to think it's hysterical to obsessed by their drink of choice. One is all about gin. (Don't get me wrong I love gin) but it's like it is her way of saying "this is me! the gin woman look how much and many different ones I drink! aren't I cool"

TurnipCake · 11/12/2016 14:32

I like prosecco.

I don't like: prosecco crisps, prosecco candles, prosecco sweets, talk of 'wine O clock', 50something friends/relatives competing about how drunk they plan to get followed by posts of how hungover they are.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 11/12/2016 14:33

Why 'mystified'?

I don't drink but I understand that some people like things that I don't. Do you spend your entire life in a confused and mystified state? Grin

UnbornMortificado · 11/12/2016 14:34

I have people like this on FB I think at least one has a drinking problem.

I'm pretty much teetotal now due to medication but when I did drink I never used to use it to define myself.

myoriginal3 · 11/12/2016 14:34

It's the equivalent of mn obsession with gin.
