Fully expecting to get a kicking for this.
On Facebook, in shops. People who seem to have their entire sense of humour based around wine.
Every post on Facebook is some crappy meme about wine o' clock, prosecco or a 'cheeky' glass of wine.

Sorry Dozer that was for you Blush it's quite strong ! Not like Irn bru, it's not sweet - apart from the orange slices, more like a gin/Campari hybrid. Very refreshing.

Popularcontrarian · 12/12/2016 20:52

No no no no no, prosecco, cava and champagne are not all the same thing!

Cava and champagne are made using secondary fermentation in the bottle, the proper champagne method. Whereas prosecco is made is massive, ginormous stainless steel tanks and for many of the cheapies in supermarkets the bubbles are injected in!!

Nothing at all like cava or champagne. Prosecco is overly sweet cheap muck. Give me a nice Cremant from Loire any day (also secondary fermentation)

((Wine snob Wine))

"Prosecco is overly sweet cheap muck"

For the third time on this thread - not all Prosecco is sweet

There is a lot of ignorance on here about Prosecco. A lot of people are assuming it is sweet. It isn't. Most supermarket Prosecco is Brut (very dry) or extra dry (dry). Less widely available is dry, which I have never seen in a supermarket.

Both Cava Brut and Prosecco Brut have up to 12 grams of sugar per litre. Both wines in extra dry have 12 - 17 grams of sugar per litre

Cava also comes in extra Brut and Brut Nature, which to me would be too dry to be enjoyable.

Popularcontrarian · 12/12/2016 22:05

Edited to say all those prosecco drinking idiots posting on social media are most likely drinking "overly sweet cheap muck'

While not all of it is sweet, most of the stuff sold in supermarkets is cheap and is definitely muck.

HermioneWoozle · 13/12/2016 16:24

Such prosecco ignorance! All the prosecco I've had was dry and a lot of it was bought from the supermarket. I've also drank a lot of quite rubbish champagne at £25 - £30 a pop - that's the overpriced muck.

I don't mind that you don't know about it but don't post with such certainly and prove your ignorance.

HermioneWoozle · 13/12/2016 16:32

Not all of it is sweet

None of it is sweet, having just looked at Sainsbury's selection. Quite the opposite.

I don't know what you were drinking, contrarian. Perhaps it was Lambrini, or Babycham, and you became confused.

HermioneWoozle · 13/12/2016 16:33

Plus secco is "dry" in Italian. Bit of a clue there.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 13/12/2016 16:37

Prosecco meh ! Give me a bottle of Blue Nun any day !

You seem like an expert - what can I buy that doesn't have bubbles - injected in please Shock

I love prosecco, adore it in fact! Its so drinkable. Most champagnes I get access to verge on acid cider taste, cava is a little too dry too, I dont find prosecco sweet at all, its just so drinkable.

SantasJockstrap · 13/12/2016 16:52

Prosecco really is nothing special, to me it is like a bottled headache that tastes like piss and only pretentious dicks go on about drinking it cos its got a fancy name

I think they should rename it something like Maddog2020

Wtf is wrong with people who talk like this? "I don't like something, so I'm going to be horrible and nasty about the people who do like it".

You know,, but you don't have to be a dick about it.

VilootShesCute · 13/12/2016 17:23

I love prosecco! Facebook should be banned though I HATE that...

NicknameUsed · 13/12/2016 18:41

Thank you Hermione. I was beginning to wonder what people were drinking. I have never come across a sweet Prosecco.

MrsPeelyWally · 14/12/2016 04:49

Wtf is wrong with people who talk like this? "

I think it says more about people who post in that manner than anyone else.

user1480946351 · 14/12/2016 09:06

You could think that that. You'd be wrong though.

SausageSoda · 14/12/2016 10:56

FFS, there's always one Grin

MLGs · 14/12/2016 11:01

I like prosecco, but I like plenty of other things too, and definitely not obsessed with it.

I think it's just got a sort of comedy about it now, I supposed similar to blokes talking about a pint of larger.

It tastes the same as Cava to me too (although of course you get different types of both, so the taste varies, but not in a way that I could tell you if it was prosecco or Cava)

user1480946351 · 14/12/2016 13:16

FFS, there's always one grin

Always one that thinks its not nice to call people pretentious dicks because they like a different drink to you?
Lets hope there is more than one.

Arcadia · 14/12/2016 16:53

Crayzee coasters spotted in local gift shop this afternoon! There were also prosecco soap bars, candles and gin and tonic lip balms and candles!

I like prosecco but agree there is a lot of hype around it. I like it because for some reason I feel far better the next day than if I drink the same amount of wine-lower alcohol content maybe or the smaller glasses?

to be mystified at people obsessed by prosecco?
CockacidalManiac · 14/12/2016 16:55

Oh shit, Arcadia. The memes have escaped Facebook and are now disguising themselves as tacky coasters.

The 'mum' bit is particularly nauseating! When would a man's drink be referred to as 'dad's'?

MitzyLeFrouf · 14/12/2016 17:09

Pretty often.

plimsolls · 14/12/2016 17:13

ARGH. Yes. I don't mind prosecco (or any alcohol for that matter) but I can't bear all the unfunny memes, merchandise and so on about how much someone loves to drink it. Prosecco, wine, and gin seem to be the worst for it. Gin always seems to be combined with the worst of the Internet twee-speak..... "Too much adulting today. Need gin and unicorns" "Sending you all the gin and all the feels" etc etc.

It's just boring and a bit "I'm mad, me".

Drink what you like, shut up about it.

Happy Christmas Xmas Wink ha ha

MitzyLeFrouf · 14/12/2016 17:13

Beer features pretty heavily in Father's Day merchandise.
