To think neighbours should come and collect their parcel?

Dh took in a fairly large parcel (think box of wine size) for our neighbours on Thursday or maybe even Wednesday afternoon - I can't remember.

It has been in our narrow one person width hallway since then.

Aibu to be a wee bit pissed off now?

And

Wwyd?

I would call round to them and give it to them.

WhooooAmI24601 · 10/12/2016 21:54

Are you certain the delivery driver left a card? I've taken in deliveries for neighbours before who've had no card through and been surprised when I appear on their porch with a box. I've also been on the other end and had folk turn up with stuff I had no idea was delivered. This time of year is peak season for delivery drivers, errors are easily made.

Pocketsizedpixie · 10/12/2016 21:54

Our local delivery man often doesn't bother to put a card through when he leaves parcels with the neighbours (even though we leave instructions for them to be put in the shed...) - perhaps neighbours don't know you have it?

giantpurplepeopleeater · 10/12/2016 21:54

Take it round??? Confused

kilmuir · 10/12/2016 21:55

I would take it round!

MrsBungle · 10/12/2016 21:55

I'd take it round to them.

juneybean · 10/12/2016 21:55

Gotta love mumsnet "box of wine size" sounds like something my mother would compare it to haha

But I too would call round just in case they haven't seen the card.

mumonashoestring · 10/12/2016 21:55

Have you checked that they know it's there? We've had deliveries returned to senders before because bloody Royal Mail have returned them to the depot but not put a card through the door.

Marmalade782 · 10/12/2016 21:56

YABU.... do they even know you have it??
Either give them a call and let them know you have it or take it round to them??

bumsexatthebingo · 10/12/2016 21:56

Give them a knock. I've had parcels left with neighbours but no note through the door to inform me before now.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 10/12/2016 21:56

We had an irate neighbor bang on our door, annoyed that they had had a parcel for us for over a week....we had no idea they had it because we'd had no card to say it was there.

We've also had a parcel go to a neighbour and whenever we knocked, they weren't in so they had it for 6 days

Pissed off seems ott after 2 days...

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 10/12/2016 21:57

Maybe they didn't get a card through the door?

Mind you, there was an (in)famous thread a few years ago with one poster insisting that it was the very height of rudeness to impose on people by going to collect one's parcel. The only acceptable course of action was to wait for obliging neighbour to lug round parcel at a time convenient to themselves.

Perhaps that poster is your neighbour. Grin

arethereanyleftatall · 10/12/2016 21:58

I'd take it round.

Unless you've been in 24-7, they might have knocked. Or not had the note like pps have said.

girlelephant · 10/12/2016 21:58

I would also deliver it incase she didn't get a card. I've had this happen before and only realised when I chased the company for non-delivery and found out it had been signed for by a neighbour the day before. They told me it was standard to leave a delivery slip yet I had nothing!

MatildaTheCat · 10/12/2016 21:58

Yep. Couriers get paid for getting rid of a parcel, not writing a card to tell the true recipient where the delivery is. They almost certainly don't know.

Just give them a friendly knock?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 10/12/2016 22:02

Juneybean, I am probably your mother's age if not older.

Right, prominent sign goes on front door tonight "Sorry but we can't accept parcels for no. XX". I'll send dh round with it tomorrow.

Ohh I just meant she was a fan of wine!!

hellejuice91 · 10/12/2016 22:04

We take in parcels regularly for a number of neighbours, sometimes they'll come to pick it up, sometimes we go to them - really it's whoever notices that the other one is in first. I've had times when a parcel is at a neighbours house for a couple of days because I've tried when they are not in. YABU.

FireSquirrel · 10/12/2016 22:05

We've had a neighbour's parcel for about a week now, they haven't come to collect it even after I put a note through their door in case the courier hadn't left a card, and nor have they answered the door when I've tried to take it round (four times now!) even though they're clearly at home because I can hear them through the wall. Getting really fed up of it clogging up my living room.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/12/2016 22:08

Oh fgs, you're going to put a sign on your door explicitly stating you won't take parcels for them? All because they may have missed you/ didn't get a card or genuinely forgot? It's a one time thing! Seriously, get a grip. If I take a parcel in for a neighbour I take it to them when I know they're home, it takes 30 seconds.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/12/2016 22:09

Some people will go out their way to not do any more for their neighbours than absolutely necessary. Kinda sad.

PrettySophisticated · 10/12/2016 22:11

What?? How hard is it to pop round and tell them it's there, y'know do a nice thing for a neighbour?. They probably didn't get a card, or they haven't been home at a reasonable hour to knock, but even if they have, I can't imagine being even mildly annoyed by this.

Thecatmademedoit · 10/12/2016 22:12

As PP have said I've also taken in a parcel for a neighbour before for it not to be collected for about 4 days. I did try and drop it round during those 4 days but to no avail. He did get it almost a week later and the delivery man hadn't left him a note so he had no idea!

LadyLothian · 10/12/2016 22:12

I'd drop it around.

I took in a parcel for our neighbours during the week. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind doing it, but I tried to drop it into them three times and they weren't in. Felt less like a good deed and more like an albatross around my neck.

Finally gave it to the woman of the house this morning who seemed more irritated by the interruption than grateful I'd taken it in. Confused

I'll be glad when the Christmas parcel delivering is over and I can go back to being my curmudgeonly self!

Hellmouth · 10/12/2016 22:13

YABU

Some delivery drivers are crap and don't leave a note.

They might have knocked on your door and YOU weren't in or didn't hear them.

Just go and knock on their door. It's not the end of the world.
