Is one type of prostitute 'better' than another?

Woman 1 - heroin addict, prostituing to feed her habit. Stands on street corners and will go with anyone that has the money.

Woman 2 - professional career, no drug habits or alcohol problems, doesn't even smoke. Simply wants extra money as she's saving to buy a house as she wants to get involved in property development. Her full time job doesn't pay enough to save for the kind of house she wants. She finds clients through an escourt agency.

Is there a difference between the two or are they both as bad as each other?

Also would you/have you ever considered it as a way of easy money?

Isn't the answer obvious? Clearly the second one is better -- she doesn't have a drug addiction and can therefore stop whenever she has saved enough to buy her fancy house. Or not, if she so chooses.

Anyone read the blog post about prostitution and PTSD? That is middle class, indoor, 'nice' prostitution.

MrsJayy · 08/12/2016 23:41

Yes i think everybody on this thread should read the guest post and decide which scenario is better

Italiangreyhound · 09/12/2016 00:06

That post is very sad and exposes more of the real story.

Araminta99 · 09/12/2016 05:16

I don't think one is better than the other. Both cases are very sad.

In some ways the second example is even more pitiable because an attractive, ambitious woman must have rock bottom self-esteem to reduce herself to doing that, when she could earn money in other ways. I'd rather do ANY job than that. Money can't buy mental or physical health and a clear conscience.

klassykringle · 09/12/2016 06:56

I think AskBasil's comment from that thread deserves being reposted here for those who don't have time to read it as it puts it really well;

"I think there may well be people for whom it is just a job, just as there may be women who are prepared to be surrogate mothers for money, for whom it is just a job.

But I suspect they are in such a tiny minority that their interests should not be put above the interests of the very large majority who will be harmed by this "job".

It's all about risk assessment. Sure, a few people may not be harmed. But for the sake of all those who will be, we need to oppose enabling punters to abuse prostituted women."

minifingerz · 09/12/2016 07:04

Both are sad.

I think it's intrinsically traumatising for a woman to be physically intimate with someone they're not emotionally intimate with. Do it repeatedly as a financial transaction and they are risking serious psychological damage.

MrsJayy · 09/12/2016 09:00

I agree with you minifingerz I dont think any woman could come out of prostitution unharmed

Dutch1e · 10/12/2016 22:11

Seriously? Have you never eaten a forgettable burger just because you're hungry? Does it always need to be a 17 course degustation menu in the company of your beloved?

HoridHenryrules · 11/12/2016 20:55

I don't get it.

JustGettingStarted · 11/12/2016 21:23

I get it.

Not everyone thinks sex without intimacy is traumatising

HoridHenryrules · 11/12/2016 21:42

Thanks for that. They must be thick skinned. I remember watching about 2 female escorts working in the city of London. They were explaining what it was like and how much they charged it was £250 an hour. One of them stopped escorting and the other friend carried on. I googled her escort website her friend is still escorting and now they charge £850 an hour fucking hell. Is a man really that stupid to pay £850 an hour?

feartyfeet · 11/12/2016 22:11

Dutch - your analogy doesn't hold. A prostitute is not (necessarily) "hungry" (for sex) at all. They're eating an unmarked tin of food whether they're hungry or not

FloraFox · 11/12/2016 22:27

A better analogy would be someone having a tube rammed down their throat and fed food they didn't choose whether they are hungry or not. Repeatedly.

JustGettingStarted · 12/12/2016 01:00

The second prostitute in the op can refuse a client or a particular service.

Presumably the first one can too?! Though I realise there are many sex trafficked ones that don't have that choice. How sick must a man be to go to one of those!

user1498852361 · 18/07/2017 11:02

I work as an escort and have done for three years. I am very particular about who I see, most of what I do is time and companionship and I only see gentlemen who pass a 'screening' for my own safety and wellbeing.

Personally I think everyone has different lifestyles and jobs and I wouldn't judge someone as I wouldn't want to be judged myself. I am fully aware that some do see what I do for a living a wrong however it provides me with a very good quality of life and gives me what I need.

I would never judge someone on what they choose to do with their life. As long as they are happy and what they are doing is not doing them any harm. I always use protection for my services and personally if someone doesn't I don't agree with it but it's not my place to judge as I myslef do something that I already judged rather a lot.

Stay happy stay healthy take care of your family and keep the peace :)

So shouldn't I reply to an old thread?
