AIBU to think that people should clean up after themselves in a cinema?

Just came back from the cinema, saw Moana (fantastic movie, btw).
Families with little kids all around us, all with large. popcorn/drink combos or similar.
Now there will always be some spillage, especially with kids. But this wasn't only spilt popcorn or ice-cream. They simply got up and left all wrappers, drink cups and packaging behind.
AIBU to believe that teaching your children to take their trash with them and dump it into a bin outside is basic manners? How can they leave a room looking like a pigsty?

I agree same in McDonald's too.

GeillisTheWitch · 04/12/2016 18:48

Vue cinemas show a trailer asking you to leave your rubbish so they can sort it for recycling, or they have done recently in my local one anyway, was it a Vue?

Caboodle · 04/12/2016 18:49

Yanbu. Drives me bonkers, as do the people in self-tidy type cafes that leave their tables a mess. Why? So lazy.

LokisUnderpants · 04/12/2016 18:50

We always put our rubbish in the bins on the way out. YANBU

In my opinion, YABU.

Some cinemas ask you to leave your rubbish. After each viewing, staff usually go in and clean up anyway. Think of it as giving them a job. If there was less stuff that needed doing, there would be less staff.

Also, just cos they do it at a cinema does not mean they do it at home. I always leave my rubbish in the cinema but that doesn't mean I love rubbish strewn all over my living room floor lol

Hellmouth Say what??! Shock

It's too dark to see when you leave unless you wait for all the credits to end!

AgentProvocateur · 04/12/2016 18:53

YANBU. People are selfish and thick, and they're bringing up their children to be the same.

CremeEggThief · 04/12/2016 18:54

The cinema is the one place I've always left my rubbish too.

HoneywithLemon · 04/12/2016 18:55

My gran used to clean in the local cinema. She used to encourage us to chuck stuff on the floor to keep her and her mates in work!

Glastonbury · 04/12/2016 18:56

What would posess someone to walk away and leave their rubbish? As children it was always drummed into us to throw our rubbish in the bin.

dementedpixie · 04/12/2016 19:04

We leave ours (also a vue cinema) as there aren't bins handy to throw it away afterwards.

dementedpixie · 04/12/2016 19:05

We do clear up in fast food places though

ZoFloMoFo · 04/12/2016 19:05

Vie cinemas ask their customers to leave their rubbish behind.

ZoFloMoFo · 04/12/2016 19:06

*Vue

GlitterGlue · 04/12/2016 19:11

I'm not convinced they do clean very often though. There is always crap on the floor and sticky patches.

It's not just cinemas though, there are always some dickheads who dump their rubbish wherever they happen to be. Train dumpers give me the rage.

DailyMailSucksAss · 04/12/2016 19:13

The imax in london specifically told us to leave rubbish as they had problems with parents just dumping stuff outside. Been to several odeons since and the policy seems to be the same.

museumum · 04/12/2016 19:13

I always take my cup and popcorn box out with me but then there aren't any bins in the foyer. It's awkward to then find somewhere to put it. I honestly think they want us to leave it in the auditorium but I feel a bit lazy doing that.

BonusNewt · 04/12/2016 19:14

I was an usherette and I expected rubbish to be left behind. It show the cinema worked. Now I leave rubbish behind and tell the kids to, also. It's the circle of life.

BonusNewt · 04/12/2016 19:14

It's how, not it show

WeirdAndPissedOff · 04/12/2016 19:15

The bins in ours - a Showcase - are really small. Fine for normal rubbish but if even half of a viewing threw away their rubbish they'd be overflowing. I always feel bad leaving it there, but it seems like that's their intent. Blush

It sounds weird typing that out, though. Especially since people expecting cleaners to throw away their rubbish usually drives me up the wall!

PossumInAPearTree · 04/12/2016 19:16

There aren't any bins in our cinema that I've ever seen, not in the auditorium nor in the foyer. I leave rubbish but as tidily as possible.....so chocolate wrapper and drinks carton inside the popcorn box.

I always put my rubbish in the bin at McDonald's.

Caboodle · 04/12/2016 19:17

No bins = take it home. Or carry it until you find a bin.

Thundercake · 04/12/2016 19:17

My local cinema (also VUE) has one bin at the door of each theatre. The opening at the top of the bin is too small for the popcorn buckets. I always sneak my own can in and bring that home because I didn't know they recycled.
