Fuming, raging, heartbroken....

It seems like this is used about everything now.

AIBU to wonder why nobody is ever just a bit miffed or slightly put out anymore?

And what happens to the fuming, heartbroken ragers who get so angry about an innocuous comment from a teacher or a sideways glance on public transport when something really bad happens? Do their heads actually explode?! Confused

I mean "everyone on MN seems to suffer from. . ."

Bunnyfuller · 30/11/2016 18:48

My default setting is curmudgeonly. Anything different to that requires a large lottery win or alien invasion. So, that's just curmudgeonly then.

Doobydoo · 30/11/2016 18:51

Grin to OP. There is nothing worse

ClareN1980 · 30/11/2016 18:51

What's a little hyperbole between friends? Nothing to get carried away about.

Beeziekn33ze · 30/11/2016 18:54

From 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway' by Susan Jeffers 1987:

'It's terrible' is bandied around in the most inappropriate circumstances. For example, 'I lost my wallet. Isn't that terrible?' It's certainly an inconvenience; it's hardly terrible.
I gained two pounds. Isn't that terrible?' It's hardly terrible to gain two pounds. Yet that's the way we talk about trivia in our lives. And our subconscious is registering, DISASTER ... DISASTER ... DISASTER. Replace 'it's terrible' with 'it's a learning experience.'

I was showing the book to someone I thought it might help. She got the point!

Pipistrelle40 · 30/11/2016 18:59

Have ground my teeth so much with rage that my dentist recommended a mouth guard to stop me doing this at night and loosening my teeth.

Have had to have a rabies injection because have been frothing so much and people are starting to avoid me in public.

Have made an appointment with my doctor to DEMAND tranquillisers. Had to scream a bit at the receptionist before they would understand this was like a complete emergency.

Beeziekn33ze · 30/11/2016 19:00

I did get a bit fed up with young teachers announcing to the staffroom that they'd just taught a stunning lesson or showing us the children's stunning art work. I'll decide whether I'm stunned, thanks!!

samandpoppysmummy · 30/11/2016 19:06

It's 'rediculous' how much I love this thread. (My most irritating mis-spelt, over-used MN and FB word, along with 'discusting'). I do like 'fumming' though! 😀

EarlGreyT · 30/11/2016 19:36

PiecesOfCake
I've noticed you can't be "sad" any more either. You have to be "beyond sad".
Or devastated

Greengoddess12 · 30/11/2016 19:39

On the other scale 'super excited' makes me physically hurl, yes really Wink

FurryLittleTwerp · 30/11/2016 19:41

Oh Blimey this thread! Ha bloody Ha!

No-one cares that my eyes are literally boiling in their sockets & I actually sneezed my head off during the afternoon.

If I were a man, I'd have flu for sure but it's just a pissing cold.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 30/11/2016 19:47

Ooh, great quote, Beezie.

Dot, feel a v.v.v.bad case of hyperbolphobia coming on. Have logged call to emergency services (all three).

MetallicBeige · 30/11/2016 19:56

Can't believe the marching MILs (always mils) have been missed out.

My MIL often marches to my house and DEMANDS that DH and I go out while she looks after my PFB, PSB, Dcat1, Dcat2, Ddog1, Ddog2 and Dfish.

She is literally so controlling and toxic. And I am such an introvert.

38cody · 30/11/2016 19:57

I'm livid that I was duped into opening this thread under false pretences.

erchissick · 30/11/2016 20:06

absolutely crying with laughter at this.

Seriously, I'm actually sat with a small grin on my face as I sip tea and surf while waiting for a rather important email to land in my inbox.

But inside, I am absolutely crying with laughter!

Greengoddess12 · 30/11/2016 20:10

Beyond livid? Mind I do like a cuntingly selfish myself.

My teeth however never itch! Nor my piss boil. Abject failure.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 30/11/2016 20:16

Reminded of my old boss who when "incandescent with rage" wrote a letterSmile
Flowers to you FenellaMaxwell you've made my day.

thenovice · 30/11/2016 20:19

Perhaps its just that when life is really tough, terms like tragic and devastated are reserved for the big stuff. If nothing much is wrong, then the small things seem more important to people because they aren't busy worrying about really bad events. Perhaps its a sign that life is good in many ways? When I went to India, I saw more people with happy faces in the slums than I ever do on a shopping street in UK. Are we just spoilt?

Greengoddess12 · 30/11/2016 20:21

Entitled novice Grin

Booboobedoo · 30/11/2016 20:24

'Whoever parked outside your house/ looked at you funny/ bought the last kitkat is incredibly entitled.

Incredibly.

Boils my piss.

MerryMarigold · 30/11/2016 20:24

ROFL

actually sat slightly hunched on sofa with laptop on lap and a blanket round my legs. The floor is a very cold tile.

user1475439961 · 30/11/2016 20:25

I think language just changes over time and words lose/change their meaning or depth.

EarlGreyT · 30/11/2016 20:28

Pipistrelle40 after the appointment with your doctor to demand tranquillisers, were you then RUSHED to A&E?

I mean no one ever goes to or is taken to casualty these days, they're always rushed there. Usually (if you believe what you read in the Hate Mail) you're rushed to A&E after being fobbed off by the GP who was useless!

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 30/11/2016 20:40

SukeyTakeItOffAgain, am totally, head-explodingly apoplectic that you have CONFRONTED me over our joint vaguely-tea-related user names. To add to the utter devastation you have also inadvertently made me realise that I mis-remembered the rhyme and in fact it was bloody Polly who put the kettle on.

IrenetheQuaint · 30/11/2016 20:50

The corner shop has run out of peppermint teabags. I am sobbing, literally crying big angry tears of rage and frustration :( How on earth can I even start to work through this??
