To be concerned that DD needs bigger knickers

DD (4.7yrs) has always been a different shape to DS (6.5yrs). He lost his toddler chubbiness fairly quickly and is now fairly slim, whereas she's a lot more solid looking. Today she was complaining that her knickers are going up her bum. I had noticed this and was thinking that she needed a bigger size. Problem is that the ones she is in are size 5-6yrs so she would be wearing size 6-7yrs and she isn't yet 5!! AIBU to be a bit concerned about this: her diet is fairly healthy, I don't feed her junk or anything. She has always eaten more than DS because she likes more foods, whereas he's quite fussy.

My 5 year old has a bottom and she is.in 7-8 undies. Hth

DD has to wear a couple of sizes up to get decent cheek coverage and prevent serious builders bum when she sits down!

Just buy knickers that fit and don't irritate her, and ignore what the size label says

Does she look fat or is she big for her age? My youngest ds is 3.5 and wear age 5 plus clothes - he often swaps with his 5 yr old brother

Everything i buy my dd 4.10 is 6-7 now. I'm not worried in the slightest as she is a healthy weight.

She's nearly 5 ffs how on earth is it unreasonable for her to wear one size up?

Depends on the knickers - some (cheaper) ones are quite skimpy and you have to size up sooner than other brands.

Can also be a sensory thing, at least one of my kids prefers very soft clothing and wears knickers I think are too big, but which she finds comfier than ones I think look right.

My eldest ds has always been one size bigger, sometimes two sizes in pants. He's not overweight.
Youngest ds is in smaller sizes than age. He's also within healthy weight range.

My girls have all got different builds and are all very sporty but have my bum which means only a cwrtain shape and a good couple of sizes above their ages will do. My son is 10 and was wearing a pair of age 4-5 pants the other day but hes not exceptionally small.

Some people have big bottoms.

Another 5 year old in size 7-8. She is the height and weight of a 7-8 year old mind. I'd be worried if she was the weight of a 7 year old and the height of a 5 year old!

Ha as a cm I well remember a dad commenting on his dds. He said dd1 had a bum and dd2 had an arse.

Was true and they were both slim just different distribution.

Sure she's fine. Get the knickers and don't comment.

Is she tall for her age? Where is she on the height and weight centiles?

Try a different style, rather than just going up a size.

You can get those seamless shorts from M&S or Primark that are a better shape for those who are built to need a bit more "seat" coverage.

This is interesting. It's interesting that so many of us have had this problem. I am beginning to wonder if it's get another symptom of little girls clothing mirroring adult female clothing. Just as crop tops, logos such as 'boy magnet' and heeled shoes for 9 year olds are now common place, perhaps knickers have got skimpier as well. My DD has been wearing underwear three age brackets up for some time, even though she's quite slim really.

Is it me or is it a coindence that there is another thread at the moment which is pretty much similar to this, I don't know how people can come on this site and openly discuss their childs bottoms with a bunch of strangers.

I third the seamless shorts. The Primark ones are pretty good.

Just buy her knickers that fit!

When getting clothes sizes for 60 kids (for costumes) of various ages a few years ago, maybe half were in the size that corresponds to their age, which leaves half either bigger or smaller. As long as she's healthy it doesn't matter

I guess it might depend on brand? Dd is nearly 7 and pretty average size. H&M age 4-6 are just getting a bit wee on her. JL age 6 are pretty baggy.

My friends's just turned 6 year old daughter is in age 9-10 pants and clothes. :-/

Dd2 has standard size 4-5 knickers which are starting to look too small. Do you tumble dry at all? I'm sure a good part of dd2's size issue is that they've shrunk. Dd1 has some which have also shrunk (7-8) but fit dd2 really nicely.
