Stating the obvious:

This site is very popular. Anyone could could be reading and posting on here.

Threads which seem to encourage people to talk about sexual behaviour in preteens, probably aren't from a concerned parent and for many, many reasons, it's not wise to go into great details about your own exploits and make out that sexual activity in under 16's is no big deal.

Not a TAAT, as there's been loads of threads like this, but they seem to be increasing in number and frequency.

YANBU and I think the same at times. Some posters are too happy to discuss their own DC, not having a clue who it is with. I think I know the threads you are thinking of.

So where should posters wanting that kind of advice go then? Just not bother to post? Some people don't have much support IRL, telling them to not post here because of pedophiles isn't helpful.

There is - sadly - a lot more exploitative material out there on the internet, I'm sure mumsnet isn't the go-to site for pedophiles.

I think that was an odd thread but threads like that don't come up often. I'm sure a paedophile comes across much worse than what's written hear.

I have mixed feelings about this.

I absolutely see your point, but the fact is that small children do engage in behaviours such as masturbation and it is IMO exceedingly important that parents are aware of this, and entirely understandable that a parent might come online to seek advice and/or support. A paedophile is no more or less likely than an ordinary member of the public to be aware of this, and even were they entirely oblivious would still be a paedophile nevertheless.

That thread was ridiculous and another example of people trying to be that cool laid back parent and saying outrageous things.

I know this is anonymous etc but people do really need to remember that it's not a cosy night in with your mates...it's the Internet.

There used to be one poster on here who used to constantly make threads about how she was worried about her3 year old who apparently kept masturbating. Then you'd get an influx of people telling "her" it was fine and their own kids stories. just don't feed these threads With your own anecdotes. Keep your children's personal problems personal.

That thread was totally dodgy, couldn't believe all the posters on it treating it as if it was normal. I don't have a great trolldar but that was just yuk.

But its not a "problem" - children do masturbate, however unpalatable that may be. I was doing it before I was 3! Obviously when children are tiny it's just a comfort thing and has no relationship whatsoever to sex.

I didn't read the thread so it may well have been penned by some weirdo, and I agree that some people do overshare online, but it seems very odd and neurotic to assume any such thread on this topic must have been started by a paedo.

Yes, I've seen quite a few threads on the latter topic which turned out to be dodgy.

I know some will think I'm being alarmist, but I think some people could do with realising that contrary to perceptions upthread, we have some very dodgy people indeed posting on here.
