Farted on bus loudly, rude comments? AIBU to feel this was unnecessary?

This is an embarrassing post. On a bus (not crowded) yesterday. I had a dodgy stomach that appeared during the morning with loud farts.

Unfortunately during part of the journey I let off a loud and a bit smelly fart. Cue two women nearby one saying loudly "that's disgusting, who would smell like that, who would do that, dirty bitch" with a pointed look at me and looking away. I got off the bus feeling a bit embarrassed went to a toilet in a department store, went to the toilet and cleaned myself up (it wasn't as bad as I thought it was) got hand sanitizer and took some anti-diarrhoea pills.

AIBU to think this one woman was really rude or am I being over sensitive? It was one of those routemaster buses she said something about opening the windows but they don't have windows... That's not my fault and I had no idea my stomach was so bad.

Thanks

YANBU but it's quite beyond me why you've described what happened afterwards about cleaning yourself up. Confused why the gross details?!

WellErrr · 20/11/2016 12:18

No Super but if I loudly shat myself on a bus and someone muttered 'dirty bitch' next to me id probably think 'yeah, fair dos.'

jobrum · 20/11/2016 12:19

Rude. The done thing is to pretend you heard nothing while hoping that something similar never happens to you.

OutragedKoala · 20/11/2016 12:20

You're not a troll but you're going to start puppeting to agree with yourself 😂 stop trying to justify, everyone agrees you are BU

Runny · 20/11/2016 12:21

I remember when I was in Primary school one of my friends farted very loudly in Assembly during the Lords Prayer. Of course everyone burst out laughing. The headmaster went apeshit, called her disgusting and told her that she should go and live on the farm with 'all the other animals'. This of course made us all laugh even more.

Looking back I think he massively overreacted IMO.

Oh and btw a fart isn't 'shit particles' it's wind, it's nothing to do with shit and has no connection to it whatsoever.

SemiNormal · 20/11/2016 12:21

Some incredibly precious people on here, people fart, shit, piss etc - be thankfully it hasn't happened to you .... yet!

OP YANBU.

YouWereAlwaysPerfect · 20/11/2016 12:21

YABU I would have the same thoughts those two ladies did, but I wouldn't have said anything to you, what you did was just disgusting in so many ways, you should have got off the bus.

AbernathysFringe · 20/11/2016 12:22

Some people just use swearwords in everyday language, 'bitch' might be nothing to her. To people who don't talk like that, yes, she was rude. To people who have better control of their bodily functions, you were rude. You kind of cancel each other out. What a lovely bus that must be to travel on.
Thanks for sharing...

hollyatchristmas · 20/11/2016 12:23

Outraged actually everybody doesn't think that.

2kids2dogsnosense · 20/11/2016 12:23

Etiquette dictates that you pretend it never happened, especially in a yoga class. Grin

Unless you're at home, in which case you say..."Whichoneofyoudidthat?"

To which the traditional reply is "The Dog!" (Even if you don't have a dog . . . )

DonaldStott · 20/11/2016 12:24

Love the username Runny

Very appropriate for this thread Grin

Puddington · 20/11/2016 12:25

YANBU I think, of course it's not pleasant to have someone let off a loud fart in a bus with no open windows but I honestly wouldn't dream of openly calling someone a bitch for doing it Shock And while this has fortunately never happened to me, I do know the terror of having an upset stomach and worrying something like this will happen!

She's not talking about poo, she's talking about rude people on buses.

Gawd, are some of you hermetically sealed or summit?

pipsqueak25 · 20/11/2016 12:27

outraged you certainly aren't speaking for me or a few other posters it seems on here, some of us have empathy with people when they are unwell.

2kids2dogsnosense · 20/11/2016 12:27

No woman flatulates in public unless she really can't help it (I say "woman" because many me have an infantile interest in scatological matters, and many would consider it hilarious!)

OP - I think they were very rude to draw attention to your difficulty. Yes - it is offensive, but it's one of those things that can't be helped. The polite thing to do would have been to Be British and Pretend That Nothing Had Happened.

That's what I would have done, even if I had been choking.

BeingATinselTwatItsABingThing · 20/11/2016 12:27

What the hell did I just read?

2kids2dogsnosense · 20/11/2016 12:28

*men, not me, obviously

Saucery · 20/11/2016 12:30

even if I had been choking
😂😂

MissVictoria · 20/11/2016 12:30

I honestly hope half the posters on this thread never suffer from/have a child who suffers from a digestive issue like Crohns, ulcerative colitis, Irritable bowel etc.
Upset stomachs happen. Even in people without chronic bowel conditions. Some people just have rather noxious farts without any medical issue. Farts are a normal part of daily life, courtesy is to not just "let them go" around people in confined spaces, but it's not always possible to hold them in. Regardless of any of the above, there's no excuse for rudeness. It's an unpleasant inconvenience, but that's no excuse to be abusive to somebody. Hope you're feeling better soon OP. Flowers

KatherineMumsnet · 20/11/2016 12:30

Hi all, we have no reason to suspect the OP isn't genuine - so can we call a halt to the troll-hunting please? Thanks mucho Flowers

crashdoll · 20/11/2016 12:30

If she wanted to talk about rude people on buses, why did she describe that she later shat herself? That's the bit I don't get.

BeingATinselTwatItsABingThing · 20/11/2016 12:32

One of my kids at school has got appalling farts. Silent and indeed deadly. The kids all immediately go "URGH!!!" and cover their noses but I have to pretend I can't smell it. God it's awful!
