to say no to this 13th birthday party invitation?

I've been handed a 13th birthday invitation by 12 year old DD, lovely.

Only its a 10pm finish, next Thursday. Which is a school night.

She'll hate me if I say no... But my gut is saying "WTAF, IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT?!"

In the interests of never drip feeding, I am taking her to a concert on Sunday that wont finish til 10 with a 2 hour drive home. Which invalidates my position somewhat...

Is it close by?
If she gets to bed for 11 and can sleep till 8 it would be ok.

She has to get up at 6ish for school

We went to young voices and the coach arrived back 2am. He was still in school 8.45am

As a one off I'd allow it.

She's 12, its a one off, I'd let her go (but would quietly to myself judge parents having a party so late on a school night).

I suppose it depends on if she is good at going to bed late and getting up early. If she can manage it then fine. If she struggles then possibly not. I'd lean towards a yes myself.

YANBU to be wtf about it. Not sure who actually thinks it's a good idea to do a party on a school night.
I would actually check a. That it isn't an inset day the next day that you've missed or that the invite does have a mistake on it as in it should be Athe Fri not Thurs.
I would probably reluctantly allow my DD to attend if I were in your shoes but plan an early night on the Friday night. It is a one off and she'll feel terrible the next day if she doesn't go and they are all talking about it.

I'd be surprised if your 13yo is asleep by 10pm every night? Surely a one off won't hurt?

I would let my DD go, although I can't say that I would be happy about it.

What is the party? Is it a gig, or show, or something that has to be on that particular date rather than the weekend?

What time does she go to bed at?

TBH its a one of at this age, as she becomes older it will be regularly. I'd let her, you only live once.

My 13 year old wouldn't cope with such a late night followed by an early morning. I would only do it if the child could have an early night Friday and Saturday.

Ha ha ha least you've fessed up! Hope you're daughter has fun and at least you won't worry!

On another note I'm surprised how many people find it really late for a 12/13 year old what time do kids this age go to bed? Mine are littlies!!!

My 12yo is out 3 nights a week doing activities until 9.45-10pm. I would be a bit at a party but there's no difference really.

Chelazla - my 13yo Dd is in bed by 9 on weekdays, 9.30 at weekends.

If you're letting her stay up till midnight on Sunday, there is just no way you will be able to justify refusing to let her stay up till 10 on Thursday. Save yourself the argument and agree.
