to say no to this 13th birthday party invitation?

I've been handed a 13th birthday invitation by 12 year old DD, lovely.

Only its a 10pm finish, next Thursday. Which is a school night.

She'll hate me if I say no... But my gut is saying "WTAF, IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT?!"

In the interests of never drip feeding, I am taking her to a concert on Sunday that wont finish til 10 with a 2 hour drive home. Which invalidates my position somewhat...

And they are out of the house at 7.15 for school, no problem

You know your child

ChippyMinton · 16/11/2016 23:12

It's not unusually late for cadets, scouts type of thing.

clary · 16/11/2016 23:13

My DS2 is 13 and has activities that keep him out till 8/8.30/9.30 four nights a week.

On other nights he rarely goes to bed before 10pm tbh. I am always surprised at early bedtimes of teens posted on MN but assume they don't do Guides/Scouts/footy training/cricket matches etc as IME these often finish later than the suggested bedtime.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 16/11/2016 23:14

Is it an inset day?Grin

clary · 16/11/2016 23:15

x-post chippy - once the kids get to 10/11yo their activities get later cos the early slots are taken by the 8yos (eg Scouts starts at 7.30pm after Beavers finishes; footy is 8pm-9pm as other times are younger teams etc).

ChippyMinton · 16/11/2016 23:16

Mine seem to get by on 8 hours sleep a night, with the occasional weekend lie-in.

ElizaSchuyler · 16/11/2016 23:16

My 12 & 15 year old are both in bed by 9.30pm apart from show weeks (dd dances & DS does musical theatre)

The latest any regular activity ends is 8.45pm (singing group). Hockey training is Saturdsy mornings. Matches are Saturday's/Sunday's. Drama finishes at 7pm.

Yabu
It's one night

Notcontent · 16/11/2016 23:19

Chelazla - young teens still need about 10 hours of sleep a night or at least 9. My dd is still only 10 but she needs at least 10 hours of sleep or she is completely shattered. Sometimes she gets less but then she needs to catch up.

ComputerUserNumptyTwit · 16/11/2016 23:22

Well the INSET day revelation has totally pissed on my "AIBU?", "YABU" chips Grin

LilaTheLion · 16/11/2016 23:31

GiddyOnZackHunt · 16/11/2016 23:41

LilaTheLion · 16/11/2016 23:44

IMAGINE IF I'D SENT THE SLIGHTLY STROPPY TEXT I WAS PLANNING TO THE MOTHER?

But this is our secret. And newspapers are thread lifting wankers.

LaContessaDiPlump · 16/11/2016 23:50

Sorry but Grin at least now it's only vicarious shame rather than actual real shame!!

Greengoddess12 · 16/11/2016 23:53

Hilarious op that would be me getting it mixed up too Grin

LilaTheLion · 17/11/2016 00:02

It's all fine. No one needs to know. I'll breezily say "yes of COURSE you can go darling" to DD in the morning. BREEZY.

Love you to bits Lila Wine

Ohyesiam · 17/11/2016 00:05

My 12 year old DD does Scouts every Mon, and gets in at 10. So it seemsx quite normal to me.

LilaTheLion · 17/11/2016 00:13

I didn't even have the sense to post in Chat where I usually do for disappearing purposes so I'll forever be That Unreasonable Woman Who Doesn't Know When the Inset Days Are.

Forever.
