to say no to this 13th birthday party invitation?

LilaTheLion · 16/11/2016 22:37

I've been handed a 13th birthday invitation by 12 year old DD, lovely.

Only its a 10pm finish, next Thursday. Which is a school night.

She'll hate me if I say no... But my gut is saying "WTAF, IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT?!"

In the interests of never drip feeding, I am taking her to a concert on Sunday that wont finish til 10 with a 2 hour drive home. Which invalidates my position somewhat...

No one needs to know. Just you and the other 987,721 mnetters Grin.

MycatsaPirate · 17/11/2016 00:27

Just imagine if you'd dragged her out of bed on Friday morning and sent her to school. Which was closed.

Brilliant :o

TrillKitten · 17/11/2016 00:39

Best thread ever. Thank you SO MUCH for being totally honest. This is exactly the kind of thing I would do!! :D

KickAssAngel · 17/11/2016 00:47

Think of it another way, you'll forever be known as that clever woman who checked on MN first before being unreasonable in RL.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/11/2016 00:55

You are a bit unreasonable. I could understand if it were on till 1am, but. It finishes at 10. She can be in bed by 11,and Its not like parties happen every night. The world is going to stop turning over one late night

GiddyOnZackHunt · 17/11/2016 01:02

And a spot of rtft for good measure Grin

Peanutandphoenix · 17/11/2016 01:12

Haha lmao OP am glad you thought to check that it was an inset day the day after the party before you said no to your DD and dragged her out of bed for school on Friday.

VladimirsPooTin · 17/11/2016 01:40

Better to know now than send your child off to school on that day!

Redglitter · 17/11/2016 02:01

Awwlook You might want to read the whole thread

kali110 · 17/11/2016 02:16

What were you going to text the other mom op? Wink

Bogeyface · 17/11/2016 02:50

I forgot one the week before last and cheerfully took the kids to school....and not so cheerfully brought them home again Blush

MermaidTears · 17/11/2016 02:55

Even if it wasn't inset I would say lighten up. Blimey. I'm genuinely surprised at how much of a deal people make of 10pm....
You only live once. Just not s big deal.

ZanyMobster · 17/11/2016 06:44

This has made me chuckle as obviously everything is now fine but I am astonished that anyone would think a 10pm finish for a 12 yo as a one off us too late. We took DS1 when he was 9 to see a gig and got back at nearly 2am and he survived the Friday at school, it was a special thing for him and he just had an early night the next night.

Even our kids school have an annual event that's compulsory from Y2 which finishes at 930. It's just one night.

LilaTheLion · 17/11/2016 06:54

What were you going to text the other mom op?

I was carefully crafting a just the right level of surprised "has there been a printing error? That's a SCHOOL night?!" sort of text.

I was struggling a bit, which is why I asked...

SoupDragon · 17/11/2016 07:21

Onthe plus side' at least you nowknow theres aninset day :o

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 17/11/2016 07:28

Have you cancelled the cheque yet OP? Grin

It's very rare a thread actually makes me snigger out loud, but this one has! Probably because it's the kind of thing I would do too Blush

RhiWrites · 17/11/2016 08:12

That's brilliant! But you've deprived the other mum of the chance to text back "have you had a calendar malfunction? That's an INSET day!"

LilaTheLion · 17/11/2016 08:21

That's true Rhi. But I'm glad I've given 987,721 mumsnetters a chance to feel slightly superior and more organised about inset days (apart from Bogeyface, obviously) rather than just one mum that I've never met so couldn't be so directly smug.

I like to think I'm a giver.

OP posts:
paxillin · 17/11/2016 08:27

Make that 987,720. I had mine dressed in uniform on Inset day before. Realised on the way.

Saucery · 17/11/2016 08:32

Ha, I would have immediately have said "No way! School the next day!" and have to be told by said 12 yr old my calendar skills were deficient.

mrssprout · 17/11/2016 08:49

I have made my daughter walk up the road to catch the train in uniform only to have her reappear a short while after to say a teacher had seen her near the station & pulled her car over to call out & tell her it was teachers only that day ..... oops Blush

burninglikefire · 17/11/2016 08:52

Hi, I have done the opposite and once (by mistake) kept my kids off school for a non-existent inset day - we did have a good time though Smile

MistressMolecules · 17/11/2016 08:54

I would allow it as a one off. However, my just turned 14 year old doesn't go to sleep often until midnight (we have lights out at 9.30). I would insist on an earlier night on the Wednesday and an earlier night on the Friday.

HummusForBreakfast · 17/11/2016 09:04
Grin

I wouood have done what Saucery said and told NO to dc immediately.

And yes I would then have been told off by my 13yo. Big way!

Better than sending a text to the other mum though...

NorksAreMessy · 17/11/2016 09:22

I think I love you Grin
