I'm convinced I never saw any of the abominations above on MN a decade ago, even a fecking year ago. Now popping up like a persistent bloody virusHmmAngry

Just me or should I get my coat?

Oh, and another thing, if folks must use it, why the fuck do they I swear we are being infiltrated spell 'hon' as 'hun'?

There is a big difference between someone choosing to write gawjus and people with genuine learning difficulties. It is the making up of new words and deliberately misspelling words. I agree re draw and drawer and your and you're, there/they're/their, to me that is so basic I fail to see how people get it wrong. It IS the dumbing down and acceptance of it all as wonderfulworld said. Why is it elitist to want people to write properly? Not everyone that gets it wrong has a disability. A lot of it is laziness and simply that they do not care.

I just have to say I can't stand the use of ect as an abbreviation of etcetera - its etc!

BIWI · 16/11/2016 20:51

greengoddess - other people may have drawn those conclusions. I didn't. I have owned the fact that it irritates me. No judgement. And it's insulting to say that I have done.

JunosRevenge · 16/11/2016 20:55

Coldysack Grin

ghostyslovesheets · 16/11/2016 20:57

I DO know on the whole - I just have a learning disability that means I have to fucking proof read everything because as I write or type it looks fine but re reading it it's shit - I refuse to go through that every time I post on MN

I became so paranoid about being viewed as thick it really had an impact on my self esteem in my 20's - I hated being asked to write up group stuff on flip chart paper for example

Now at 46 I couldn't give a tiny rats wank - I tell everyone I'll write it up but It wont be good and they can accept that or get another scribe and I know I am intelligent and capable and bloody good at my job (which I needed a masters degree for btw)

But I bet there are lots of 20 something me's posting on MN I think some people take spiteful pleasure in putting them down for getting a word wrong - and how that might make them feel

We are supposed to be inclusive - and that covers ALL disabilities including learning ones!

ghostyslovesheets · 16/11/2016 21:00

Not everyone that gets it wrong has a disability. A lot of it is laziness and simply that they do not care

well if you can tell the difference by reading a post on MN that's great - but in case you can't maybe just think about the impact of pointing out their error

LadyStoic · 16/11/2016 21:08

OP here. Sorry to have been quiet but have been engulfed in a battery of fucking invasive and traumatising medical tests vis matters of chronic disability. And no, the irony of the abuse levelled at me by 'some' posters is not lost on me.Angry

Patently my post was NOT remotely vis folks for whom English is a second language, nor vis folks with any kind of learning impediment or disabilist in any way. It was, uber fucking clearly, regarding a creeping trend observed (on FB et al as well as here). And that's pretty bloody obvious so if you want to vent at the world then do, but don't stupidly direct your ire at me; especially in the form of arrogant assumption translated into personal attack directed at me and my children. WTAF?

So fuck right off with the personal attacks that I'm 'vile', 'cuntish', and all the rest of the manner of things that have been levelled at me in my absence. No wonder JustineMNHQ put out the statement she did; it seems there are those who want to - and will - attempt to twist anything to their own agenda.

And no, my children are not 'bullies' (how very fucking dare you); not even the one who is dyslexic... Hmm

Will post again tomm when the pain I'm in from procedures has subsided and the meds have worn off. And thank fuck for opiates as suspect they've taken the edge off of my - pretty measured, given the bile levelled at me - response.

OP posts:
Greengoddess12 · 16/11/2016 21:38

ghosty said it all really.

Greengoddess12 · 16/11/2016 21:45

Meds? Hmm

Op sorry you are ill and hope you feel better soon however that's not really the point is it.

At 9.30 last night you posted that mumsnet had been invaded by those who couldn't spell and invited others to join in and gloat at the stupidity too.

You got equally supported and flamed.

What did you expect.

Greengoddess12 · 16/11/2016 21:48

And I didn't call you vile or cuntish I think pointing out grammar and spelling mistakes to other posters is vile and cuntish.

I didn't say you did but if you do, and people do on here, well that's for them.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 16/11/2016 21:53

A new one! thread I started isn't going my way but I can flame everyone and be a complete arse because I'm on opiates don't you know.

Quietlygoingmad67 · 16/11/2016 21:54

OP Im sorry you've had a bad day and hope you are recovered from today's investigations quickly.

*how we have an education system that makes school mandatory until 16 and yet people can't fucking spell'

This is a direct quote from you last night so I'm assuming your dyslexic
child can spell then!!! Confused

Lollollollol · 16/11/2016 21:57

I'm crap at English but I'm not thick Hmm. How rude to suggest I am. I can do all sorts of things that I think are easy but that some other people find difficult such as plumbing, car repair, woodwork, sewing, computing, cooking and sports. If I was an arrogant and rude arse then I'd say that people who can't do these things are thick. However, I'm a bit classier than that and don't need to try and put other people down to make myself feel better.

RebelRogue · 16/11/2016 22:00

I'm an ex hun and English is my second language. I get the rage at everything mentioned here, especially words that have completely different meanings like "brought" and "bought".

Greengoddess12 · 16/11/2016 22:06

Meds and math make me laugh as my kids say both. Grin

Teeth don't itch though. Catch up Tomm Hmm

Salmotrutta · 16/11/2016 22:09

Calm down OP.

You lit the blue touch paper.

You absolutely knew how this would go ... Hmm

I hate "Makes my teeth itch"
I just doesn't happen.

Kettle/ Black OP. There are lots of annoying things folks say.

Lollollollol · 16/11/2016 22:24

LadyStoic. I hadn't actually noticed it was you that started this OP but having read your latest post I recognized your 'unique' posting style.Hmm

Have you any idea how pompous you sound?

Greengoddess12 · 16/11/2016 22:34

tomm could be the opiates though.

ArmySal · 16/11/2016 22:57

Don't be so dramatic, LadyS, you started a potentially contentious thread in AIBU.

You must have realised there would be differing opinions.

Not sure if it's the opiates or not, but your latest post is the most bile filled on the thread. Hope you're in a better mood tomm.

twatbag · 16/11/2016 23:06

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Greengoddess12 · 16/11/2016 23:14

Maybe At 9.36 last night it was best to rest before a battery of invasive tests rather than post

cantmakeme · 16/11/2016 23:14

It's odd actually, at school I don't recall the could of / could have thing ever being mentioned (finished school 20 yrs ago). My dad would notice and correct us though, so perhaps schooling has changed (in terms of the rules of grammar, times tables and so on being drummed into children).
