To ask if the salary offered is crap, reasonable, or good?

I've been out of work for so long bringing up the family and have lost touch with all reality

It seems that to talk about money amongst friends is not the done thing, and I can't seem to find out how the salary offered compares to others in my area

Don't want to go into too much detail for fear of outing myself, but after deductions I will take home £350 a week for almost full time, 5 days a week Monday to Friday. Does it sound like not a lot, or OK?

I live in the north east if it helps.

It really depends on what the job is. Sounds like about 24 grand a year?

There are so many variables here, it's impossible to say.

Do the maths, then look online to see what the average salary is for that sort of role.

It really depends on what your job is! And surely what matters is if that is enough for you? Can you afford to live on that/are you happy to do the work for that amount etc?

Nobody will be able to say unless you give an indication of the type of job it is, industry and skills required!

If its weekly, then your per annum wage (assuming you get paid 52 weeks of the year) will be £18,200 take home, it depends on the job and qualifications/experience as to whether the salary is reasonable.

Echoing others - impossible to say. If a pp is right and it's £24,000 a year, that's crap for some jobs, reasonable for others, and good for others.

As others have said it's really hard to know with this info. What's the yearly salary? Or is it paid per hour? Are deductions just basic tax and NI?

That sounds very reasonable but like ithers have said, does depend on what the job entails, is it specialist? I think 350 after stoppages is very fine, it does depend on you whether its ok though - how many children? Could you pay the mortgage etc? Overall I'd call it very reasonable though

Its all relative OP. If that is all that is on offer, then whether its great or crap its all that there is on offer. You say you've been out of work for a long time so I don't think you have much choice probably but personally I wouldn't work for that amount, even after an extended career break unless it was something I loved or felt was very worthwhile. The rule of thumb I've always had is that you don't do any job unless you are learning something from it (ie. getting somewhere else by doing it), loving it, or getting well paid for it. The ideal would be all three but you need at least one of those to justify doing a job. But I have always had the luxury of having the choice to do a job or not. Many people are not so lucky and simply need the money.

I think £350 take home pay in the north east is great esp as you've been our of job market a while. I'm in the same position same area and I'm looking at £7.20 an hour

Salary woudl be considered 'good' if it is a higher amount than is typical for the type of job and hours worked. Since you have given no information on that no once can tel you.

What is the job?
What qualifications/experience does the job require?
What are the contracted hours?
Will you be expected to work unpaid overtime?
What is the gross amount?

Wages in the NE aren't great. £350 a week I would personally be very happy with but obviously it really depends on the job and the skill level.

there is a website you could look at, it's called glassdoor, not all job types and companies are on there but you could generalise the search on it to see how you fare against others in similar roles in the same area?

I have a job in the south and that's better than my pay (after tax NI etc)

How on earth do you think anyone could answer that without knowing what the role is?!

We'd also need to know your tax code etc as well as what the job was & how many hours per week it is (full time can be anything between 35-45 hours plus really.

I work in payroll & £350 per week take home is about standard for lower grade jobs.

The Salary Calculator suggests that £22k a year gives you £348.60 a week. That's without any contributions to pension/student loan etc

Like the others have said, for a full time retail job in the NE this is probably good, for a solicitor it isn't.

Well, I'd be v happy with that.
Never earned that much.
But yes.. depends on the job.
If it was, say, retail or temping, that would be a very good salary.

As a first job back, after being out of the workforce for years, it sounds fine.
