To not understand what Laurie Love's Aspergers has to do with his extradition

Not an autism bashing thread please.

But he is a political activist. He knew what he was doing and that it was wrong.

If 10 year olds who know the difference between right and wrong can be held criminally responsible why can't he?

He caused damage and expense to the US government so he should pay for it like anyone else.

He may be a suicide risk but so are many people in jail.

Surely his Aspergers is irrelevant?

Lord Justice bakers report on the standard of proof required for extraditions in both directions was the report which found the standard of proof was broadly similar whether it was UK to US or vice Versa. I don't know if there was any reason for bias in that report though.

Its the US Embassy in the UK site, so written from the perspective of the US.

The report found that the standard of proof was broadly similar in the sense that both the US and UK officially have similar burdens of proof before a prosecution can go ahead but the US only needs to present its proof to its Grand Jury, and that is kept secret. The UK has to present its proof to the US. That is a vast difference.

The Times has come out in support of Lauri, which is nice

Gutted, I am extremely sorry to hear of your brother's situation and admire your courage commenting here. I've just joined Mumsnet, and came to this article.

As a parent of an Asperger child myself, I wrote to my MP in October asking if he could lobby to prevent your brother's extradition. He wrote back with details of the legal process underway. However, he can't directly intervene in the legal process.

Our home secretary was reported to have said "her hands were tied", when she signed the extradition papers. In my opinion, this is disgraceful; we tie ourselves in legal knots to prevent ourselves from making humane decisions which we know are right.

I do hope that your brother's application to the High Court to appeal against the decisions of both District Judge and Secretary of State, is granted. Best wishes.
