To suspect my nanny is drugging my child?

I have a nanny for my son who is now eighteen months old, she has been with us since he was ten months old. I recently noticed that the level of the emergency bottle of Calpol had gone down dramatically and I know we have not given him any. I put a mark on the bottle to see if it would go down any further, and sure enough, it has. She is the only other person in the house. Is it possible for Calpol to evaporate over time, or is she giving it to him and not telling me/writing it in the book? If so, would IBU to sack her on the spot for endangering his health, in that we could have come home from work and given him another dose without realising? I suppose she could be taking it herself, at a stretch - I just think this is a pretty serious allegation and I don't want to upset the relationship by suggesting she is giving it to him if it can just dry up anyway?

Is he unwell at the moment or anything else which would indicate the requirement of paracetamol?

It's Calpol not cocaine - why don't you just ask her and remind her to write it in the book.

Why is it likely that an adult would be drinking Calpol?

It does sound as though she's giving it more frequently than she's telling you, OP. I would be worried about this.

Couldn't you just calmly ask her if she's given any to your child before you make a drama out of it? If so, ask why. If not then a further explanation is required.

No, he is not unwell, and I've made it clear that if she wants to give him medicine she should check with me first.

I'd gladly have her beheaded, who do I call?! I pay her top whack and am both shocked and hurt she could be risking my son's health like this - I know it's only Calpol but I only noticed recently and unless it's dried up she has given him the best part of a bottle without me knowing, I don't understand why?

Calpol is a really, really weak paracetamol. There's nothing else in it. He wouldn't be "drugged" as such even if she'd given him the whole bottle!

Unless your ds is in pain, why would she give it to him?

It should be written up though.

You need to just ask her.

Actually it's not JUST Calpol. Overuse of paracetamol over time can lead to a build-up in the child's organs.

It's something I would want to know about, not least should you wish to give him some yourself and double up unawares...

I've spilled more calpol than I've dispensed. One bottle in 8 months wouldn't have got us through teething either...

You should have a day book with everything like that written down. If she's not been liaising about doses your baby could end up overdosed. But I bet she's swigging it herself. You are going to have to ask her what's going on.

It wouldn't evaporate like that over time, especially not in a bottle.

where's the spoon? Is there a sticky residue on it? Is she 100% that she should fill the paperwork in if she gives him any? What timescale are we talking for the medicine to have gone below the mark you made?

Honestly I'd probably have a hard conversation and move from there. It's easy for me to say from over here though, so good luck.

Or remove the Calpol from the house. If she was giving it without your permission why would she do it so obviously? If a nanny wanted to drug a child they'd probably have their own stash..

My DH takes calpol if the paracetamol tablets are finished. As a grown up, a bottle only contains a few doses. Maybe she or your DH or cleaner take it.

You are right that I need to ask her, and of course, I will, I just wanted to be sure it wasn't a well known thing that Calpol dries up if you don't use it.

Given that this is the last of a long line of things she has done that go against what I have asked her, we will have to part ways I think.
