"Hacked off"

"Tear him a new one"

I've never heard one person in real life use either of those and to be honest, I'm glad! They're the ugliest phrases ever!

Tear him a new one is particularly disgusting.

AIBU to ask you to share yours? Either things you don't hear in real life or things you hate but only encounter here?

Worra 'The patriarchy'

Oh lord yes, I don't know anyone who seriously uses this in real life!

Also, loudly proclaiming 'I'm Spartacus'. Suuurrrreee.

Nanny0gg · 06/11/2016 14:41

'Peace and Love' is used ironically so I don't have a problem.

'Bunfight' has been used for years and years. It's not new.

'Hacked off' and 'Tear him a new one' I've certainly heard (must be the circles I mix in...)

'What an Arse' - see above Blush

HurricaneHighVolume5 · 06/11/2016 14:42

'Some one will be along in a minute'

I don't know why but it makes me cringe

FlapsTie · 06/11/2016 14:42

I use 'the Patriarchy' often in rl.

And 'arse'.

And probably lots of other MNisms.

WorraLiberty · 06/11/2016 14:45

'Toxic' when describing anything other than chemicals.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone in RL say they have a toxic relationship, or a certain person is toxic.

It just reminds me of Britney Spears.

Cocolepew · 06/11/2016 14:46

Not my circus, not my monkeys.

MetallicBeige · 06/11/2016 14:46

Lundy Bumcrack is a man???

I have been mis-gendering him all this time. 😮😮😮

MetallicBeige · 06/11/2016 14:48

"He / she is a narcissist."

"Get your ducks in a row."

Ginslinger · 06/11/2016 14:48

we used to use bun fight about 40 year ago but it was usually to describe some sort of social event where diverse groups of people were brought together such as weddings etc

Bluntness100 · 06/11/2016 14:48

Not my circus, not my monkeys.

thatstoast · 06/11/2016 14:49

I've used Patriarchy at least twice in the last week.

I'm pretty sure more people don't use it because we live in a patriarchal society.

Obviously I don't say I am Spartacus in real life as the context is very mn specific. I sometimes say I am Brian and so is my wife

Rachel0Greep · 06/11/2016 14:49

'Stabby' - I learned that on MN. I like it Blush.

Ginslinger · 06/11/2016 14:49

I think I've heard 'tear him a new one' in american films - I always imagine someone like Sean Penn saying it

CurtainsforRonnie · 06/11/2016 14:51

Go figure.

x2boys · 06/11/2016 14:54

'going no contact' nobody i know would say they are going 'no contact' they may choose not to see a relative or friend for whatever reason but they dont call it 'no contact'

CoffeeAndOranges · 06/11/2016 14:54

Never hear or see things being described as 'vile' or 'odd' except on MN. Odd especially- when a MNer says a particular behaviour is 'odd' they generally mean 'I don't approve of this behaviour, I think they are wrong'.

paxillin · 06/11/2016 14:54

"Am I being unreasonable?"

SausageSoda · 06/11/2016 14:56

Narcissistic must be one of the most overused words on MN.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/11/2016 14:58

Oh yes - Spartacus and patriarchy

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 06/11/2016 15:01

I use lots of these expressions but have never heard anyone saying 'hurrah!' in RL, only on here and in Enid Blyton books.

Bun fight is part of standard English usage. Been around for years! It's nothing to do with MN.

SausageSoda · 06/11/2016 15:02

LTB.

YoHoHoandabottleofTequila · 06/11/2016 15:02

Tinkly laugh. Hmm

PavlovianLunge · 06/11/2016 15:05

rawsienna, an American friend recently told me that they say this, and the full version is 'I could care less, but I can't be bothered', which makes a bit more sense, I suppose.

I use 'I couldn't care less' way too much.
