To be hacked off that I have been judged for shopping in m&s?

After finishing a night shift this morning popped into M&S for some shopping for me and DP...parking was near, I couldn't be arsed to fight my way around Asda, Sainsbury's etc... I came out with about 4 bags and quite a few of their 3 for £10 offers on food and 3 for £7 along with some fruit etc.. for my packed lunches. I work hard for my money and am not afraid to grab a bargain in other supermarkets it was just that I wanted the quickness of this store and fancied treating myself too. I came out with my shopping and bumped into friends daughter ..she looks at my shopping bags and has a sarcastic grin on her face saying 'oh marks' I say yes I couldn't be arsed to go to Asdas etc just finished work wanna get home...well she said if that was me I'd walk to Asda's to save myself ALL that money hitching judge pants to under chin AIBU to think that a friends DD (aged 30) who will only wear Dune shoes and who's DH and her both have good jobs should not piss me off big time have to judge where I chose to shop?? As long as you bought some individual Colins its fine to stop in M&S. You did buy Colins didn't you OP?

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/11/2016 04:48

Well good for her and her judgy knickers. She's :30 so still young and sprightly, doesn't have an adult daughter, who needs specialist care (that's what I'm deducing from your post), doesn't work nights etc etc. Give me m&s over Asda any day although I don't shop there either as we get online deliveries these days. I tried to do a food shop in a massive Asda once. They didn't have all the stuff I wanted. Not enough real food and too many food like products. I don't eat ready made meals.

BusterGonad · 06/11/2016 04:59

I don't think it's anything to do with your friends daughter, I think you're very tired OP and a bit emotional, you've obviously had a tough ride lately and someone has made a comment which I'm guessing would normally be shrugged off. If I were you I'd sit down have a cuppa, eat M&S shortbread and Percy Pigs and don't give a F about that silly mare.

GizmoFrisby · 06/11/2016 05:51

There's nowt as queer as folk!

I've actually gone off m&s food, I don't think it's any expensive than Asda. I find Asda expensive. I shop at Sainsbury's.

Topseyt · 06/11/2016 08:43

You should have told her that M & S sell a great line in judgy pants / knickers in their lingerie department and offered to buy her some for Christmas.

NicknameUsed · 06/11/2016 08:49

"M&S and ASDA are both equally grim though"

Now who is being judgy?

I don't understand the MN snobbery about Asda. I don't usually shop there because it just isn't convenient. My most convenient supermarkets are Tesco and Morrisons.

Why did you feel the need to justify your shopping habits to her? That's a bit odd. When she commented "ooh marks", I don't think it was a remark along the lines of "why on earth did you go in there and not Asda?!" Maybe I'm wrong... But you should just have said "yeah, went in for a few bits. Love me some 3 for £10 deals." Or whatever.

Basicbrown · 06/11/2016 08:53

With all due respect op if you were a toddler I would say you are 'overtired' Grin. She sounds irritating though, no more or less.

80sWaistcoat · 06/11/2016 08:54

M & s has the best veg where I live. So it's a saving buying it there as it doesn't turn to mush overnight......

Forget it...

Woollymammoth63 · 06/11/2016 08:57

whats the problem?
I shop in lidl and m&s

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/11/2016 08:59

Asda don't sell as many basic foods as their competitors. It's not a a judgment, it's a fact. I only know this as I said, because when I went in there to buy something else, thOught I'd pick up a few bits at the same time and couldn't get what I wanted to buy because they didn't stock the food I wanted.

dontbesillyhenry · 06/11/2016 09:01

Last time I shopped at Asda a kid if abouf four called my 11 year old a fat slag Angry

Temporaryname137 · 06/11/2016 09:07

Fuck that reverse snobbery. M&S food is nicer than most places. If she doesn't want it - more for you! And me! Grin

NicknameUsed · 06/11/2016 09:09

"Asda don't sell as many basic foods as their competitors."

That hasn't been my experience. What sort of basic foods are you talking about?

Bluntness100 · 06/11/2016 09:12

I think you're being over sensitive, she was probably just teasing. Plus there is a kinda weird inverted snobbery going on there in terms of it being more admirable to shop at Asda.

I mean really who cares where you shop...

SoftSheen · 06/11/2016 09:13

YANBU. Marks is hardly Fortnum & Masons.

We have an Asda and an M&S next door to each other. I often go to both, getting household stuff, nappies, veg etc from Asda and nice meat and fruit from M&S.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 06/11/2016 09:14

I'm judging M&S purely on the basis of the hype surrounding Percy Pigs.

Plasticine. I ate Plasticine.

Skittlesss · 06/11/2016 09:15

maybe she didn't know what to say to you so commented on your shopping? We can't really say why she said it as we don't know you or your lifestyle. Shop where you like though. I'm a bit of a slut and go to different places for different things.

Pistachiois50pmore · 06/11/2016 09:17

This is the most Victoria Wood thing I've ever read.

Why oh why do you even care? I don't understand this reverse snobbery attitude, it's a "thing" to shop exclusively in Asda or Lidl. Really, who cares? I can shop in Asda or Aldi just as much as Harrods food hall, and if anyone judges me because of that, they are pathetic and really should get a life.

Funnyface1 · 06/11/2016 09:21

This is really making me fancy a trip to m and s. Also noblegiraffe 😂😂

coconutpie · 06/11/2016 09:22

You brought it on yourself tbh - you shouldn't have explained why you were shopping in m&s, you should've said "yes, the food there is just so good", not some answer back about Asda as that gave her fuel then.

I love M&S. The food is just so damn good!
