To shout out of my window at these twats? (With diagram)

Ok, now I've calmed down.

On my way to pick my daughter up from nursery. I'm driving slowly anyway around the corner obviously, maybe 10mph.

There's a blunt corner and as I come around the corner about 4 people just walk across it - thankfully I was going slowly and was able to break in time.

I shouted out of my window 'there's a crossing right there - use it!'.

I heard back 'You have to stop anyway you twat!'.

As I turned around the corner the lights were turning amber so yes, I would have had to stop but surely crossing the middle of the road on a corner is really dangerous?

The group of them were laughing and thought it was quite funny but im failing to see what is funny?

Diagram attached as I am not good at explaining!

Well yes they do sound like knob heads and a corner is not a great choice for crossing the road. However, a pedestrian already in the road does have right of way over vehicles (not sure if they were already actually in the road when you saw them or not)

You should always be able to stop safely in the distance you can see ahead in case of this very situation.

LauLau93 · 02/11/2016 13:52

They were indeed knobs.

MakeItStopNeville · 02/11/2016 13:56

Lol at the drawing of the knobs!

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/11/2016 13:56

At 10mph the stopping distance is just a few m's, so either you were going a lot faster (most likely, drivers tend to under-estimate speed) or are over-dramatizing the danger.

YWBU to shout a completely unrelated thing about crossings, a warning to watch out their are speeding drivers around might've been appropriate - but probably not - people don't have to use crossings, they are there to make it possible for those who need them.

Next time, walk or cycle to pick up your daughter from nursery or avoid driving in areas with shops where pedestrians are very likely to be.

icy121 · 02/11/2016 13:59

Morons. Next time knock em over.

We were on our way to a hospital appointment after nursery. Usually we walk.

I was definitely going at a slow speed, I've lived in this town for 25yrs - this is a very well known knob spot Grin

This has really made me laugh for a variety of obvious reasons but has really cheered me up, thank you Grin

They are massive knobbers. The crossing is set back so it is easier for you to see them when turning a corner and safer for everyone. Vent your fury for you are righteous

YANBU although I am not sure we want the robust approach to Jaywalking they apply in some US States -

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2016 14:06

We have a spot like this near us- you turn off the main road through a light controlled junction but folk just saunter across the road right at the turning point and you can't see them easily due to parked cars. We even get folk standing in the middle of the road taking photos because it's got a good view.

The pedestrians might have technical right of way but it's a moot point if you cross in such a stupid place that the person driving a 1 ton box of metal can't stop in time.

Isitlunchtimeyet · 02/11/2016 14:20

"Knobs" made me lol

griffinsss · 02/11/2016 14:22

Absolutely love your diagram, OP Grin - exactly the kind of thing I would have done. You're right, though, they sound like total knobs

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 02/11/2016 14:25

This is why I don't drive, waitrose. Have seen too many obnoxious twats walking in front of cars and had a thousand mini heart attacks. Plus, I have a shorter fuse than you....

lovelynannytobe · 02/11/2016 14:27

I see this sort of thing happening every day on a school run ... however these are not just ordinary knobs ... these are knobby mothers dragging their kids across the road because they are to lazy to walk up 10 more meters to cross at the light controlled crossing. They think they are in the right and are very aggressive towards the drivers who swerve/ suddenly stop or hoot at them. One of those days I will break inside and run out into the road dragging the knob back to the pavement by her hair ...

Excellent thread.

Parking/driving+pedestrian crossing +diagram with the chance of bun fight.

I hate it YANBU.

The ones that can't wait at Red men especially piss me off.

Take a few seconds, don't spot me in the distance and try to beat me.

WaitrosePigeon · 02/11/2016 14:30

not just ordinary knobs

Grin

It's scary also. Thankfully I was going slowly - it may not be me next time!

I didn't think of that! After the school run this afternoon I'm sure this thread will be a mess Grin

There aren't jaywalking laws in the uk so people can cross where they like. If you shout at someone you do have to expect them to shout back. So meh.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/11/2016 14:32

Yabu to have only drawn 2 knobs. You said there were 4. Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 02/11/2016 14:33

In actual fact, upon reflection I think there were 5 knobs Shock

Not sure if that will be much consolation, Janice, if OP has hit them and run them over Hmm. Does that mean that any pedestrian can just run into the road to cross any stupid place they like, safe in the knowledge that they have 'right of way'? That's insane.

You should always be able to stop safely in the distance you can see ahead in case of this very situation.

What if OP doesn't have the ability to see ROUND CORNERS?

NKFell · 02/11/2016 14:35

I love the drawing OP- especially "knobs" Grin Grin

You should do a draw my life video...sorry, bit of topic...

Yes, they're knobs! Continue shouting at them and drawing diagrams

KidLorneRoll · 02/11/2016 14:39

"What if OP doesn't have the ability to see ROUND CORNERS?"

Well, quite obviously, if you can't see round a corner you slow down. You should always be going slowly enough to be able to stop on the road you can see - which in the OP case it seems they were, so all in all a bit of a non-event.
