To be really scared by this Sun headline.

I've just had an awful scare and I'm so frightened, need calming down. Just scrolling down Facebook and there's a Sun headline....Nuclear war could be imminent, troops sent near to Russian border. It's so so scary.

OP posts:
CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 27/10/2016 21:27

"But even before the break down of the Syrian ceasefire, Russian President Vladimir Putin suspended a treaty with Washington on cleaning up weapons-grade plutonium, signalling he was willing to use nuclear disarmament as a new bargaining chip in disputes with the United States over Ukraine and Syria."

Using nuclear disarmament as a bargaining tool is one thing - actually pushing the button is another. I'd like to think that even Putin would think twice before ending life as we know it.

Saying this, psychoanalysis of his behaviour is worrying.

pizzapop · 27/10/2016 21:27

Why would any sane person want to nuke the world though? Putin seems like he enjoys the finer things in life, he's not gonna give that up and go for life in the dark ages.

I tend to worry about this stuff furiously for like a day and then realise there's really no point and get over it. Grin

chickychickyparmparm · 27/10/2016 21:27

Does this help at all, OP?

www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/27/military-build-up-along-russias-border-no-cause-for-alarm

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 27/10/2016 21:28

You are being far too dramatic, OP. For a start, stop placing so much stock in junk that the Sun prints. It is NOT a newspaper that you can rely upon.

The threat of nuclear war has been hanging over all of our heads for decades. If it happens, there is nothing anyone can do.

SwedishEdith · 27/10/2016 21:29

Fear is the best way to keep the populace in order. The most revolutionary act you can make is to be fearless.

This. Think about it.

BowieFan · 27/10/2016 21:31

Uncle Rupert wants you scared, because that's how he likes it - so scared that you buy into his rubbish.

The Scum isn't even fit as toilet paper in this house. In fact, in the area I live, you can't even buy it and we successfully boycotted a local supermarket that tried to sell it.

I can't wait until that racist old coot dies, maybe we'll finally be free of his grip then.

BowieFan · 27/10/2016 21:32

And no, the world is not going to have nuclear war. Why? Because nobody is stupid enough. The minute anyone launches one, everyone else will. We'll all be dead and not even Kim Jong-un is stupid enough to wipe out the entire population of the planet.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 27/10/2016 21:33

OP, I suffer from anxiety so I try to avoid the mainstream press wherever possible. It's a dilemma because I want to know what's going on in the world, but at the same time, it heightens my issues. There was a study into the aftermath of the Boston marathon attacks, which showed that some people who had watched the television coverage showed worse PTSD symptoms than those who had been there on the day.

I think they described it as a 'self-perpetuating cycle of distress'. Regarding this story; it rolls around every few years and has done for decades. Doesn't make it any less frightening, I know. Personally, I'm more afraid of Hilary than Trump, and that's saying something.

LynetteScavo · 27/10/2016 21:33

But if there is about to be a nuclear war we may as well spend all our money now....which will boost our economy. And make it look
brexit hasn't had a negative impact.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/10/2016 21:33

When you consider believing anything in the Sun, remember Hillsborough.
Then use Murdoch's crap to wrap up your dog's crap

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 27/10/2016 21:33

I could kiss you right now, BowieFan. I agree wholeheartedly - fear mongering is the cornerstone of the Sun and the day that filth is discontinued cannot come soon enough.

hopetobehappy · 27/10/2016 21:34

chicky I darent click it on, can you just tell me briefly, but in a non alarmist way please?

OP posts:
ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 27/10/2016 21:34

Bowie said it better than my waffle!

Try reading a non-fiction newspaper in the future

This. No one else is saying it because it's utter tosh.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 27/10/2016 21:35

hopetobehappy just read the link, it is self explanatory - "No Cause for Alarm".

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 27/10/2016 21:36

Also bigchoc's Hillsborough comment. That, basically.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 27/10/2016 21:36

Rothschilds?

WTF?

PhoenixRisingSlowly · 27/10/2016 21:39

ItShouldHave why are you more worried about Hilary, out of genuine interest?

PacificDogwod · 27/10/2016 21:40

The world can be a scary place without the Sun and its ilk making profit from sensationalist headlines - pricks Hmm

OP, please seek some RL help to manage stress and anxiety.
We all have to live in the world as it is - you might as well not fear what is likely not to happen.

And for goodness sake, treat the Sun with the disdain it deserves!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 27/10/2016 21:40

The Rothschilds

Hmm

Care to expand on that!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 27/10/2016 21:41

Exactly Chardonnay

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 27/10/2016 21:42

Neither Clinton or Trump are good options for the US, but Clinton is by far the lesser of two evils. I cannot imagine the pompous, racist, sexist pig having free reign over the country, let alone access to launch codes.

Antifrank · 27/10/2016 21:42

I have a friend who is a Colonel in the Russian army, and he has warned me that they are likely to drop a nuclear bomb on London on Sunday, about 7:15. Right in the middle of Strictly. Apparently The Kremlin are concerned that Ed Balls may make it through to the following week.

hopetobehappy · 27/10/2016 21:43

I also worry about Hilary, she's said she's prepared to take Russia on. I'm dreading the US elections. Trump scares the hell out of me too.
