I've just had an awful scare and I'm so frightened, need calming down. Just scrolling down Facebook and there's a Sun headline....Nuclear war could be imminent, troops sent near to Russian border. It's so so scary.

How would worrying help?

Ivydalegirl · 27/10/2016 21:01

Yes you should be scared because Russia has the weapons to blow our country to smithereens (at least we won't know anything about it).
Be more afraid if Clinton gets in because she is a war monger and has made it clear she will have a contentious relationship with Russia. God help us all.

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 27/10/2016 21:04

I meant not just The Sun talking about troops. I doubt the idea of the Big Bang scenario of nuclear war is going to happen anytime soon, no one would surely be that stupid. However I do think we are in WW3 and it is escalating quickly. There are a few links to essays and articles on the MN thread I posted above which talk about the development of small nukes.

Pluto30 · 27/10/2016 21:04

Ivy Around 7 countries have nuclear weaponry, and 2 more are suspected to have nuclear weaponry. Russia and the US are not the only two.

girlinacoma · 27/10/2016 21:04

OP please try not to worry. This kind of posturing by world leaders happens all the time.

Tomorrow one of the Kardashians will flash her tits and the Sun will have a new headline. I promise Flowers

BitchQueen90 · 27/10/2016 21:05

The Sun. I would barely even consider it a "newspaper".

I don't see the point in worrying about these things. What good will that do? Just have a vino and chill.

girlinacoma · 27/10/2016 21:07

I didn't know that Pluto - I always assumed pretty much everyone had them.

Not sure whether to be reassured by that or not Sad

Ivydalegirl · 27/10/2016 21:08

But Russia and America are capable of making the biggest bangs!

BitchQueen90 · 27/10/2016 21:10

Putin has ridiculed the idea of Russia attacking anywhere.

Pluto30 · 27/10/2016 21:11

Well, the UK also has nuclear weaponry, so you're in a better position than some others.

And no, Ivy, they're no more capable than someone like China or the UK. Nuclear weaponry is nuclear weaponry. There is no "worse".

hopetobehappy · 27/10/2016 21:11

It's so provoking to Russia though isnt it, putting troops on their border in order to support Estonia.

chickychickyparmparm · 27/10/2016 21:12

I'm with Chardonney. Those are the issues that are going to have a massive impact in the next couple of decades.

TheNaze73 · 27/10/2016 21:13

Yes OP. It's very provocative towards Russia

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2016 21:13

Has Freddie Starr eaten any hamsters lately?

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 27/10/2016 21:16

Why are they doing it?

No troops will protect Estonia and it only serves the to give Putin an excuse to do some sabre rattling himself.

LynetteScavo · 27/10/2016 21:17

How old are you, OP?

I'm ancient and in the 80's I was convinced we're we're all going to be nuked and begged my parents to build a nuclear shelter. The happiest summer of my childhood I spend in a house in Switzerland which had a nuclear proof basement.

It's all very well saying nobody with any sense would want to use nuclear weapons...I believe Thatcher was tempted over the Falklands, but France prevented her...and Trump and Putin would happily do so if they thought it was for the greater good.

I don't believe anything I read in The Sun but the world of full of fuck wits who think nuclear weapons are a good idea. Look at how much this country spends on them. They're only a deterrent if we're prepared to push the button. Otherwise they're a bloody expensive ornament that isn't even on display.

Ivydalegirl · 27/10/2016 21:18

I'm not scared of nuclear war, it will come eventually. I just hope I don't survive one.

hopetobehappy · 27/10/2016 21:18

"Provoking to Russia"? Can't believe I just wrote that. That's how anxious I am.

myfamily6 · 27/10/2016 21:22

OlennasWimple · 27/10/2016 21:24

Keep Calm and Carry On, folks

hopetobehappy · 27/10/2016 21:25

I can't imagine Russia accepting thousands of Nato troops on its borders.
