Paying to use the lounge on an economy ticket is as sad as buying a gucci shoe box and putting your Clarks in it

People aren't actually paying to use the business of first class lounge. Its a separate lounge people pay to enter in order to make their wait more comfortable.

But there is one at Heathrow thats used by a few airlines for their bushiness class passengers, probably because they don't have enough flights departing daily or weekly in order to make having their own lounge cost effective. I think its the Servisair lounge.

Other airlines may put their first or business class passengers into a lounge belonging to another airline. So if for e.g. you're flying with Qatar Airways as a first class passenger you use the Virgin Clubhouse.

I don't think first is any different. I fly about 10 times.a month, first for work and business for my visits home. Can't see.much in it apart from on BA the seats are slightly less filthy than business. On Qatar which I usually go with, first just has slightly better seats and food and more rich unruly Arab kids. And as for Saudi first, nobody even sits down for take off

I think you're taking the mickey Wink

I really don't like the pay to enter lounges, we were given passes to one as part of our holiday once, it was like sitting in a slightly grotty hotel lobby.

There are lounges and there are lounges even as a passenger travelling first or business class. It can also very much depend on the region you are travelling in.

I think you are pretty selfish to expect her to travel economy just because the rest of you have to

On Saudi Airlines the kids run around the whole time. I fly with them a LOT! I work between 3 countries and have to go back home a couple of times a month to see my very ill father. And they don't always wake me up for landing, just leave the beds down Biscuit

BigGreenOlives · 28/10/2016 08:43

Ohdearme This one was at Gatwick. I can't remember which company ran it. We used to fly a lot and have life time BA Gold cards but you can only use those to enter a lounge if you are flying BA.

Hysterectical · 28/10/2016 08:46

The BA lounge at Heathrow is like a motorway welcome break. Qatar lounge at Heathrow is fab, I love the loccitane bathrooms. Worst is the Saudi one in Jeddah. That's like an unwelcome break.

Brighteyes27 · 28/10/2016 08:47

Mmm up to her I suppose but seems a strange thing to do. But wondering if you are all mums I have only ever had two nights away from my kids due to work so well in this country so well jel if you are off for a long haul holiday? Sounds a bit like she may have newly come into money and maybe showing off a little or is maybe struggling with the whole group holiday thing or a member of the group so the flight is maybe her little bit of selfish me time to make the holiday more tolerable. Unless she has a medical condition but I am sure she would have declared this.

ohdearme1958 · 28/10/2016 08:49

This one was at Gatwick

Ive only flown form there a few times and didn't use the lounge because it was straight off one plane and on to the next one.

I did laugh though a few years ago when my DIL was travelling back to her home country in EU and when she did a transfer the lounge she was directed to was basically a large room with camp beds in it. If you wanted to eat the Pizza place in the departure lounge would deliver a take away for you. Grin

Ahahahaha so true. You can spot the wannabe high flyers a mile off.

Hysterectical · 28/10/2016 09:20

Does one have to declare medical conditions to friends??? Jesus, my friends barely acknowledge new babies or husbands Grin

BARB060609 · 28/10/2016 09:43

It would annoy me to be honest but as previous posters have said she will be the one sat on her own (albeit in luxury!) whilst the rest of you are having a laugh together at the beginning of your holiday.

Strange that a friend would choose to sit separately, does she have a bad back or anything that would make her significantly uncomfotable in economy seats?

BanjoStarz · 28/10/2016 11:33

I think (and I've not read the full thread so apologies if it's already been mentioned) the flight wouldn't bother me so much.

But a first class ticket will get you into the lounges at Dubai/Singapore/wherever your stop is...and the rest of you won't be able to get in.

So is she going to be in the lounge on her own? Or wondering around the terminal with the rest of you? The decision there would determine whether I was pissed or not to be honest!
