This MN trend of sneering at posters for using a common term that has been deemed unfashionable...but only on mumsnet...is boring, childish and bloody rude.
If you had a go at someone for using it in rl you'd look like a dick.

See I really don't have any feelings about it. It absolutely does make people look like dicks when they pull people up on using it. I think its really rude and uncalled for. In fact the irrational annoyance of alot of posters to the word, has actually warmed me to it slightly. I will not have anyone tell me what words I am or am not allowed to use.

It makes me cringe but if people want to use it then that's completely up to them. I don't like it but I couldn't get worked up enough to comment on someone else using it on MN.

The only people I know who use "hubby" in RL are also the type who refer to themselves as "yummy mummies" and use the word "Hun" a lot.

Hubby isn't quite as bad as hubs or, even worse, hubz!

Don't get me wrong, 'hubby' 'hun' 'bubs' etc do make me cringe.

But I just pull my big girl's pants up and deal with it.

I think posters are rude to pull others up for using these words.

They don't own Mumsnet and it really has bugger all to do with them if newbies want to use these words.
