The Duke of York wants his daughters to be full time Royals?

www.express.co.uk/news/royal/724136/prince-andrew-requests-princesses-beatrice-eugenie-kensington-prince-charles-queen-william

This is a Sunday Express link, not a Fail one.

So Andrew wants both of his daughters to have full time royal roles funded by the public & have larger apartments at Kensington Palace. Given that the only time I ever see them in the news is for dreadful outfits & holidays, to me they are embarrassing & a bit cringy.

Andrew is complaining that they are overshadowed by William, Catherine & Harry. But if you believe & support a system of privilege by birth such as the monarchy, then it stands to reason that the direct heirs are more important than the rest.

Does Andrew have a point & IABU?!

Fuck no I'ld rather have the windsors if we must have any official royal family at all than someone that the current public vote in via what they're told to do by Murdock!

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS PEOPLE!

JosephineMaynard · 01/11/2016 19:58

I don't think a nice deserving family would get voted in.

I think a family with money and influence to throw behind an election campaign would get in. Nice would be a happy, but by no means guaranteed, bonus.

YuckYuckEwwww · 01/11/2016 20:04

or Honey-fucking-G

we're not allowed nice things.. we can't be trusted with nice things..

chilipepper20 · 01/11/2016 20:07

Not in theory, but in practice, based on what the British public has voted into parliament... Can you imagine how much the vile Blair would love to be King Tony (until his crown was stolen by the evil and deeply unpopular King Gordon).

Blair is vile because he had to make real decisions as head of government. Any position with that kind of power will piss a huge chunk of the electorate off. That's the nature of it. You have to make decisions about budgets, education, health care, defence... people will be angry at somethings (and rightly so).

the queen... well, she do anything of consequence. So, unless she is supremely talented at pissing people off, she should be able quietly collect her outsized pay, while the british public don't notice, or even approve.

We get squat for the money we give them.

chilipepper20 · 01/11/2016 20:08

*she doesn't do anything

savedbythebell · 01/11/2016 20:23

Yes but just think if we'd never had a royal family and we had to vote one in, I'm sure as damn it we wouldn't be voting the bloody Windsors in. Nothing endearing about them at all. The voices alone would put me off.Grin

HairyToity · 01/11/2016 21:06

Would love a republic. Doubt I'll ever get a vote in my lifetime. Too many sycophants.

PetalMettle · 01/11/2016 21:52

Am I the only one imagining Nick clegg chained up now? Smile

QueenoftheAndals · 02/11/2016 05:01

Whatever turns you on Petal, whatever turns you on... Wink

VanillaSugarCandyCanes · 02/11/2016 06:57

Tell us more about your fantasy, Petal - is he chained to a bed or to a wall? Is he naked or wearing a pleather jumpsuit and a gimp mask? And where does Prince Andrew fit into all of this?

PetalMettle · 02/11/2016 07:19

Prince Andrew doesn't feature AT ALL thank you. I was picturing Nicky babes chained up in a corner in ripped clothing but now you've suggested it naked on a bed sounds good Smile

Temporaryname137 · 02/11/2016 09:05

Dear God petal, you heinous pervert! Picturing old Cleggover in a gimp suit is NOT a picturesque start to the day!

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 02/11/2016 10:13

Having watched the RF from afar (literally..am not in the UK) I have still not answered the question of what do they actually do? Apart from keep the trashy mags in stories I mean? That and Sue Townsend got a fantastic book out of them!

Temporaryname137 · 02/11/2016 10:25

Also I don't think Blair is vile just because he was PM. He is a disgusting power obsessed horrible human being. Makes me vomit!

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 02/11/2016 11:49

unicorn they go amongst us unveiling plaques that say upon them that they unveiled a plaque.

RatherSheepish · 02/11/2016 11:56

I was reading an article about the American actress Harry is apparently dating. She sounds intelligent and has done quite a lot of humanitarian work as well. If he married her then Kate, Beatrice and Eugenie would be given a run for their money! She's beautiful too, not that that should matter.

EverySongbirdSays · 02/11/2016 12:05

I really like her Sheepish, I like the program she's in, Suits, but the other day she tweeted out "I never wanted to be a lady who lunches, I want to be a woman who works"

She might shake things up. I think it's got to be true as she has not denied it which you would do.

Me and Prince Harry? HAHAHAAHAH,never met him, LOL.

Instead : dead silence.

RatherSheepish · 02/11/2016 12:28

I think she will absolutely knock Kate into a cocked hat if she marries Harry!

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 02/11/2016 12:35

Can you really imagine the Royal Family countenancing marriage to a mixed race woman and the possibility of mixed race Royal children? Especially given Prince Philip's outspoken views on race.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 02/11/2016 12:38

By outspoken I mean deeply prejudiced. Why I felt the need to use a euphemism to describe that bigoted git, I don't know.

EverySongbirdSays · 02/11/2016 13:21

I thought the same Dylan to be honest, I think she would find meeting Granpapa a deeply upsetting experience, where he probably wouldn't intend to give offence, would, and remain oblivious as to why.

Peregrina · 02/11/2016 13:22

In the normal course of events you might forgive the D of E, because he's 95 and maybe isn't as careful in what he says these days. But he was a racist bigot from the off, so you can't.

chilipepper20 · 02/11/2016 13:48

Also I don't think Blair is vile just because he was PM. He is a disgusting power obsessed horrible human being. Makes me vomit!

I don't want to be put in the position of defending Blair, but is he really more power obsessed than the RF? I think that's a hard case to make. Even so, that would make sense. The RF's wealth and position is pretty secure, whereas Blair has had to earn his position and (most) of his wealth. It wouldn't surprise me if he was more power obsessed given that.

Having watched the RF from afar (literally..am not in the UK) I have still not answered the question of what do they actually do?

you don't have to be afar to wonder that Smile. I don't know where you are from, but the Queen is head of state (and also head of the state church) and does some of the things that the heads of state in other countries do (meet other foreign officials etc). The trouble is that because she is a monarch and supposed to be "ceremonial" the office is toothless and lacks power. She has some role when a government can't be formed and other important (but rare) functions, but unlike countries with a real head of state, she is relatively powerless.

The trouble is she takes in a hefty pay cheque for it.

EverySongbirdSays · 02/11/2016 13:52

Being a racist bigot in the 40s, 50s, 60s 70s was pretty much everyone though.

His views are not uncommon for men of his generation.

SenecaFalls · 02/11/2016 14:02

Sadly, racist bigotry is not confined to any particular generation, but seems to be alive and well among younger people, too.
