The Duke of York wants his daughters to be full time Royals?

www.express.co.uk/news/royal/724136/prince-andrew-requests-princesses-beatrice-eugenie-kensington-prince-charles-queen-william

This is a Sunday Express link, not a Fail one.

So Andrew wants both of his daughters to have full time royal roles funded by the public & have larger apartments at Kensington Palace. Given that the only time I ever see them in the news is for dreadful outfits & holidays, to me they are embarrassing & a bit cringy.

Andrew is complaining that they are overshadowed by William, Catherine & Harry. But if you believe & support a system of privilege by birth such as the monarchy, then it stands to reason that the direct heirs are more important than the rest.

Does Andrew have a point & IABU?!

"His views are not uncommon for men of his generation."

But you'd think that he would have the sense not to air them in public.

EverySongbirdSays · 02/11/2016 14:15

It was more socially acceptable then, unfortunately the tide is turning again and the last 12 months have seen a real resurgence.

I'm sure there was a comment in the Daily Mail not too long ago :

"What's wrong with being a racist anyway?"

You'd nearly want to laugh, if it didn't make you want to cry.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 02/11/2016 15:11

because he's 95 and maybe isn't as careful in what he says these days. But he was a racist bigot from the off, so you can't.

He is a bully as well. He knows that people aren't in a position to object to his comments or respond in the same ilk. I would love to see what happened if someone said 'actually that isn't funny, it is bigoted, rude and really not on' or if someone responded with 'fuck off to your Kebab shop Zorba' after one of his hilarious quips about their origins.

Prince Philips always gets excused his racist ignorant remarks because of his age. Unless he's senile (which he isn't) there is no excuse. He knows what he's saying but because of his exalted position knows he can get away with it. The queens probably equally racist but wisely keeps it all to herself.

Harry loves clever independent women. Trouble is, that means they all have the good sense not to marry him. He'll have to marry some vacant socialite out of desperation and shag actresses on the side!

PuppetInParadize · 02/11/2016 15:51

The auld Greek was making racist remarks long before he was 95. 3 decades ago he was relatively young - and making racist comments.

WindPowerRanger · 02/11/2016 15:51

"Being a racist bigot in the 40s, 50s, 60s 70s was pretty much everyone though."

Complete bollocks this. Always gets trotted out. It was more common, certainly, but not universal.

SpunkyMummy · 02/11/2016 16:11

Having some public royal figures isn't too bad, ther are advantages.

Although I don't understand why anybody would want to be one of the more prominent royals. There's so much media attention....

Eugenia seems like a nice young lady. And I do like Harry, he is entertaining and seems like a nice young man. Poor him...

EverySongbirdSays · 02/11/2016 16:32

Dylan you make me laugh so much with your turns of phrase

EverySongbirdSays · 02/11/2016 16:35

Maybe WindPower I must confess I'm not old enough to be sure of that remark, I'm going off my grandparents who would be over 100 now if living. All of them terrible racists.

My Nana used to say DREADFUL things about the Japanese but, that was the War, and what went on in the POW camps.

VanillaSugarCandyCanes · 02/11/2016 16:47

Did anyone watch "I wanna marry Harry" with the Harry lookalike? It's The Bachelor all over again. Life imitates art...

BillSykesDog · 02/11/2016 17:13

My dream is to be locked in a small room with Prince Harry and a tub of Stork margarine for 24 hours.

MitzyLeFrouf · 02/11/2016 17:15

So you can time each other making sandwiches?

BillSykesDog · 02/11/2016 17:17

Yeah man. Cucumber. No crust.

EverySongbirdSays · 02/11/2016 17:22

Why Stork? Grin

motherinferior · 02/11/2016 17:23

Being a racist bigot in the 40s, 50s, 60s 70s was pretty much everyone though."

The Anti-Nazi League would disagree with you. Yes, many people were racist bigots but plenty were not.

BillSykesDog · 02/11/2016 17:23

Coz I'm too tight to buy Flora and I don't care about cholesterol.

QueenoftheAndals · 02/11/2016 18:25

I'm guessing you won't be chopping the cucumber...

raisedbyguineapigs · 02/11/2016 19:24

Honestly, I leave this thread for a few hours and people are making cucumber sandwiches with Stork ?? Don't venture on any baking threads with your radical uses for cooking margarine...

VanillaSugarCandyCanes · 02/11/2016 19:29

Butter. It has to be butter. Or, nutella. No tells cucumber sandwiches are a real thing, apparently.

BillSykesDog · 02/11/2016 19:48

Ew. Nutella and ginger do not taste right together.

VanillaSugarCandyCanes · 02/11/2016 20:49

Nutella and Marmite. You can thank me later.

jellybeans · 02/11/2016 21:17

Get rid of the monarchy. Phase them out or privatise them.

BillSykesDog · 02/11/2016 21:23

Nutella and marmite? They'd make nice names for mine and Harry's twins. Princess Nutella and Prince Marmite.

VanillaSugarCandyCanes · 02/11/2016 21:30

Nah, Prince Tassimo and Princess Viennetta. Much more clarsy innit?
