AIBU to think that if you commit an adult crime you shouldn't receive anonymity

After hearing that both of the children involved in the murder of a mother and daughter have been found guilty I think that they if they were adult enough murder someone, and then go and watch films and have sex after that they should be old enough to be named after.

Their crimes were particularly nasty, and as such they should live with the consequences for the rest of their lives. They certainly shouldn't be able to do a few years and then get out with anonymity and start their lives as if nothing ever happened.

FFS a thread has already been taken down because a poster was stupid enough to link identifying information.
Please please think of the family of the victims who do not need this.

Anonymity is there for a reason in this case. If you post identifying information you break the law.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 18/10/2016 16:38

The other thread on this got pulled and rightly so.

The ruling of anonymity is there for a reason.

sandyholme · 18/10/2016 16:41

I have just had the same posting taken off air !

gettingitwrongputtingitright · 18/10/2016 16:41

Ive just googled. Very easy to find out who they are.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 18/10/2016 16:43

Have reported - find this whole thread very distasteful and disrespectful.

Alfieisnoisy · 18/10/2016 16:47

Cases involving children are very complex at the best of times...and none more so than when they commit murder. Anonymity has to be used in many cases to protect all involved. ...not just the perpetrators.

GeorgeTheThird · 18/10/2016 16:52

I understand what you are saying Op but your point doesn't enable anyone to draft a law. If there is such a thing as an adult crime, what on earth is a child crime? Which crimes should mean no anonymity? All of them? How would that help?

Hillfarmer · 18/10/2016 16:53

My thoughts exactly George. Just what is an adult crime? Can you explain OP?

I don't understand why you need names either.

twattymctwatterson · 18/10/2016 16:57

It really depends on whether we believe in rehabilitation I suppose. Whether as a compassionate society we believe that children who commit crimes are less culpable and more vulnerable than adults who commit crimes.

PansyGiraffe · 18/10/2016 17:04

I think that they if they were adult enough murder someone, and then go and watch films and have sex after that they should be old enough to be named after

I have no idea what's "adult" about that. I'm going to be charitable and start with "too immature to understand the consequences of their actions".

Exactly this, from 'Inyournightdress* -

It is not in the publics interest to know the names of these children. The faux outrage is like some kind of murder porn. It is as if people want a medal for how disgusted they feel because then they can prove they are so far detached from these murderers and that what happened is so alien to themselves

JenLindleyShitMom · 18/10/2016 17:09

What do you need to know their names for? Do you need to talk to them? Confused

Ohbehave1 · 18/10/2016 17:11

Earshitandleaves.

You find it distasteful. Is this the new "I am offended". You have reported the thread? I hope you clutched your pearls tightly as you did so.

I never asked for them to be identified just said that I thought they should not be anonymous

I personally don't think they should be anonymous, or at least have the anonymity lifted at 18. What is so contentious

OP posts:
motherinferior · 18/10/2016 17:12

My only reason for wanting to know who they are is purely nosy ghoulishness. That is my failing, not the failing of the justice system. What justice is served by my knowing? Or yours?

And what FlyingElbows said.

EmzDisco · 18/10/2016 17:13

What a weird way to view things, "adult enough to murder someone" as per PP, since when was commuting a murder a sign of someone's maturity?

potentialqualms · 18/10/2016 17:14

I don't know why they've been granted anonymity but I don't see what anyone gains by their names being made public. Why does it matter to you Op?

Sallystyle · 18/10/2016 17:15

Explain why you feel you should know their names?

What good does that do you?

Northernlurker · 18/10/2016 17:17

I see no purpose in anonymity in this case. Local knowledge is extensive, the anonymity no longer exists in a meaningful sense and it was a very disturbing and brutal crime.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 18/10/2016 17:19

no need to know the names....theres a very good reason not to,but tbh,i fail to see this one remaining anon due to circs

bibbitybobbityyhat · 18/10/2016 17:19

I'm sort of surprised that there are still people who don't know who they are tbh. Not as in a named names sort of way. I figured it out a long time ago and I don't think any ruling on anonymity is going to work.

DrudgeJedd · 18/10/2016 17:21

Meh, I bet the OP knows who they are and why they're anonymous which is why they've namedchanged to post this nasty thread.

NickiFury · 18/10/2016 17:21

It was obvious almost from the outset who they were. I googled to confirm it. I do get a bit tired of the virtue signalling on MN regarding very natural interest in cases such as this, people shouldn't be shamed for wanting a clearer picture of a shocking event. Yes sometimes these threads do tip over onto ghoulishness but this one isn't like that and the threads that do go that way will get pulled generally when they deteriorate.

potentialqualms · 18/10/2016 17:25

I don't feel any need at all to know their names but I am (now, after reading this thread!) interested to know why they did it

Sallystyle · 18/10/2016 17:25

I'm surprised people can work out who they are.
